Advent Day 12 - Star Wars

Posted by ,

CapnRex is still away so guest reviewer rancorbait has provided this text:

Today we have another mini model, a LAAT/c (Low Altitude Assault Transport/carrier), or more simply, Republic Dropship. This vehicle, used by the Republic to transport heavy artillery and other cargo, is only seen for a few brief moments towards the end of Episode II: Attack of the Clones and in several Clone Wars episodes.

This somewhat obscure, but still easily recognizable ship, is quite accurately captured using just eleven parts, although I think it could do with one more white 1 x 3 slope to fill the gap between the two engines, but it's not a big deal. The rear half of the dropship is constructed in a way similar to the Republic gunship from day eight, with the exception of the suitably long wings which are also narrower. The cockpit, which is situated on the front of the craft, is effectively recreated using a trans-black 1 x 1 slope piece.

Perhaps the best part about this model however, is that the AT-TE revealed yesterday can be attached to the underside of the vehicle without altering either of the models, just like in the film, which really adds to the accuracy of the vehicle.

Overall - 4.5 - This accurate representation of the ship is an excellent model, and when combined with yesterday's AT-TE, is even better. The only thing I dislike is the rather bland looking front end, some color (either dark blue or dark red) would add a lot of character to the vehicle in my opinion.

a case of being greater than the sum of the parts here. I love the way they go together.

And hence the inclusion of yesterday's out of place stud on top of the AT-TE from yesterday - I smiled when I realised this is what it was for!

I would love it if they had included stickers for thd side of the 1x2 inverted slope, but it's still very nice!

I think I would probably leave the grey stud on the bottom of the dropship than the top of the walker. Otherwise, excellent combo. Very cute. ;)

By in United Kingdom,

Wow - I've never got one of the Advent Calenders as they are quite pricey and the previews don't seem to quite excite me enough to get one (even though I would be keen with better offerings) - that said, this is wonderful, I wish I had got the Star Wars one for this alone, for some reason I didn't see this combo or see it coming...! How cute...!

By in Ireland,

It must be just me but it looks more like a dog than a space ship!
