    ...absolutely fantastic!

    Thanks to Bert who found this image of a forthcoming Maersk train set, consisting of a Maersk liveried locomotive, container flats and container handling vehicle, at LEGO.com. It looks great and it's a set that people will be certain to want to buy multiples of, so that trains can be double- or triple- headed and to get more wagons. Personally I can't wait...

    Update: I've been asked to remove the image, despite the fact it was found on LEGO's own server. I will leave the link to it intact, if they want it removed, they can do it themselves.

I'm trying not to get too excited, just in case this ends up being an exclusive set for Maersk employees like the container ship initially was (although thankfully LEGO eventually made them available to all), and like the Vestas windmill still is....

I agree that it looks absolutely superb, and I can certainly see myself getting a couple of them. If we're given the opportunity of buying officially, that is, rather than being held to ransom by gleeful Maersk employees on eBay....

Love this new set! Makes me even more tempered to but the Maersk Container Ship.

And yes some of our trains even have 1 or 2 engines at the end of each train. This is usually what you see when trains go cross-country and have a long cargo line to pull.

Although, honestly? One big engine, two reasonably sized carriages *plus* the truck -- I'm scared to think what the price will eventually be (particularly given that in Australia, we're currently paying twice as much as overseas Lego buyers).

@Dodge - I can't see this coming with a 9V motor I'm afraid. I actually don't think it'll come with a motor at all, to be honest. Motor or no motor, it will of course fit on both the old 9V and the newer tracks I'm sure.

It's nice looking but not worth the price. It's a nice engine, very details with a cool truck. However the train cars are lacking. I think I'll just find the directions and make my own version.

Hooray! What a neat set! If you look carefully, you can see that the train has Power Functions! On the roof of the locomotive you can see the IR Reciever, and the SNOTted sides of the loco are probably to cover the 4 stud wide battery box!I can't wait for this train to come out!

@superbrick - well, my first thought was Unimog, especially because of the release of 8110 Technic U400, there are some similarities with Mog - steep windscreen, very short and typical for U400 bonnet, on the other hand the construction of the truck looks quite similar to 1651 Maersk truck - 4 wide cab, 6 wide body

..sigh.. yep there goes my Lego Budget for the year....My first guess is that it will be 100 dollars US.
Especially if it does not come with track or engine....So it probably should fall in line with the Emerald Night.. But I guess it will go up to 149.99 As it has the truck and three minifigs. But if it does come out at 150 then I have a feeling Lego will have a ton of these left for a clearance...

Maersk is a danish fright company, owned by the richest man i denmark Maersk M. Møller. (And yes i can do the æ, ø and å because the danish are really weird. Who add 3 letters to the alphabet for fun??) Anyway, Maersk transports goods all over the world. If you live near a port or an airport, you are most likely to see a container with the name Maersk on it. Now you know!

If the set is in fact the "next exclusive", if the set is marketed much like the Emerald Night (special, fancier than usual) set...it sure looks like it's intended to the AFOL market (me).

I'm very hopeful Lego would not deny AFOL's the chance to buy this set. Besides, train collectors must want other 10133 style locomotives. I would buy this style locomotive no matter what the color. The black and baby blue is a fantastic bonus.

Here in Colorado BNSF uses 4 engines on the coal trains, they don't come over the mountain passes. But Union Pacific uses 6 engines because they come over the Rocky Mountains with their coal trains. As for the maersk train, put me down for 5 atleast

It looks like Lego is attempting to make an EMD SD40-2, one of the most popular locomotives in the U.S., though the set loco has 2 wheel trucks instead of 3 wheel trucks.

Also, it is common practice to place a pair of locos at the end of a train as it goes over mountain routes near where I live.

If you are a train purist, you may need to get up o six of this set, which would give a nice intermodal consist, 4 locos for the head, and a pair of helpers for the rear. Though if you are a train purist, you would also have to modify all of the trucks on the locos to make them 3 wheel type.

I am definately interested in this set as a train/Lego/HO scale model railroading enthusiast.

As we've seen with the Emerald Night, I bet we'll see a lot of custom versions of this set from fans after it's released. Maersk holds a special place in the hearts of many older LEGO collectors and fans, and I think this set is going to be a big seller :-)

@ bluemoose: I plan on making a black diesel with red base on Lego Digital Designer once the instructions become public. However: I want to order it eventually, so I will be restricted to the Design By me pallet. Hopefully it will work out. By the way, does anyone even want to guess how long the engine is? My guess is a 28 studs long base, with extensions of 2 studs on each end. But then again: it looks longer than the freight cars, which are 34 studs long. Mabye a new, longer train baseplate?

Well remember how the BNSF engine (and the Santa Fe carriages, IIRC) was on a 28 stud baseplate, but they added 6x2 plates on either side to make the base longer?

They've probably done the same thing here, I would guess.

The reason I believe it is based on an SD40-2 (6 axled locomotve with 3 axles per truck) is because a Norfolk Southern SD40-2 (3329) was one of the 3 locomotives painted into this promotional sceme along with a Santa Fe ex. Amtrak SDF40-2 and a Santa Fe GP60M.

My guess is Lego made it 4 axeled becasue the train motor cannot accept a 3rd axle. Otherwise it seems to be pretty accurate. I still would love to see the NS logo on the Loco though...

Well this has definately jumped to the top of my wanted list. I already told the wife this evening that my Lego buying has been put on hold until this comes out - aside from Series 4 Minifigs, of course.....;)

I am not really that big into the train scene, but love vehicles and that truck is a must have. The last train theme I bought was this: http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=10170-1

Hopefully the price wont be higher than $130 either. I guess we'll have to wait and see on that, however.

Ironic isn't it? The CEO of The Lego Group asks fans not to publish pics of pre-release sets pinched from elsewhere, whilst at the same time then they go and upload some to their own public web server. And instead of taking down the image when they realise their mistake, they ask other websites not to link to it. You couldn't make this up.
Memo to TLG top brass: please read up on web based marketing techniques. You have much to gain and little to lose.

The genie is out of the bottle now. Every search on google points back here and to the dozens of blogs and flickr users that are referencing Brickset and a copy of the webserver image. Brickset is certainly a powerful Lego media partner now. I've never seen such urgency and oversight from a company based on one fan website...big brother is certainly entrenched in this place now...feels kind of icky...

We've been told that the reason for keeping it under wraps was because it was meant to be officially unveiled at an AFOL event in the near future; so LEGO are officially unhappy (with themselves) that it's been released early ... suggestions that it was a 'marketing leak' don't really add up.

They don't seem to learn from their mistakes, do they? How many times have we found out about new sets from Lego uploading images too early?
The engine looks good, as does the tractor. The container cars however look pretty bland. At least there's two of them. Maybe all that moaning about the Emerald Night with its single car has had some effect after all?

@Duq. I agree with you on the Container Cars being bland. But they are the first container cars LEGO has done since 2005.

@legocoastguard - The Maersk ship is not necessarily worth the price (about 25% too high). It is not minifig scale but if you like midi scale realistic sets it's not too bad. It actually is about the scale of the Tower Bridge set (a little bigger), but the two together look great!. You need two cargo ships combined to make a decent minifig scale ship though 250 bucks for a cargo ship is pushing it. Also, you'll be shocked by the size of the box, about the size of a shoe box, the Train is easily $159 in my opinion.
