Orthanc rules, bricks down!! Just voted!

By in Australia,

The consensus around the interwebs seems to be that Tower of Orthanc is the best set of 2013...

By in United Kingdom,

Orthanc is now just 1 shy of 100.

By in Italy,

I voted Tower of Orthanc too. Very impressive set under all pint of view.

But what is the best theme?

I voted Lone Ranger; I am a huge fan of lego LOTR and but i think the second vawe is far less beautiful than the first (that I happily collect) and the set of LR are all very beutiful.

What do you think?

By in United States,

The Lone Ranger is certainly a favorite them of mine for 2013 (even though I have yet to get a set), still undecided as to if it's my favorite.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Yes, it was a tough decision! :D

By in United Kingdom,

Go Ewok Village - only a few percent behind !

;-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hope Orthanc wins. It was certainly the best set of 2013 IMHO.

By in Russian Federation,

Yea, Tower of the Orthanc and Ewok Village are really amazing projects, I'd like to have them, but I have no money for that unfortunately)

By in United States,

Ewok Village is better IMO, however they are both good sets.

By in Belgium,

The most strange from my point of vue is that The Lone Ranger is their "Better than expectd" and yours "favorite theme of 2013" and Tonto figure as the best 2013 minifigure.

In Europe (Belgium, France, Poland...) The Lone Ranger line it's more than THE DISAPPOINTMENT of the year!
Sales of those sets were a huge FLOP due to overprice (licence???) and rather poor film.
Even for the DVD/Blue-Ray release we had to wait almost 6 months!!!

All sets (except the train) were very similar to the Western Theme from 1997-2002.
Not many innovating concepts were done by the designers in this theme.
And frankly, those old Western sets were much better done than The Lone Ranger line.
79107 Comanche Camp is just a "drop of water" comparing to 6763/6766 Rapid River Village , 6748 Bulder Cliff Canyon or even 6746 Chef's Tepee, and oryginaly priced at 30€ (for few blocks and 3 minifigs! Guess which ones? - of course Tonto and Ranger they couldn't be missing there!!!!).
Only the Silver Mine is better done (much more nice pièces in nice colors) and of course a completly new concept of western train BUT NOT FOR THAT PRICE.

Now all The Lone Ranger sets are at least -50% on sale everywhere in Belgium and even so they are still "heating" shelves and getting dust on them ;-). Buying them for pieces isn't someting special except maybe The Silver Mine or Cavalery builders...

Even very nice 79111 Constitution Train Chaise shouldn't be priced at 120€. It's just a push-up train without any motor-engin nor the wireless receiver, the battery box and so on...

Figures are pretty? Yes, they are, but every single set has the same figure of Ranger and Tonto!
There isn't any variations of the main characters so why buy every set to have 6x(!)Rangers and 5x Tontos ?
The presence of a very nice figure of Red Harrington will certainly not justify 55 Euros to spend on 79108 set.
Didn't you noticed that the stage coach is really too big comparing to horses or houses from 79109 set so where is here the good work of designers ?

Well, that's just an european (continental) point of vue!

Both sets are great but for me the Ewok village wins out.
The construct of the tower is lovely but even with its detailed finish it is an 'easier' structure to replicate and the scale is still small when figures are placed inside. The village on the other hand is more intricate and trickier to replicate and on the scale they have produced gives more space for the fingers to 'pay' in. The finish is exquisite and truly capturs the essence of the village from the film.

@ Darth Brick: which shop has 79111 at 50% off?

Tower of Orthanc FTW!

By in Canada,

Fortunate to own both Ewok Village and Tower of Orthanc. In my opinion, Orthanc is the better of the two. Its detail and construction are sublime. Ewok Village makes a great case, but I believe it's second to Orthanc.

By in United Kingdom,

Come on Ewok Village!
Whichever way this goes, it's surprisingly exciting! :D

By in United Kingdom,

I haven't bought either set yet, I'm so sad to see everyone voting them both so highly! :( I haven't spent any money on Lego yet this month though so I think I will wait till next month and then buy one of them as a treat to myself. I prefer Star Wars to the LOTR so I think it will have to be the Ewok Village instead of the Tower of Orthanc although everytime I see the tower it looks so impressive. And I love the fact it comes with an Ent! Ah decisions decisions, think it's time to trade in some of my smaller Star Wars sets so I can get them both! :)

By in United States,

I'm rooting for Ewok Village, but if my favorite set had to come in second I'm glad it would be to Tower of Orthanc. Both are truly fantastic sets where it's obvious the designers put a lot of work into their creations. I'm currently building Ewok Village in the evenings, after dinner, and taking my time. The build has been so enjoyable I don't want it to end.

By in United Kingdom,

The Tower Of Orthanc should win this HANDS DOWN !

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I love the detail of both sets. The Ewok Village set barely edges out Orthanc for me. Might be a subconscious childhood memory thing.

Gravatar
By in Pakistan,

This is amazing, what an amazing neck to neck competition , hardly ever separated by 10 votes at any time . Seems like Orthanc just edges away as soon as Eowk closes the gap . Looking forward to the final rush hours .

And yes I am rooting for the Orthanc !

By in United States,

And -not that you can't look at the site yourself but- 12 hours left to vote, Ewok Village 273, Orthanc 274!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Thanks to eveybody who's voted - over 1,000 votes polled so far which is an excellent effort.

I have to say the voting is ridiculously close - as of about a minute ago Ewok Village and Orthanc were neck and neck at 345 votes each - unbelievable...

The poll will close at midnight tonight UK time, so if you still haven't voted and want to do so then get in quick.
