Advent Day 24 - Star Wars

Posted by ,

So here we are at last on the final day of this year's LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar. It should come as no surprise that today's gift is, as ever, a Christmas version of one of our favourite characters. This year that character is Jango Fett, and while he might not have all the charm of Yoda, or the irony of Darth Maul as Santa Claus, he nevertheless makes for a lovely Minifigure.

Only Jango's torso is new, with some festive printing over his usual Mandalorian attire on the front and back, including a white fur lining, red armour (with a little bit of battle damage), a sprig of holly and best of all, some tiny presents on his belt! I have a soft spot for these festive Minifigures and although Jango Fett does not work quite as well as Santa for me as other figures have, he still maintains a certain appeal in my opinion. Probably the element I was most concerned about was the mixture of the standard blue helmet and the red outfit, but in the flesh it actually looks perfectly fine to me, although a red helmet would have been preferable.

Jango comes equipped with a satchel filled with lime green and orange 1x2 tiles as presents, and his face has the standard smirk, stubble and scarring which was introduced in 8097 Slave I. This Minifigure will go nicely with his companion Boba from day 22, and he can stand on the sled which appeared yesterday if you lean his torso forward a little. Of course, one could also swap the jetpack from yesterday with today's backpack, and so equip Jango with that. Useful for ascending and descending chimneys I suppose...

Overall - 5 - There are one or two minor issues, so a perfect score seems illogical, but I love these festive Minifigures and it seems unfair to give them anything less than full marks!

Given that no Advent Calendar countdown is complete without some scoring statistics, you can take a look at them by clicking below...

Scoring Statistics

For the purposes of this, I am going to award the R5-F7 Minifigure from the first day with a 4 as my reviews did not start until day 2. So, here are the average scores for the 2013 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar:

Minifigures: (4 + 3.5 + 4 + 4 + 3.5 + 4.5 + 4.5 + 5 + 5) ÷ 7 = 4.2

Mini Models: (4 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 4.5 + 2.5 + 3.5 + 4.5 + 3.5 + 1.5 + 4 + 4 + 3.5 + 5 + 4.5) ÷ 15 = 3.6

Overall: (4 + 4 + 3.5 + 4 + 3 + 4 + 2 + 4.5 + 2.5 + 4 + 3.5 + 4.5 + 3.5 + 3.5 + 4.5 + 1.5 + 4 + 4.5 + 4 + 3.5 + 5 + 5 + 4.5 + 5) ÷ 24 = 3.8

I think that 3.8 is a fair score overall. There are several excellent mini models and the Minifigure selection was particularly good, but there have been a few disappointing days, particularly with the two weapons racks and the more obscure vehicles.

So it is just left for me to say thank you, firstly to Huw for his excellent photographs which have accompanied the reviews daily, and also to rancorbait who kindly stepped in for me on the 12th and 13th of December.

Lastly, a big thanks to you for reading each day, and a Merry Christmas. Hopefully we will all be fully furnished with more LEGO by this time tomorrow!

By in United States,

I do agree this is the weakest of the Santa figures. I think a red helmet would have made the figure a lot better. I'm trying to work out a joke for "Jango Bells" or perhaps "Fettivus" or "Fettivity." Thanks for the reviews, even though I've got the calendar I've checked nearly everyday to see them.

Any thoughts on who next year's Santa will be? Maybe a Slave Leia Mrs. Claus? Or Grievous because it will be Episode 3?

Merry Christmas!

Steve

If the blue would be replaced with 2 shades of red, it would be fantastic. LEGO kind of missed an opportunity or just didnt feel like it.

..'cause I hate the last trilogy, I immediately changed Jango's helmet with a Boba Fett one! Looks excellent, even more because there's some dark green and dark red in it!!

Jango Claus is adorable.

But I prefer my genuine Santa Claus from the City calendar.

Great review, and I thoroughly enjoyed my very first LEGO Advent Calendar. Now to celebrate the arrival of Jango Claus, I have this song: Jango bells, Jango bells, Jango all the way! Oh what fun it is to ride on a one man Jango's Slave (1)!

Merry Christmas to everyone! :-)

Merry Christmas to all the hard-working staff at Brickset, and enjoy a day of building the LEGO that I'm sure is under everyone's tree :D

Regarding today's final advent, that torso is spectacular. Without it, I feel this minifig wouldn't be worthy to be behind door no. 24.

I guess we can expect a Christmas General Grievous next year.

^I would guess that alos, but i think that'd be hard for LEGO to do. Perhaps a christmas darth sidious, or perhaps Mace Windu or Obi-Wan? Darth-vader/Anakin?
