50% off Lego Universe. Isn't it selling well, they've got it on sale already?

Posted by 1265 in United States, 26 Nov 2010 07:57

Nothing exciting about these deals.

Posted by natro220 in United States, 26 Nov 2010 08:11

At 12:00 eastern time, I got the Front Loader for $47.97, the Pizza Planet Truck for $23.97, and the Wind Turbine Transport for $35.97...wonder if that was a glitch?

"At 12:00 eastern time, I got the Front Loader for $47.97, the Pizza Planet Truck for $23.97, and the Wind Turbine Transport for $35.97...wonder if that was a glitch?"

I received the same deal at about 12:15am Eastern time. Woo hoo...

My order says that it's "In Customer Service." I never am able to get good deals on Lego, so I hope they don't cancel this one.

Posted by Farmer_John in United States, 26 Nov 2010 09:18

As a parting thought, it appears that Lego is phasing out their Toy Story line so get them while you can if you want them.

Toy Story 3 was out in the Summer, but I guess it's old news now. I was actually kind of surprised at how long Lego carried the Indiana Jones sets. I really liked those.

Posted by natro220 in United States, 26 Nov 2010 09:26

My order hasn't been finalized yet either. I wouldn't be surprised if they say it was a mistake...20% off is ok, but these were sets I never would have bought without a deep discount...so I also hope they don't cancel my order.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 26 Nov 2010 09:48

What did the discount work out to be, then, on these sets?

Posted by natro220 in United States, 26 Nov 2010 10:10

40% off is what they were originally when Farmer_John and I got them at 12:00 eastern time.

Posted by Sand Raider in United States, 26 Nov 2010 10:22

50% off Lego Universe, eh? I thought it was supposed to be so great and all.
The turbine and front loader are the only ones I have interst in. But why not other sets on sale, too?

Posted by habib604 in Canada, 26 Nov 2010 10:23

Bellevue, WA reporting in.

7597 Toy Story Western Train Chase is also 20% off at the store.

I also saw 2 person got 50% off already (1 of them only bought key chains!!! agghh!). The clerk said there are very few 50% off, so don't get your hopes up too high at the Bellevue store.

There also have most of the 2011 sets i could regonize stocked already. So today is a good day to get at least 10% off 2011 sets if you're close to a lego store.

The website is running so slow right now.

Posted by BooMakuta! in United States, 26 Nov 2010 10:42

Oh man, why doesn't Lego ever do 60% sales? 70%? I mean, 50% is good, but still, I'd like to see more sales and LESS RIDICULOUS PRICES. People on Brickset agree: Lego's prices are going way too high!

Posted by AZFIREWOLF in United States, 26 Nov 2010 11:06

BooMakuta - Even at 50% lego is still making a profit. For example the Falling Waters sets only costs maybe $33 bucks after everything is done. At 50% off they are still making a profit.

at 9:11am the lego website is starting to return page errors.

Posted by Farmer_John in United States, 26 Nov 2010 11:45

Lego is based on nothing but a creative use of injected molded plastic. No...it doesn't cost the company that much to produce their products. Their licensing agreements are likely Lego's most expensive line item when producing a product.

That said, I hope they don't cancel the deep discounted items in my order (still shows "In Customer Service"). That certainly wouldn't bode well for customer loyalty from my perspective. I also ordered some big ticket items including the Imperial Flagship, Emerald Express, and Medieval Market Village to name a few, and I would just cancel the entire order and spend my money on another hobby.

I'm surprised that they already have LEGO Universe 50% off. Wasn't it supposed to be a huge seller to younger age groups in the first place or maybe it was too expensive for that age group to afford the disc alone, much less the subscription costs (if parents didn't pay, but that's a different topic)?

No good deals for me, it's too close to Christmas anyway.

Posted by aplbomr79 in United States, 26 Nov 2010 12:43

Has anyone seen the Creator Set 'Log Cabin' (5766)? I see a number of people already own it... I would like to get it for my boys' for Christmas.

Posted by 1265 in United States, 26 Nov 2010 12:56

@ aplbomr79

I've seen the Log Cabin set at TRU and Lego stores (North Texas). I picked one up last weekend for $29.99 at TRU, but now TRU raised their price to $32.99.

Posted by The Beast in United States, 26 Nov 2010 13:10

aplbomr79, I went to my local Lego store and picked up a log cabin. It was the last one and the clerk said that it is very hard to find and I got it by using only Lego rewards points. Lucky me.

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 26 Nov 2010 13:33

I too Also got the front loader for 44 dollars and the wind tunnel transport for $33 ( had over $150 too, so I got the additional 10% and the free shipping)
Mine just shows the status as 'in progress' so I think it should go through...
Although Lego.com has 'sold me short' before with the Holiday trains. When they said I had an invoice for 2 trains at $50 each and then after ignoring them at the store and letting them sell out they eventually came back and said sorry we messed up your order and had no trains to send me. They refunded my money, but I still feel that they owed me something for that, as strange as it seems.

So hopefully they do not do something similar here.

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 26 Nov 2010 13:36

@Beast: The Lego store I went to had tons of Log cabins, although they cannot seem to be found at TRU stores. (unless I happened upon them when they put them out, although it was last Saturday). If the Store I went to didn't still have a Green Grocer I would have gotten more than 1.

But it is always a good deal when you can buy a set and not have to pay anything for it :-)

Posted by dhaas06 in United States, 26 Nov 2010 16:36

In regard to Universe being 50% off:
This isn't like your typical clearance sale on an item that isn't selling well. The real money to be made on this product isn't from the initial sale, but on the required monthly subscription. Now that all of the initial release demand has passed, phase two of their strategy is to get it in as many hands as possible (even at half price) in order to increase the number of subscribers. Even if the software ends up being free, there are monthly costs required to use it.

Posted by Sky-guardian in United States, 26 Nov 2010 16:44

I went to target but the deals weren't that great. Any other stores have big sales?

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 26 Nov 2010 16:49

@Sky-Guardian: The 'pickens' are slim....

TRU has a decent deal with the Garage and the Family home at $70 and 42 respectively BUT it appears you also have to pay a portion of the shipping, which stinks..
I think everyone is waiting for the Series 3 figs to be out anyway...
I would say watch shop.lego.com for the sales tomorrow. AS they have had nice deal with the Front loader and the Wind turbine transport. My guess is that Lego is trying to clear out whatever they have in their warehouse of sets that are being discontinued (as the Front loader is sold out and I am guessing that the Wind Turbine transport will eventually sell out as well. I am kind of hoping the Emerald Night and the Medieval Market Village will go on sale as well.

I was one of the first ones in the lego store this morning. another gentleman that got in front of me in line and the person at the register pulled out this card already scratched for him. it was a 50% off. he bought a grand then at 50% off. I was upset and told the lady at the counter, just looked at me and smiled and then handed me an unscrached card and it was 10%. i told her i wanted to be treated like the gentleman in front of me, she just smiled and said sorry about that but at least you still have 10%. i put my items back on the counter and just left.
50% off at the ontario mills is rigged. beware.

Posted by legomaniac in United States, 26 Nov 2010 18:21

The wind turbine transport is a set I really want to buy, but I can't see it being worth $50 even when it is on sale. Can't find it anywhere for at least $35

Posted by wildcherryp3psi in United States, 26 Nov 2010 19:28

@aplbomr79, I saw the cabin at the Lego store in Chandler, AZ.
I picked up 8128 Cad Bane's Speeder $49.99 and a Jester key chain on sale for $2.48, got a 20% of scratch card at the register. Total of purchase after $15 in VIP points = $29.64 Yay!

Posted by lady_bricker in United States, 26 Nov 2010 21:16

legomaniac, wind turbine was one of the sets that was mistakenly listed at 40% off at S@H this morning, two different times -- sorry you missed it!

i picked up two log cabins from TRU online when they had the BOGO 1/2 OFF sale earlier this month. love that set!

after reading the reviews of lego universe, i was going to skip it (my son really wanted it for christmas) .. but at half off and with a free rocket lego set, it was worth $20 even for just a month's play. if he really enjoys it, he can spend his allowance to keep playing.

Posted by Nickds in United States, 26 Nov 2010 21:27

BOGO is back at TRU. Check their site and goto Deals of the Day. There is a printable in store only coupon for Saturday only. It excludes Star Wars, Harry Potter, Pharoah's Quest and Lego Mini Figures series 3.

Posted by aplbomr79 in United States, 26 Nov 2010 21:35

Thanks guys, I did find one last one at my local TRU - I stopped in on my way home from Fleet Farm and there it was! $30.00 seems like a good price to me.

Posted by aaronptrck in United States, 27 Nov 2010 00:54

Additional sets have been added to the Sales and Deals section! :D
Pizza Planet Truck and the Front End Loader have since sold out.

50% off Lego Universe already? Shame. The game had so much potential.
