The Most Complex Bionicle sets
This list is a selection of complex Bionicle sets that includes functions within them. Some have alternate models, combo models, gear functions and even RCX controls. The sets are listed by number of pieces.
It enlists all 2001-2002 Big Sets, as they were all cosidered as Technic sets, since Bionicle was meant to be buildable figures with Technic pieces.
It also includes almost all Battle vehicles, except some from 2009, that, while having good piece count, includes no gear functions or have predictable building.
Skopio's building is repetitive but not challenging at all, and he has no gear functions, but his pieces make up for him to be on this list.

1. 8996: Skopio XV-1
This set contains 840 pieces, 802 of which are used in the construction of the vehicle itself. The vehicle features scorpion-like retractable treads, blasters and moving pincers. Also, it can move on 4 legs or shift into a high speed tracked machine. The vehicle measures 20" (51 cm) long, 8" (20 cm) tall and 11"(28 cm) wide, and supports a small sized Bionicle figure as its pilot.

2. 8943: Axalara T9
This set consists of 693 pieces, 657 of which are used to make the vehicle. The "tri-arms" are able to fold away by spinning a wheel on either side, while another pair of wheels directly in front of those open or close the four side panels, revealing the set's two Midak Skyblasters. Larger wheels further forward on the craft's sides deploy Axalara's landing gear. A handle, affixed to the bottom of the vehicle, assists in play. It measures twenty inches (fifty-two cm) long and thirteen inches (thirty cm) high.
It supports a medium sized Bionicle figure as a pilot.

3. 8558: Cahdok and Gahdok
Another set including two figures. Those complex figures can attack their opponents through their heads. Their tail serves as handles. Instead of masks, they can remove the chest of the opponent, then making this incapacitated to attack back.
Building instructions for alternate model are included.

4. 8538: Muaka & Kane-ra
Great set that includes two Rahi. They can attack each other with their mouths and grab the infected masks of their opponent. By removing an infected mask, the arm of the opponent can fall!

5. 8539: Manas
The only BIONICLE set to include a remote control (two controls included, each one used to each figure). It include functions to punch the opponent and to move!

6. 8942: Jetrax T6
This set consists of 422 pieces, 389 of which are used to make the vehicle. Its wings, which are able to fold up against the craft for landing, feature two Midak Skyblasters, while a third appears near the nose of the vehicle. The Midak skyblasters are gatling gun-like pieces which launches spheres. Its cockpit is able to open so the medium sized Bionicle figure used as the pilot can enter or leave the vehicle. A handle situated on the craft's underside facilitates play, and also serves as a mechanism to fold the wings up, while an armor piece on the top of the craft acts as a button to unfold the wings. The set includes twelve silver Zamor Spheres to be loaded in the Midak Skyblasters. It measures twenty-two inches (fifty-six cm) long and seventeen inches (forty-three cm) wide with the wings unfolded.
An alternate model of the Jetrax T6, known as the Destral Cycle, was unveiled in the November LEGO Club magazine. Unfortunately, the set doesn't includes the instructions of this alternative models, these can be achieved only by the internet.

7. 8549: Tarakava
Another set including two Rahi. They can use their arms to remove the mask from the face of their oponent.
Building instructions for Tarakava Nui (Combo model) are included.

8. 8941: Rockoh T3
This set consists of 390 pieces, 353 of which are used to make the vehicle. Sections of its wings and the blasters attached can fold up over the front of the vehicle to power dive when one spins an axle on the back of the vehicle. Also, a lever on the vehicle's side operates a Zamor Launcher. The Zamor Launcher and cartridge hold the set's six silver Zamor Spheres. The set can also be held by a handle below for added play value. It supports a medium sized Bionicle figure as a pilot.

9. 8557: Exo-Toa
This set can attaches an original Toa set into it. It also have a firing cannon in its left hand and a moving claw (with function) in its right hand.
Building instructions for a robotic steed (Alternate Model) are included. Does not include a figure.

10. 8954: Mazeka
This set includes a small sized pilot (called Mazeka) and a vehicle (called Swamp Strider). The Swamp Strider uses 286 of the set's 301 pieces. The set's turret is capable of rotating 360°, and the platform of the turret can move diagonally up and down. The Swamp Strider set is armed with a Zamor Launcher whose three cartridges hold the set's nine silver Zamor Spheres.

11. 8548: Nui-Jaga
Another set including two Rahi. Those scorpion-like Rahi can use the tail to attack their opponents and makes the masks fall.

12. 8595: Takua and Pewku
This set includes Pewku (an ussal crab) and Takua. Takua can move his arms through gears. The Ussal crab can move its legs when the wheels located at the bottom of the construction touches the floor.

13. 8594: Jaller and Gukko
This set includes a Gukko bird and Jaller. Jaller can move his arms through gears. The Gukko Bird can move its four wings through a trigger located close to the handle.

14. 8556: Boxor Vehicle

15. 8537: Nui-Rama
