Tell us what you think: the 2010 Brickset user survey

Posted by ,

For the second year running, I'm conducting a user survey to find out what you like about the site and what you don't. Here's your chance to let me know what you think and to tell me your ideas and suggestions.

Last year's survey was a great success, with about 800 responses. Some great suggestions emerged and many of them have been implemented. This year I've bought the survey 'in house' (last year's was done at survs.com) which means I can do more with the data and can also make it publicly available on the site once the survey has ended.

So, don't hold back: tell me what you think!. Brickset thrives on user suggestions and its future direction will be influenced by this survey, so now's your chance to have a say. Please do so by the end of October.

That was a good survey. I did my best to give as many new ideas and areas of weakness, improvement, and excellence as possible. Looking back over the site in the past year or so since I joined, I have to say it just keeps getting better, and it was hard to think of areas for improvement.

^^ 1-6 just means that you can't sit on the fence like you can when you score 3 on a scale of 1-5.

I usually don't take surveys, but for a site like Brickset that I visit so frequently I couldn't resist! :D

Gahhh!!! I only got to put in my e-mail because I accidentally hit 'enter' and it submitted the survey! :(

^^ that's not good, is it. Perhaps someone should suggest I should make the surveys more robust ;-)

Clear your cookies for the domain or use another browser, then you can do it again. Don't tell anyone else though :-)

Just finished it, well done, and nice to see that we users influence the site so much! :)

Easy survey to complete, a great idea, and, quoting Krogh, it's "nice to see that we users influence the site so much".

just got done with the survey. i like the fact that you are asking the users what they want and think. this is really a great user based site. should have a payment meter for how much is needed for the site, then if we wanted we could make a donation to help in the upkeep.

I like how you guys take opinions from your users :D. Unlike some other LEGO Communities....:(

@everyone: ultimately it comes down to why the site is run: is it for your benefit or mine?

Without users the site would die, then I certainly wouldn't benefit, so it makes sense to listen to you and make sure it meets your needs, otherwise you'll go somewhere else that does.

That's true for any good website.

I did the survey when I wasn't loged in so it probably won't appear under my user name in the places where you had to type I didn't do so well since I'm a horrible typer

No need to be logged in, the survey is anonymous unless you enter your email address.

I took the Survey. I can't think of anything that can be improved or added.

@Alemas: A Forum? A Forum can be hard to manage. You have to find Moderators, then the moderators have to moderate the 100+ posts coming in all the time, and other stuff. Brickset is really a Database for Lego sets, it really isn't in need of a forum.

There already doing us a favor Moderating are comments and reviews, and the Comments are already like a mini forum. In my opinion, I think brickset is fine the way it is.

I just filled out my survey. One thing I want is stricter moderating on reviews, I am a grammar freak and can not stand when people type like they are texting (f.e. u, fav, etc.). I would find misspellings all right especially if English is not your first language but I am easily annoyed. On the other hand, A feature that I would find useful is to comment on Bricklists and maybe even entire themes/subthemes.

@Berrybrick - Yes, I Requested that you could 'report review' as some reviews have little or no info on the set. A good example is when a reviewer will natter on only about how THEY felt/feel about the set, not about the set itself. :(

DrathMaul1997-That wasn't my exact point, but I still agree with you.
