BrickList: Top 5 Harry Potter Sets
Top 5 Harry Potter Sets
If you want to learn more about some of your favorite Harry Potter sets, or know which ones are most worth your money, here's the list for you! This list is created by a lifelong Harry Potter and Lego fan who owns the majority of the Harry Potter sets.

1. 4729: Dumbledore's Office
This is the first set I thought of when I created this list. Even though it uses older building sets and does not look quite as sophisticated as the newer models, its unique assortment of parts, minifigures, and building styles stands out for me. I have it displayed in a prominent location in my own home, and I think it measures up to the likes of the new Hogwarts Castle (2010).

2. 10217: Diagon Alley
Diagon Alley is the quintessential hallmark of the Harry Potter wizarding world, and while Lego has produced several smaller buildings representing shops and institutions in the area (including Gringotts, Borgin and Burke's, Quality Quidditch Supplies, and a generic shop with storefront), 2011 marks the first year they released a definitive model that represents the Harry Potter universe alongside the new Hogwarts Castle. I really appreciate all of the colorful new pieces, building techniques, and minifigures, of course. Of particular note are the wizarding hats, Sorceror's Stone, goblins, vanishing cabinet (also in Hogwarts Castle), glow-in-the-dark pieces, wands, and more.

3. 4752: Professor Lupin's Classroom
What a fun little model for the fan who does not want to dole out the excessive cash of the castles and larger models. It's also the only set to contain the Prisoner of Azkaban Neville Longbottom and Boggart Snape. I love the rotating cabinet, tan spiral staircase (possibly unique to this set?), half-eaten chocolate bar, and magical paraphernalia abounding throughout the realistic and attractive set.

4. 4766: Graveyard Duel
While this set is definitely a bit darker than most of the other models in the theme, it's well-designed and essential, one of the only sets to contain Voldemort, Peter Pettigrew, and the older Death Eater Lucius Malfoy. I really like the inclusion of multiple graves and even a large tree. It forms an impressive spread much larger than the average set for its original price ($30).

5. 4842: Hogwarts Castle
Last but certainly not least is the centerpiece of any Lego HP fan's collection, the redoubtable castle. Clocking in at over a 1,000 pieces and towering over the previous models, this Hogwarts features all kinds of new minifigures, parts, rooms, and details which you will have to discover on your own. This set is just too fun to spoil. :-)
