Advent day 20

Posted by ,

The window on Wednesday contained a boy with a remote control. Yesterday we had a couple of mini-aircraft for him to control, and today, we have this rather good fire boat, made from just 10 pieces, for him to play with.

Mind you, when I first built it I couldn't work out what it was: if you stand it on its end, it sort of looks like Santa with a long, bent, nose, holding out a present with a blue light on it! Or maybe that's just me...

The other day, Dan Veesenmeyer contacted me to say he was enjoying our Advent countdown, and that he's an artist who does work for LEGO. Turns out he worked on images for this year's Advent calendar sets, which are very cool.

I'm sure in the set photo that has them all lined up it's upright. I couldn't work out what on earth it was, though I didn't look too hard as I do like finding out what's what in the countdown.

I thought it was a sled at 1st, then a boat, then a fire boat lol.

Best City mini model so far IMO. Only 4 more days left :D

I put it in the water on the set, as a small submarine... But fireboat, fine with that ;)

I first thought it was a post for a fire station, with an alarm or something, and a helmet holder.

So according to that drawing, the contraption that came with the race car driver, is not the car's engine. I think it looks better as an engine, but ok.

Fire boat?

It looks nothing like a boat. I must saying I'm rather disappointed with my City calendar this year.

It's hard to tell that it's a fire boat. I thought originally that it was an alarm box of sorts.

I love these toy vehicles in the City and Star Wars advent calendars! I could recognize what this was in an instant, but that might be helped by the impeccable staging of your photos.

Overall, the City Advent Calendar has been a big disappointment for my family. We have only been doing them for 9 or 10 years, so we might not have full appreciation of how they work. Or, perhaps the kids are getting too old, but it seems more than that. Extraneous models with no context; seemingly as many or more extra pieces than model pieces for each day; lack of a comprehensive story line or over-arching theme; and pedestrian design. That was until today. This model is brilliant. Great job!

Huw, why didn't you do The 21st's advent calendar day, it was a really cool train and I definitely think worth mentioning. You shouldn't have even done this done this countdown if you weren't going to show every day's. I'm very disappointed.
