The Evolution of the Millennium Falcon
The Millennium Falcon is one of (if not) the most famous starships to ever fly across the Star Wars Galaxy. Although it appears to be a piece of junk this amazing starship along with it's daring pilot, Han Solo, has escaped the Empire time after time, and still goes on doing that to this day in that galaxy far, far away. This is the evolution of the Millennium Falcon in Lego form.

1. 7190: Millennium Falcon
We begin in the year 2000, one year after Lego made it's daring flight into the world of Star Wars. As this is Lego's first attempt at making the Millennium Falcon they've failed to bring it alive in true detail. The color scheme is okay, but the design is flawed. On the bright side, this does include Luke Skywalker (Tatooine), Han Solo (Falcon), Princess Leia, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2. This indicates that this set is based on the part in Episode IV where Darth Vader slays Ben Kenobi and the group leaves the Dearth Star in sorrow over the death of their leader. Compared to today's models, this set is very poorly built, but as for 2000, all this for $100 would have been a good buy.

2. 4488: Millennium Falcon
We step three ahead three years to 2003 where we see Lego has made it's first (and only) attempt at making the Millennium Falcon as a Mini Building Set. For a Mini Building Set, this really seems high-quality. The color scheme AND design are both correct for the first time. At $7 this would be a great way to obtain this model for a cheap price.

3. 4504: Millennium Falcon
After only one year Lego's at it again. This 2004 model is a big upgrade from the '7190-1: Millennium Falcon'. The design has improved very much, giving this a 'thumbs up', but the color scheme is a bit off. As you'll notice there are tan pieces here and there making this set look like the designer ran out of grey pieces and had to use what he had left. This set includes the minifigs Han Solo (Hoth), Princess Leia (Hoth), Chewbacca, a Snowtrooper, and C-3PO as well as a turret for the Snowtrooper. With it containing a Snowtrooper and Han and Leia in Hoth outifits, it indicates that this is from the part where they make another daring escape from the Empire on Hoth. At $100 this the best buy yet.

4. 10179: Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon
After three more years, in 2007, Lego's made one of THE most history sets in Lego history! The '10179-1: Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon' is the largest and most expensive set ever at 5195 pieces for $499.99. At that large of a price, this set is only for very dedicated collectors, avid fans of the Millennium Falcon, and people with vast sums of money. This set provides ultimate detail and the perfect color scheme for any collector's display case. As it includes the minifigs Ben Kenobi, Luke Skywalker (Tatooine), Han Solo, and Chewbacca this set indicates that it is based on the part in Episode IV when they are traveling onto the Death Star to resuce the Princess (Leia). This can also be used to re-create the scene where they escape the Death Star. But then again, at $499.99 this really should only be used as a collectible, not a toy.

5. 7778: Midi-scale Millennium Falcon
After another two years, Lego's stepped into the Midi-scale busines; the Falcon being it's first victim. I really think Lego would've been better off without this set, not that it's bad, but if you have a mini-scale, two minifig-scale, a midi-scale, and a UCS set of the Millennium Falcon, which would you rather have? Adults and UCS collectors would take the large-scale, collectors would love to display the mini-scale, and everyone else would just prefer the minifig-scale. That leaves the midi-scale as another dust collector. The design and color scheme are both good, but the only way you can really get any playability out of this is if you get the '8099-1: Midi-Scale Imperial Star Destroyer' set. So I wouldn't be quick to buy this.

6. 7965: Millennium Falcon
And finally we reach 2011, two years after the '7778-1: Midi-scale Millennium Falcon'. This year's verision of the Millennium Falcon is my personal favorite (I'm not a big fan of UCS). The design and color scheme are both outstanding. It provides a good mix of minifigs with Ben Kenobi, Luke Skywalker (Tatooine), Han Solo (Falcon), Princess Leia, and Darth Vader making this the one and only set to include Darth Vader. This set is priced at $139.99; a bit higher than other versions of the Millennium Falcon, but is still work the higher price. I have a feeling there will be a new ML soon, but until then, let the legacy of the Millennium Falcon live on forever.
