Indiana Jones minifig gallery now up

  • Indiana Jones minifig gallery now up

Posted by Huw, 22 Jan 2011 05:12. Filed under Brickset.

I've completed the Indiana Jones minifig gallery which features all 44 figures released in 2008 and 2009.

Photographing and post-processing them was tricker than other series due to the number of them with white clothes. I'm not entirely happy with all of them and if I get time I may try and improve on some. But having said that, what's there now is much better than we've had before.

Miscellaneous? Belloq should be filed under adversaries and Short Round, Satipo and Mutt(I refuse to aknowledge the events of "Crystal Bullsh*t") should be filed under side-kicks. Great job with the pictures, as usual.

I see you have chosen to not include the ordinary skeletons. Why is that? Besides that minor point; Job very well done. Thanks!

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 22 Jan 2011 06:33

^ Because they are not 'Indiana Jones' minifigs: they appear in all sort of sets.

Nice !

Some of the images do seem a little overexposed, and I'm afraid that trial and error often seems the only way of getting the settings right when you photograph these guys. The pics are still more than adequate, though - thanks for doing this for us.

Just let me know when you're ready to accept the Star Wars challenge and I'll see what I can do regarding providing the missing figures !

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 22 Jan 2011 07:07

^ yes, they are a bit over-cooked aren't they! The originals are fine, but the post processing to turn the background white has done that. I'm going to see if I can find a better means of doing it.

Posted by morteroa in Norway, 22 Jan 2011 08:20

I'd love to see a Toy Story gallery done, and maybe the larger minifigs like Lotso and Dino could be added as actual minifigs. I would think most people consider them as such.

I think that the pictures are great, and that they don't need refining. Great Job!

wow nice, star wars will take forever eh?

Very nice! I don't mean to be rude but...would you do star wars?

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 22 Jan 2011 12:09

Huw said - "I'm going to see if I can find a better means of doing it" ... happy to take a crack at it if you want to send them over.

For a couple of the figs it looks almost like the centre 'fill in' flash didn't fire? Elsa, the first Marion, the first Willie & the second Egyptian thug for example.

@Huw, Yes, but the conquistador skeletons are exclusive to Indiana Jones aren't they?

Posted by Be-Burger in Israel, 22 Jan 2011 13:45

They look very good, a couple not as good as the rest, but overall excellent.
I noticed that you placed Belloq as misc, but he would be better of in the adversaries I think ;)

You should do some of the smaller themes like Spiderman,Toy Story and Spongebob

Great! It's just great1 Thanks for doing this! Hope you can do Star Wars soon.....

Posted by spency13 in United States, 22 Jan 2011 16:06

Spongebob next, please!!!!!

Thank you for this gallery :)

The pics are super, but you either need to move Irina Spalko to "females" or else rename the group to "girlfriends"!

Outstanding job Huw!!! The figs great and looking forward to the next group of figs.

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 22 Jan 2011 22:14

Great job Huw. Even though some looked a little/slightly washed out I love these pics. Really a great resource to keep track of everyone's figs. Keep 'em coming!

Got a couple of nit picks, if you can ever get to them...

Maybe for Indiana Jones break up the categories as 'Allies' and 'Adversaries' and 'Misc.'.
I count Jock and Short Round as Allies.
Rene Belloq and Satipo as an Adversary.

Also if you keep the 'Family' Category...you have to include Marion Ravenwood from any Kingdom of the Crystal Skull set (only one for now) as family since she marries Indy at the end of that movie.

Oh, also...I see a set that not included in your Indy database. I have a Brickmaster set from San Diego Comic Con 2008. It has a unique 'crate' looking graphic for the box, limited to 500 and includes the same Brickmaster Indy with Jeep (20004) but comes with a new little vignette scene(small temple like ruins and a trap) and 2 Ugha Warriors that look the same as the ones from the Temple of the Crystal Skull.

Oh great...now I have to go out and buy another couple of sets at after market prices to complete my IJ minifig sets! ;-)

Posted by CharlieTheFunEngine in Australia, 22 Jan 2011 23:03

@ morteroa - Yes, Rex, Hamm, Lotso, Chunk etc should definitely be included in the minifig gallery for Toy Story. I only have the Pizza Planet Truck Rescue set but I hate it when I see it referred to as only having two minifigs, Buzz and LGM, when it also has Rex and Hamm who, for some reason, aren't counted as minifigs by Bricklink.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 23 Jan 2011 04:53

@legoDad, I've moved a couple of figs but the purpose of the groupings is to group similar figures rather than be 100% accurate, so Marion will remain with the females :-)

Bluemoose now has the original images out of the camera and I'm sure will do a better job at post-processing them than I so we should have some improved ones to upload soon.

Posted by richselby in United Kingdom, 23 Jan 2011 09:35

A significant improvement on the Bricklink versions. Time well spent.

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 23 Jan 2011 09:38

Will you make non-licenced themes too, Huw? :)

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 24 Jan 2011 11:52

Well the pics look great, but when I enlarged the photo of Henry Jones Sr. with a great hat, the name of the minifig was still "iaj002: Henrey Jones Sr. - Dark Bluish Gray Pith Helmet". It'd be nice if you could re-name them something that makes sence like "Henry Jones Sr. (2008)".

@the_real_indy - Lol, girlfriends.

@Huw, Couldn't you make a Star Wars minifig gallery with the pics from BrickLink, and take pics of the ones you have now and put them in as you have time. I know DrDaveWatford has almost all of the Star Wars sets, so if you came up with a system to meet with collectors of various themes to develop the different galleries, that would be one way to take care of the missing figs part.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 24 Jan 2011 13:31

^ The names are the BrickLink names which are the de-facto names among collectors so it would be silly not to display them.

I *will* be doing Star Wars but not yet, for reasons that I can't reveal at the moment.

Posted by Jonny 2 Scarves in United Kingdom, 24 Jan 2011 14:07

I agree with LegoDad42 - I too have the SDCC 2008 Lego Indy set. Please can you add it to the database? You do have other convention exclusives listed on here, like the Cube Dudes (though not all the SDCC Star Wars sets). Thanks!

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 24 Jan 2011 15:34

Email me a pic and I will...

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 24 Jan 2011 15:46

@Huw - You're right, that name does sound very simple and definetly is not de-facto. What if you just changed the way you wrote the names a little like change "iaj002: Henry Jones Sr. - Dark Bluish Gray Pith Helmet" to "iaj002: Henry Jones Sr. (Gray Pith Helmet)". Since there are only two versions of him, why not just say Gray Pith Helmet instead of Dark Bluish Gray Pith Helmet. Since Brickset is taking their own pics, why not give them a little different names, to say they're 100% Brickset's and not shared with BrickLink.

EDIT: I'd even be willing to help re-name the figs if you decided to and it's possible.
