Interview with Keith Severson now livePosted by Huw, 21 Jan 2014 03:12Beyond the Brick's video inverview with Keith Severson, head of the LEGO CEE team, is now available to view on YouTube. I haven't watched it myself yet but Josh tells me he did ask several of the questions that you posted. 0 likes 9 comments on this article By BooTheMightyHamster in United Kingdom, 21 Jan 2014 06:26Interesting. Keith seems like a really nice chap. Brickset did get a mention but then as far as I can tell, notmany of our questions were asked (although they did touch briefly on the differences between fans in the regions). He was fairly open and honest about certain things - no there isn't much support for fans that are geographically distant from a LEGO Brand store and aren't close to a city to get to conventions. And when the inevitable 'so how do I get a job in your department?' question came up he made it clear that just being a LEGO uber-fan isn't enough. Business acumen, teamwork and communication skills are a priority. If there are any youngsters reading - if you want to get a decent job, ditch the text speak and brush up on your grammar!I was interested to see that after seven years in Denmark, Keith's still only got (by his own admission) a very limited grasp of Danish. He says he can read some and just about follow a conversation, but finds it difficult to speak. I guess we're fortunate that English is the de facto standard around the world, when different nationalities work together. Thanks to all concerned for all who made this possible, and for Bricksetters to be able to chip in to the conversation too. By Kiveton in United Kingdom, 21 Jan 2014 08:26The most interesting part for me was around the plans to improve links with LUGs through better web interaction.eg simplifying things like LUG bulk and event support. By yellowcastle in United States, 21 Jan 2014 15:16^^ Thanks for the overviews, Boo and Kiveton. I hope to watch it later tonight. By dougts in United States, 21 Jan 2014 17:18He mentioned he will be here in Portland, OR in early March to do his first product unveiling. My assumption would be the May Star Wars exclusive, but I suppose it could be something else, like #70815 or #70816 from the Lego Movie By UtarEmpire in United States, 21 Jan 2014 17:45lel @ him mentioning monorails at the endAFOLs really do have very specific in-jokes By dougts in United States, 21 Jan 2014 19:13overall I thought that far too much of the interview time was spent on acclimating to the Danish language and other related "small talk". Seems like they didn't really get into anything with much "meat" until nearly halfway through. I thought the questions about how they plan to improve the engagement experience for LUGs and non-LUGs were highlights of the interview, though like others I was disappointed by the response that basically all their efforts are focused through the LUGs. At least he was brutally honest about that however, and the improvements they plan on making sound good, depending on how they are made available By Coson in United States, 22 Jan 2014 14:41I would watch it, but 48 minutes is a bit too long for me. Sounds pretty good, though! By 3rdeye88 in United States, 23 Jan 2014 04:50I agree, not much "meat" to the questions, but when the time came up for some difficult answers, he didn't go to a preformed optimistic policy standard question, he gave an honest answer before sighing. Ya notice he sighed right before every answer just about? Still a good and informative watch. Can someone give me the exact spelling or contact info of Kevin's email. I do actually wanna ask him about the old gray. There doesn't seem to be a Contact option on the blog, at least that my nearsighted self can see. :P By DaveBey in United States, 23 Jan 2014 10:57Thank you, Keith, for taking the time to answer questions!I guess I need to find a LUG but according to the CEE web site, the nearest LUG is even farther away than the nearest LEGO store!
