Sorry, but spending $100 on just city to get what looks like an average city set is not for me.

well the double VIP points are nice I am not sure how I feel about this gift with purchase

Oh look pick a brick (standard) is excluded from this too. And from the LotR brickheads promotion. Really starting to look like its not coming back, thus ensuring there was not even a single benefit to the customer from the savage murdering of the far superior old Bricks and Pieces

Literally not just City, any LEGO purchase.

I'm so sick of Lego pushing teal anywhere and everywhere they can.

YES - we get it. Teal is back. It's been back like what, 5 years now? Give it a rest and give the ambulance NORMAL ambulance colors. Red and white.

Having done several orders myself, the new Pick a Brick actually grew on me. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's better.

Just my personal opinion, but one reason I say that is because having been familiar with Bricks and Pieces, I actually noticed price decreases on a lot of parts (at least here in the US) once they switched. For example, red pieces are no longer twice as expensive as other colors.

By in United Kingdom,

This GWP really doesn’t appeal so I’ll save my large purchases for a later double points event. Hopefully the May event will include all Star Wars sets this year, not a small selection like last year. So June or July should be the next site-wide event.

Exactly, and I'm even all for having teal hidden inside models if you don't see it, but they've gone overkill. Same with the new vibrant yellow. I miss the normal looking emergency vehicles.

By in Australia,

I see nothing that specifically says that B&P elements don't count towards the ambulance GWP and if I add a large enough quantity of standard B&P elements to the cart (with nothing else in it), the cart clearly says "you have qualified for the GWP"
.
Its possible there might be fine print excluding B&P from the offer but in Australia at least, it would likely be a violation of consumer law to claim on the order page that "you have qualified for x" and then not actually deliver it.

I actually think the new B&P is good and has resulted in an increase in the money I have spend buying parts from LEGO.

By in Netherlands,

I'm ordering the CNY parade and the money tree today, guess I'll be getting this set by accident. Would never hit the minimum purchase of this on purpose though, it looks like a design that didn't get into retail because they already had too many City sets.

Maybe they're red and white in the U.S. but they aren't those colours in other countries. So those are not normal colours everywhere. The vibrant yellow is one of the main colours of ambulances in a large number of countries. Also, I like teal and think it suits this set.

Wow, nice example of being stuck inside your bubble.
You do realise there is a world beyond what you see outside your window, right?

In many countries today the colours that are used in these recent sets are the norm.
I haven't seen a white and red ambulance in more than a decade (exempt in a museum).
Vibrant yellow is standard, complemented with other colours like blue, red and a very teal looking greenish colour. In my region the teal-vibrant yellow combination is very common; including the outfits for the paramedics that have vibrant yellow jackets and teal pants.

It really helps with improving visibility and reducing accidents.

Quote from a post last year by Brickset regarding the changes to Bricks & Pieces

“This new experience means all parts orders, including those previously made in Bricks and Pieces can be applied to promotions (such as gifts with purchase) on Lego.com”

So you should get the GWP if you meet the threshold.

Jeez, no need to get that defensive, I don't think it's being stuck inside a bubble to not know all the variations of ambulance colors for every country, that's quite a niche subject matter.

And yes, I did consider that, I just assumed that this specific color combination was fictional, since I've only seen neon yellow and white variations on the off chance that I'd see an ambulance from another region; I've just never seen any with teal or green.

Notice I didn’t say anything about vibrant yellow. My comment was more about the overusage of teal than the “realism” of the colors

By in United States,

Adding on, if we’re insisting on ‘realism’ in this thread, then isn’t it really counter intuitive to use a natural green hue on an off-road emergency vehicle? Vibrant yellow makes sense, but another color that would blend in with the scenery doesn’t.

Gravatar

Yesss, I can finally buy that new Jay mech without feeling like I should've just gotten it off Bricklink (seriously, the amount of V.I.P point you get normally per dollar is sad).

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Googled 'off-road ambulance' just out of interest, and the second image that comes up is an ambulance on a US air force base in pretty much these colours.

https://www.cannon.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/1574822/custom-off-road-bulldog-ambulances-at-mafr/

These are also fairly standard colours for ambulances in the UK (and some off-road/mountain rescue variants).

It is however always a bit of a shame when a nice standard set like (rather than some promo item/novelty) this is behind a paywall.

I had a couple of sets in mind but before buying it's always worth doing a search for "double VIP" on Brickset ( https://brickset.com/news?query=double%20vip ). There's always double points in the run-up to Easter and Christmas and last year in February, June, July and October too.

And they have started flagging it a few days beforehand on lego.com

"normal" red and white ambulance colors are different in other countries, current wave of City really seems inspired by European color schemes where neon ambulances are common, and darkgreen/teal and neon is a UK thing.

Police color scheme is similar to the latest Germany Police colors, and Fire can be compared to something like the Danish Arhus fire deparment, including those water cannons.

Even within the US, there's differences, like black and white police cars in some states like California, and white/blue in New York.

In America the sheer variety of emergency vehicle colors will make one’s head spin. I live near the border of several different cities and each one’s cop car is a different color scheme.

And the ambulances around here differ depending on which company owns them - around here alone I’ve seen red and white, white and blue, yellow and blue, high-visibility yellow/green, blue and orange, and all red.

Insisting on a very narrow color scheme for emergency vehicles is only “realistic” if we’re assuming LEGO City is perpetually set in 1955.

Notice I didn't address your statement about the overuse of teal, because that is an opinion. You have every right to feel this way.
Next to that you did bring up the point of realism yourself by referring to a red and white colour scheme as normal; you even wrote the word normal in all caps.
I was just pointing out that what is normal to you, isn’t ‘normal’ to everyone.

@Clutch_P :
Yes, I may have overreacted a bit and might have been more diplomatic, like other posters have, but I was a bit rattled up by yet another bigot discussion (in another thread, to be clear) and I’m frankly fed up with people referring to their own specific situation as normal.
These kinds of assumptions lead to intolerance.

I've not noticed a major reduction in price - still very expensive but it is certainly much easier to use. You can filter out Duplo/Technic/System but more importantly, you can search by colours (been asking for that for years) this alone speed up the process tremendously. The selection is not as good though: about a month before the merge, you could find every single animal on bricks n' pieces (squirrels, cats, horses, sheep, cow, calf, lamb, pig, birds, etc) now you get an 'ok' selection which change quite a bit from month to month. Overall I'm happy with it - the only downside in Canada is the length of service (or not service) - for the non-best sellers, it takes about 6-8 weeks to get the parts. The other problem is part numbers, you need Bricklink open on another tab to select part by number, Bricklink will give you all the numbers a part has had in its history - the Lego shop will only recognize one number and if this number has changed, the system will tell you that the part is not available when in fact it is but under a different number.

I agree with you the official calendars would make buying decisions more helpful, but despite their absence quite a few sources posted news this 2X VIP wave was coming. Just a few days ago Brickset made a "headsup" post about it.

Also, as I've said before, the Lego youtube influencers make videos on these events all the time and they are in the KNOW (99% of their rumor info proves correct). So you need to adapt your information sources.

- 20% off Monkie Kid's Galactic Explorer starship, which is now $103.99. That's actually a solid deal and the set has a lot going for it. The discount makes sense because the set is about to retire. "

Maybe the USA and Australia are different but Pick a Brick Standard absolutely qualifies here. I added $100 of such pieces to my cart and the Ambulance was added and it had double points. The fine print often says it's not eligible but it has always worked for me.

My most recent order was placed in November and arrived about a week ago. 2.5 months from order to delivery. On top of the new 3-month minimum (usually much longer) for new parts to even become available to buy. The only reason I ever used the service was to get newly released parts in a more timely fashion, but at this point its likely often going to be quicker to just make international bricklink orders, and probably cheaper too.

Interesting to see the great variation of colour schemes around the world.
In Germany, ambulances usually have a base colour of white, with generous areas of vibrant orange throughout. Often some vibrant yellow highlights are added as well, and once I have even seen one where the base colour was yellow instead of white.
Never have I seen a teal coloured emergency vehicle though, or any vehicle come to think of it. For decades now the vast majority of vehicles over here tend to have rather boring colours, like black, white, silver or grey.
It's not like the Seventies and Eighties anymore, where lots of vehicles came in all colours of the rainbow.

Overall I'm happy with it - the only downside in Canada is the length of service (or not service) - for the non-best sellers, it takes about 6-8 weeks to get the parts. The other problem is part numbers, you need Bricklink open on another tab to select part by number, Bricklink will give you all the numbers a part has had in its history - the Lego shop will only recognize one number and if this number has changed, the system will tell you that the part is not available when in fact it is but under a different number."

Yes! I noticed those things too. Although here in the US, I was finally able to order a couple squirrels, kittens, and sheep, but I'm not sure if they're back in stock elsewhere.

But yeah, it changes every month, and WOW, I thought it was bad here, standard orders for me consistently take 5 weeks, but never more than that. It's a shame because I would place more orders if they didn't take so long."

My most recent order was placed in November and arrived about a week ago. 2.5 months from order to delivery. On top of the new 3-month minimum (usually much longer) for new parts to even become available to buy. The only reason I ever used the service was to get newly released parts in a more timely fashion, but at this point its likely often going to be quicker to just make international bricklink orders, and probably cheaper too."

That's ridiculous, nobody should have to wait that long. They need to change something in the shipping process because that has to be so inefficient

- 20% off Monkie Kid's Galactic Explorer starship, which is now $103.99. That's actually a solid deal and the set has a lot going for it. The discount makes sense because the set is about to retire. "

Absolutely, totally agree! I picked-up the same 80035 for 20%. That’s about 8.3c pp for some nice sized pieces. Plus, I love lego spaceships! And I had to pick-up my World of Wonders 40585. Not to shabby.

Happy building!

"Sorry, but spending $100 on just city to get what looks like an average city set is not for me."

It's not just for City sets, that's wrong information. It was even applicable to "pick a brick" but added itself to cart also with castle etc. when I tried.
