Comments being deleted

Posted by ,

We have received many e-mails about comments being deleted from a certain news article. Due to an outbreak of members abusing the comments facility on the news article in question, I have been forced to delete many comments from said article. The reason some newer comments have been deleted is because they relate to the deleted comments. Please do not continually put comments up asking why previous ones have been deleted. I hope this clears up the matter for everyone, and thank you for your co-operation.

OK... i see all of David1985's comments on one topic have been deleted.
You've probably just answered it somewhere, Huw, but what are you're views on none topic threads? That would turn brickset into a chat room.

By in Australia,

Is it time for Brickset to add a forum? I know there are plenty of Lego forums out there, but Brickset has a lot of fans. It might take a lot of effort to moderate, though, unless the forum has big signs saying, "Warning: These are people's opinions. Rude words may appear ahead of you. Do not use these forums if your feelings could be hurt."

By in Australia,

That's what I would be afraid of. Judging by a lot of the reviews, this is a website enjoyed by a lot of younger Lego fans. So, I don't trust the more excitable users to moderate themselves and I don't think anyone in Brickset's executive levels has the time to moderate... Oh well, it was a nice dream while it lasted. Back to the real world.

I'd think that people would still put "bad" messages in the comments section.. I don't really think it would change anything.

By in Brunei Darussalam,

Yes, I'd love a forum as well.

This may sound dumb, but this is not a forum? I mean we are "talking" to each other. But, yea, it would be pretty cool if brickset had forums. :)

Please if we have a forum, lets have some "older" mods, hopefully 15 and up. I don't want to feel even younger and less mature to hear people cussing each other out over the internet over something a silly as Lego's, that very low.

Forum? Would like one ^_^

By in Canada,

That is a good idea for Brickset to have a forum as for moderation what if you could post anything you want, but there would be a report button. So say your reading through the forum and somebody swears. You would click the report button and that comment would then be sent to a mod who could look it over and decide on what to do to that person such as suspend them or if it happens often ban them.
Also if there is a forum I hope that we can post pictures of our Lego creations so others can see them and comment on them. Again if theres an inappropiate picture you would click the report button.

By in Canada,

This isn't supposed to be a forum. The intention is for discussion of the related news article, perhaps to add more information to it, but unfortunately the conversation always get hijacked and recently has descended into petty argument. Some of you will recall that I disabled commenting for a while because I got fed up with this. I hope I don't have to do it again.

If you want general forums, please go to one of the many that are there already: Eurobricks or Lugnet.

By in New Zealand,

After deleting more than 100 off-topic and inappropriate comments, I shall be recommending to my fellow moderators that some posters should have their accounts deleted immediately, and that the comments facility be suspended indefinitely.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have disabled the accounts of

Fighter95
Dwarf Vader
Technic Thomas
Jerryreaper008
Redfox
David1985
Christain_Ultraconservative_Rightous......

I have also deleted every comment they ever made. I don't want to suspend commenting but if I see any abuse this week, I will.

Did you delete Leggodt's account aswell? His profile is blank!

By in United Kingdom,

Why do a few always try to upset everything for all. Huw and guys, you do a great job with this site, this is made alot harder having to sort out a minority who visit this site.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Losts his mind again, didn't he. Sorry Huw and Grahame for all of my off topic posts. I'll try not to make anymore.

100% Honesty time

1) Because apologies mean absolutely nothing unless they are backed up by actions. People will take an apology to mean something when the behavior you are apologizing for ceases. The best way to do that in this instance is to sit back, read the news articles, and add comments that give further value to the information or ask questions that other people may also be interested in the answers to.

2)Nobody DOES care. The only opinions people really care about on the Internet are their own. You are irrelevant. Just like I fully expect nobody but me to pay any attention to this very post. It is what it is.

By in United States,

jon11380, you got it spot on. We run this site for fun. We don't want to be constantly lookinng for juvenile behaviour by the minority who spoil it for everyone else.

I'm sorry we had to take the action of disabling accounts, it was a last resort but maybe it will make others think before they post.

By in United States,

I agree with you, Huw. When I first joined this website and learned that accounts COULD be suspended, I didn't really think much of that; but now, I see. It's like I always say(to myself), you don't really learn anything until you've experienced it. I'm glad that I don't have to go through that. Thank you, Huw, for that and you do a wonderful job running this site. Please, don't think otherwise. :)

And to legoguysw, two things:

1)I turned my profile blank(please don't ask why)

2)I'm sorry that I ever argued with you, I want to take all of it back and I plan not to argue with you ever again.(hold me to that, please) :)

By in Canada,

well, why dont they just have a swear blocker on the forum. then no one would be able to saya anything meen and it would hardly need monitering. brickset whould type in the words, phraes or anything they dont want a user to say, and it would show up as *'s if it was said, and then they would get in some trouble. i dont see why not, other web sights have done it, please consider this.

By in United States,

Ok um...why are all my comments being deleted??? My account is back now and I should be able to freely post comments. If this one is deleted, then I do not trust this site anymore and Im leaving.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yeah, I posted one that was kinda on topic. I think that they might be getting a little trigger happy with deleting comments. This one will probably get deleted too... no offense to the site, and they have good reason too.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oh, i see Leggodt. I was worried you got banned for an arguement you tried to stop! All apologies accepted. I dont think you should of apologised, really! You didnt do much offensive stuff, really.
And Huw, you are a doing a great running of this site. Same goes to the others who run it, i just dont know who you are.
Fighter95, your comments were deleted to stop the arguemeent spreading.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Thanks, legoguysw! :)

By in United States,

Good job, admin guys!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sorry for second post, but I could'nt access Brickset for a few days. On every page, it came up with an error message. Does anyone know what is happening?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

It seems that the folks who run this site put a lot of effort into checking, sorting and where necessary rejecting posts and comments. And this was just in a week where few members had lost some comments (for whatever reason) or threw around the idea of a forum.
I suggested that a forum might be a good idea, and I think we have seen why I was wrong! Being that this is the internet, a few spoilers - malicious or just ignorant - can have a big effect on what is supposed to be a fun website for everyone from the serious adult collector to the very keen nine year old kid.
Sifting people's comments like they had to this week was probably taking the moderators' attention from doing what they do best, and what we want right now: posting reliable pics and news about Lego!
Thanks everyone, keep up the good work and keep it simple - because it works!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Thanks for your support, guys. The problem seems to have subsided, for now anyway!

Gravatar
By in United States,

They sure have. Fighter95 seems calmer, now that the problem causers have left, brickset is awesome again.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Let's just forget this whole thing ever happened. I want Brickset back.

Gravatar
By in United States,

At this point, I'm up for anything! It's good to have you back fighter! :D (you are back for good, right fighter?)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sorry about that...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Im not sure yet Leggodt. Probably.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, your commenting, are you not? Sorry, I'm just trying to stay positive. :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yeah...I think I'm back for good. :D This whole thing is overwith now and Brickset is back the way it should be. (except for a few members who aren't coming back.)

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,
