    Merely 6 weeks since it was launched, the LEGO Universe DVD is now half price at £14.99 until 19th December, which is a more reasonable entry-price for the MMOG, particulary since you also receive the 55001 Universe rocket which costs £7.99 in the brand stores so you're effectively getting the game for £7.  I haven't played myself but at that price I'm tempted...

    One could draw conclusions from this reduction, and a similar one in the USA over Thanksgiving, that it's not selling too well.

    Have you played it? It it worth the initial price and subsequent subscription? Are there many other players online when you play? (Can you tell?)

I always assumed this was aimed at kids. I think I'd feel a little weird about playing it if that's the case.

It's not unusual for prices to drop a couple of months after a game is released; this seems a little early, but I guess they want to take advantage of the Christmas rush.

It's interesting to note that, as promised, they're already expanding the number of in-game worlds, with even more content coming throughout next year ...

I think this game will be free to play within a year, with micro transaction within the game, to keep the costs covered.

I have played it, and although I enjoyed it for the initial free trial, I wasn't sure I could justify the fee to continue playing. There did appear to be quite a few people playing when I played, so many in fact that a bit of 'slow-down' occurred in-game. But yeah it was kind of cool :-)

I can see this becoming free (except the initial CD) as mentioned above. Probably through advertisement of other kid-friendly sites or reatilers of LEGO products.

I dunno about it going free with micro transactions or whatever supporting it. I played for quite a while during the beta, and it is actually not that bad a game. The only reason I decided not to subscribe after the beta was the lack of manners displayed by many of the players. With a game geared towards kids, I should have expected it, but still... I would have hoped to find lego fans were better than that. The one thing I found to be the game's biggest draw was the ability to build on your "private property." This feature almost made the fee worth it. If you could find the brick in the game, you could use it. It was basically like the Digital Designer, but without the limitation of only bricks currently avaliable for sale. You could find all sorts or classic pieces to use in your designs. I probably spent more time looking for bricks and building than on the quests. Even so..... if you are willing to put up with the standard MMO lack of manners in players, I'd say this is actually well worth it.

The building aspect of LEGO Universe is good for what it is. You can build creations on your personal property LDD-style, and bring your creations to life using a simplified programming system. The only drawbacks are that you have to fight in order to claim your property, and you have to smash things in order to get more bricks or more money to buy more bricks (yep, bricks are limited).
The properties have a rating system, in which the most popular properties would be featured in a news feed, but this makes it harder for new properties to get attention because a majority of players would just visit the featured properties.

Aside from the building, LEGO Universe gameplay is about the same as an ordinary MMOG. There are missions, achievements, minigames and battles scattered throughout the gameworld.
One part of gameplay that stands out is the ability to join one of four Factions, each Faction based on separate aspects of gameplay. The only drawback about this is that there is a tendency for Faction-related arguments to start between players.

All in all, LEGO Universe is a fun and safe online environment for LEGO fans alike. :-)

I played (BARELY) during the Beta, but my computer had lots of problems supporting it. Is this LU deal also in the United States? They have it for 20 dollars, but does it come with the rocket? The game is awesome, but it probably has problems selling because while World of Warcraft is aimed at older people, who have money to pay for a high monthly premium as well as a high starting price, this is aimed at kids, many of whose parents will not pay this money. I think my little brother is crazy trying to get this...it doesn't even work on our computer!!
