Toys R Us Canada: The Goblin King Battle 50% OFF

The Goblin King Battle

This weeks Toys R Us Flyer has The Goblin King Battle (79010) marked down a shocking 50%.

The sale lasts from October 4th through October 10th. But as we know first come, first served...

At that price I cannot see them lasting long.

Make sure to take advantage of the Bricktober freebies as well.

The City Mining Truck (4202) is also marked down 40% for those City fans out there.

I. Am. So. Tempted. Damn you sales.

How much is that big stupid goblin going for on ebay... it's still a $65 parts park with a few figures. And they're all loser dwarves anyway. And I have no money.

But, you know. 50% off!!

EDIT: going for nothing much on ebay. This is why it's discounted - nobody wants it, it's going for way under MSRP on ebay.

By in United States,

This set has been in the clearance section at my local Walmarts for months...

Toys R Us in the U.S. has it well above retail for $114.99. As horrible as this sounds, I would like nothing more than for Santa to bring cancer to those greasy little weasels in the TRU corporate office.

@CatsDontLikeWearingHats

That wouldn't really be necessary, their choice to sell above retail just means I shop somewhere else.

By in Australia,

This set has been 50% off here in Australian Target stores quite a long time ago..... We also had the Dino plane set, and some City sets all for 1/2 price at Toys R Us.

I already reserved my copy. The free turkey thing was stupid, but a freebie is a freebie. The City Mining Truck is about 40% off listed in the flyer as $29.87, but with only one minifigure and only 269 parts, it doesn't feel like a good deal. I'm not even tempted to buy both sets so I can qualify for the Minifigure Collection, because they're five trashy minifigures which I won't bother selling on Ebay to refund $10 back on my purchase.

In the United States the Goblin King Battle set sells for $100US, while in Canada it's 30% more at $130. At 50% off, $65 Canadian isn't something to laugh at considering these types of sales have become quite rare from Toys"R"us. While I agree it's not the most atractive looking set, low resale prices are reflecting the fact that this has gone on sale in the United States and it's still in production. I suspect once this set has been retired for a year or more, it will be going for around it's $100 retail point in the States. Some brand/theme purchases just can't go wrong, because Lego collectors will always want Starwars/Hobbit/LordOfTheRings/HarryPotter stuff.

I nabbed this set for just $20 at my local Walmart. They'd marked down a select few sets with clearance stickers, and I couldn't pass it up. That being said, I ended up re-selling it on eBay and barely doubled my money after shipping. Hardly worth the effort of shipping such a large set, but we don't own any other LOTR/Hobbit sets and don't need an excuse to start collecting that line. I think we (me and my two sons) will just stick with the Star Wars line.
