Castle cycles, an overview
This list gives an overview of each of the Castle cycles. It came about because in the latter years, each cycle consists only of one subtheme and Brickset sorts that out rather well, so there is no longer the need to create Bricklists for those later cycles.

1. 375: Castle
Cycle 0 - Castle Subtheme, Town Theme.
Up till and including 1983.

2. 6021: Jousting Knights
Cycle 1 - Castle Theme, Gold Lions and Black Falcons.
Years: 1984 - 1987
The first cycle focused on the two factions that launched the theme, the Gold Lions and the Black Falcons. The cycle lasted for 4 years.
This is one of the few sets that had both these factions represented in the set. The list of sets for this cycle may be found in two parts;

3. 6042: Dungeon Hunters
Cycle 2 - Castle Theme, Black Knights and Forestmen
Years: 1988 - 1991
The second cycle introduced the Black Knights as the men in armor, and the Forestmen as medieval archers. Sets containing the Black Falcons and the Gold Lions continued to be introduced during this cycle. The cycle lasted for 4 years.

4. 6105: Medieval Knights
Cycle 3 - Castle Theme, Dragon Masters and Wolfpack
Years: 1992 - 1994
The third cycle introduced the Dragon Masters as the supposed good guys, and the Wolfpack as the supposedly villains. Sets containing the Black Knights and the Gold Lions continued to be introduced during this cycle. The cycle lasted for 3 years.

5. 6079: Dark Forest Fortress
Cycle 4 - Castle Theme, Royal Knights and Dark Forest
Years: 1995 - 1996
The fourth cycle introduced the Royal Knights as the men in armor, and the Dark Forest as the rogues. Sets containing the Dragon Masters continued to be introduced during this cycle. The cycle lasted for 2 years.

6. 6047: Traitor Transport
Cycle 5 - Castle Theme, Fright Knights subtheme
Years: 1997 - 1998
The fifth cycle departed from the norm and introduced only one faction, the Fright Knights. No sets with other factions were introduced during this cycle. However, a small set was included with the first computer chess game. The cycle lasted for just over a year in an effort to be more responsive to the market. Cycles from this point onwards consists of only 1 single subtheme. This cycle also marks the beginning of the end for the Castle theme.

7. 6045: Ninja Surprise
Cycle 6 - Castle Theme, Ninja subtheme
Years: 1998 - 1999
The sixth cycle took the them out of its medieval and fantasy roots and introduced an Asian flavour. No sets with other factions were introduced during this cycle. The cycle lasted for just over a year with two distinct waves. This is the penultimate subtheme and cycle.

8. 6026: King Leo
Cycle 7 - Castle Theme, Knights Kingdom subtheme
Years: 2000
The seventh cycle and the last cycle introduced one subtheme, the Knights Kingdom. Two factions were introduced with this subtheme, the heroic looking King's Knights and the scary looking Bull's Attack. The cycle lasted for a year with only one wave of release. This is the final subtheme that was released for the Castle Theme until the relaunch of the Castle theme 4 years later.

9. 8777: Vladek Encounter
Cycle 8 - Castle Theme, Knights Kingdom II subtheme
Years: 2004 - 2006
The eight cycle relaunched the Castle theme in the new millennium. Like its predecessor there were two separate factions. Due to the popularity of Bionicle, "action figure" sets were introduced together with the minifigure scale sets, most of which had "action features". The cycle lasted for 3 years.

10. 7091: Knight's Catapult Defense
