Advent day 3

Posted by ,

As you'll have noticed, CapnRex101 will be reviewing the Star Wars Advent models from now on. He knows what he's talking about when it comes to Star Wars so you won't have to put up with any more misspelled names and glib comments from me :-)

Today, I've chosen to feature the City model, which is this cute doggy, sporting a Dalmatian's spots but an Alsatian's head and ears. There does appear to be similar cross breeds around so maybe he is realistic. He only appears in the calendar and this year's fire station, so I suspect not many of us have him already.

The Friends calendar features a street lamp which is similar to that in last year's.

He's a great addition to my modular building pet shop, and that fire place from yesterday can go in the grand emporium as a showroom piece.

Hmm, I should try and find a Dalmatian, or just get the City Advent Calendar once it goes to 50% off after the holidays …

I'll miss your glib comments, but I appreciate how soul-destroying it can be to write about things you're not excited by! Best your energies go into the new site :O)

I want one of those dalmatians. I'll be looking for a calendar during after Xmas sales.

Sold out - this year's Advent Calendar at shop.lego.com. Good luck guys getting the calendar after Christmas. Might be hard to find let alone a bargain (excluding eBay - ridiculously overpriced) ... HO HO HO

It was this dog that pushed me over the edge into buying this year's City Advent Calendar. But then I saw that it had sold out, so I've decided to open my Friends Calendar again (and try to take something approaching reasonable photos with my iPhone and no filters each day - http://www.flickr.com/photos/thevoicewithin/sets/72157638292283566/).

By in Canada,

The dog was meant to be a Dalmatian. (The piece does come in the 2013 Fire Station set (60004), and Dalmatians can often be found in real life fire stations as well.) My daughter (who loves dogs) also pointed out that real Dalmatians have "drop" ears, not "erect" ones. But I guess LEGO wanted to reuse the same mold. This piece was also one of the reasons I finally gave in and bought this calendar.

Aww, I'm gonna miss the misspellings and glib comments. I'll take any excuse to make fun of and troll the horrible, horrible prequel trilogy.

Just opened Day 4 for City and SW. (yay after midnight here). It more and more becomes clear. City is GREAT! Cool figs. Neat little useful builds that can be added to other sets and MOC's. Whereas SW... Ummm, at least the handful of little pieces is kinda neat and may be useful elsewhere. I'm not sure what the 4th item is supposed to be? It looks vaguely familiar? It also kinda looks like a recolor of the Bongo from last year. So I'm confused?

In terms of Advent Calendar Value, CITY > Star Wars (Or am I missing something?)

I agree, Huw, the dog is great!

And, I think that the dog is supposed to go with the fire lady that comes sometime later in the calander. (And don't say that that was a spoiler; the fire lady is shown on the box!)

Yep, I've always looked at the parts in each of the calendars and this year, the City one looks streets ahead (hoho - or should that be hohoho) of the others.

You can buy individual spotty-dogs via LEGO customer services, though they're over £1 each, plus £2 shipping for spare / replacement parts. I wonder how many orders they get for 101 at a time?

Friends last year resorted to showing things on the box that weren't in it (a horse and cart) and the year before, multiples of items that you only get once (skis, and an extra mini-doll, when one was actually just a spare hairpiece). And the mark-up on the Star Wars one should get you something better and it doesn't.

P.S. Today's might not be the most convincing figure, but it's an absolute treat for spare bits. I got three red neckers in mine.
