White Boba Fett giveaway in Smyths stores in the UK

At last! A means to get one without forking out ridiculous sums on BrickLink! Smyths Toys are giving them away with any LEGO purchase. Guess where I'm off to this morning...

Update: I should thank Thomas C who posted in the Brickish forums that he was able to buy a couple for £2.99 in a branch up north somewhere. So, I rang the Salisbury branch this morning to see if they were selling them and the lady said, no, they were giving them away 'with any LEGO purchase'. I went there (a 50 minute drive away) and bought two non Star Wars sets and asked the guy at the till how many I could have. He said 'one per person' so I said my wife would buy one of the sets. He said not to bother and gave me two anyway. I then received an email on my phone from a good friend asking if I could get him two. So, I went back in and a couple of Star Wars battle packs later, I was in recepit of two more.

However, I'm not quite sure what the point of the promotion is: there's no signage anwhere that might act as encouragement to buy LEGO and if I hadn't known and asked before I bought anything, I would have been none the wiser... It's also not clear what you need to buy to qualify: a series 3 minifig might have been enough (of which there were 3-4 cases).

So, good luck in your attempts to secure this most sought after Star Wars minifig!

Wow - Huw, how did you find out about this? I can't see anything on the Smyths website, and when I try to phone my 'nearest' store the line's busy.

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 12 Feb 2011 06:08

I wonder if this applies to Ireland too?

Posted by matt666 in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 06:08

Just called my local store (Oldham), and they confirmed the offer..BUT it does not start until 16th February (Wednesday)

Posted by MinifigureMan in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 06:23

Woh! Shame I can't get one, there isn't one near me. :( i really wanted to get one, the only way is if it works online... If anyone finds out, I would be very grateful if you told me! Thanks!

Posted by atkinsar in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 06:45

Hopefully it's online too because I've never even seen a Smyths Toys store in the UK, I thought they were only in Ireland. Just checked and the nearest one to me is in Birmingham.

Posted by Markey in Belgium, 12 Feb 2011 07:17

Non of their shops near me either. I'll keep an eye out on the website...

Posted by Pulpdiction in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 07:38

Cool, I'll be 200m from one on Tuesdya and Wed so I'll call in.

Posted by Jammiedodger714 in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 08:00

Well then, we're off to Birmingham on Wednesday! =D
Thanks for the news!

Posted by legobagel in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 08:42

how much do you need to spend?

Posted by Trawler in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 08:54

with any LEGO purchase.

Posted by jonboy2000 in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 09:15

With any Star Wars LEGO purchase according to my phone conversation(no minimum spend limit)

Posted by Kotton in United States, 12 Feb 2011 10:24

I want one so bad (without paying $20+ for it)! If anyone can get me one I would be super pumped!

Posted by Super Robot Wars in Ireland, 12 Feb 2011 10:52

@LukeSkywalker Doubt it, Ireland never seems to get these promotions. TLG doesn't see Ireland as big of a Market as the UK. I could be wrong though and if I am I'm definitely going to get one!

Posted by marknam in Hong Kong, 12 Feb 2011 11:17

I just rang the Cardiff store (from Hong Kong), and the duty manager said there was no such offer? Anyone received one from Cardiff in the Capital Shopping Centre?

Posted by modena in Italy, 12 Feb 2011 11:51

Cool! I thought it came out a year ago, as seen on the 2853835. Well, never mind.

Posted by Doctor Leg O'Brick in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 11:58

If any of you are going to Smyths in Birmingham, the lego is on the left when you go in the front door. As if its hard to see, I was thinking i might as well tell you. And when your there, Argos (which is past the bed shop) has a nice box or two of series three I think, if not Argos still have a good lot of 2011 LEGO...and Sainsburys had 8085 a few months ago...

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 12:01

@modena - There were a few given out at Toy Fair New York in 2010, but their availability has been a bit sporadic to say the least. As far as we know, this is the first time they've been available in the UK ... hence this being listed under 'Shopping news (UK)'.

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 12 Feb 2011 12:29

@Super Robot Wars - Good news, they'll have them in Irish stores on the 16th! :) I was in Smyths today and asked at the customer service desk, she said they'd be giving them away from Wednesday onwards, yay!

Posted by wayno23 in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 12:43

just rang the Speke store (north west) they said there are no lego promotions on :(

Posted by Morgan19 in United States, 12 Feb 2011 13:23

These have yet to turn up in the US that much, but I'd love to get a hold of one for my collection. They might show up here eventually, but in the meantime... Are there any UK members who have an extra (or two) from this promo and might be willing to do a trade or sale with me?

If anyone would be willing, just click my name above this post and then the "Contact Morgan19" link. :)

Posted by Superblackbiker in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 13:51

How long does the deal at the Salisbury branch go on till? I can only go there next weekend so I'm hoping it will still be available then!

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 13:58

^ No idea -- probably until they run out.

Posted by sweener in United States, 12 Feb 2011 14:51

Same here anyone willing to send me one to the US? Please contact me!

Posted by camlad in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 16:13

is this on their site? NEED to know please

Posted by roball1956 in United Kingdom, 12 Feb 2011 16:16

Went into my local Smyths (Durham) this afternoon (saturday 12/2/11) and the girl on the till new nothing about this offer. I insisted the offer was real so she went to find the manager. He confirmed the offer was correct but it is not due to start until Wednesday 16/2/11.

Posted by JohnJoe in Ireland, 12 Feb 2011 18:59

Does this count if you buy online?

Posted by Ravenxl7 in United States, 12 Feb 2011 20:44

Not to sound annoying, but, add me to the list of people in the US that are interested in obtaining one of these from our cousins in the UK :)

I'm a big fan of Boba Fett, and this minifigure reminds me a lot of his concept design. Would love to add it to my rather small Lego collection (mostly Harry Potter stuff).

Posted by Zacherano in United States, 12 Feb 2011 23:23

I second all the other U.S. people who would like to obtain one of these. It would be even better if someone from the U.S. happened to have one of these. I have never heard of any actual deals available to the "plebeian" Lego collector here - a change for once, I suppose. Good luck to everyone in the UK!

Posted by MinifigureMan in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 06:36

So if you are in the UK and order one, is there a chance you could get one?

Posted by brickzone in Ireland, 13 Feb 2011 06:36

@LukeSkywalker - Thanks for confirmation they'll be in Ireland too! I'll be down at Smyths Toys on Thursday evening so.

Not sure what to buy - I got some recent sets at Art n Hobby because they were normal price (e.g. €120 for Hogwarts, €50 for Rise of the Sphinx) but as always you get a €20 voucher for every €120 you spend (loyalty card - stamped every €20 you spend - six stamps for a voucher). That's better than the Lego VIP deal!

Argos have had reductions recently too, so that leaves the remaining options for getting something at Smyths a bit more limited as they don't have any great deals at the moment.

Posted by skirata74 in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 07:26

just got back from salisbury with my lovely new white boba fett figures (3hour round trip). the man at the cashier desk you only have to buy a boxed lego set (staring at £3.99) to get a free figure. i got 8 free figs for me and my friend for the sum of £7.98 and you also get a free ninjago - sensi wu's book of wisdom. the man at the desk said i could have as many fett figs as i wanted (not one per customer). so get to salisbury and fill your boots.

Posted by Super Robot Wars in Ireland, 13 Feb 2011 08:21

@LukeSkywalker - Thanks for the confirmation as well! I'll buy some Starwars battle packs to obtain a few White Boba Fetts.

Posted by avacadoturban in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 09:06

Thanks Huw - wouldn't have known about this offer at all. Went to Smyth's in Salisbury today and got myself 3 Boba Fetts! Two battlepacks and a PQ set = 3 brilliant Bobas!!!

Will be going back on Tuesday first-thing to get some more for trading with the AFOL community :)

Posted by jonboy2000 in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 11:27

If you go to captaincash.co.uk you can get a 5 pound Smyths voucher to redeem if you spend 25 pound or more.

Posted by ensign_dave in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 11:43

I did a 3hr round trip to Smyths Salisbury. I was told I had to buy a star wars lego related item to get the free white boba. I left there at 14:00 and can confirm there were only 4 Boba's left at that time. I bought a battle pack just to get the fett!

Posted by wayno23 in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 13:10

@ ensign_dave - please tell me you got more than 1 fett...... seems odd you did a 3hr round trip spent £10 on lego just to get a free fett! coz if so would it have not been cheaper and easier just to buy one off bricklink lol :)

Really hoping the store i`m trying tomorrow has them in.... they seem to know nothing about it when i rang yesterday grr..

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 13 Feb 2011 13:30

cheers @brickzone, yeah by buying in art n hobby, you effectively make a saving of 17% (if my calculations are correct!). they tend to overprice on the smaller sets so i'd stick with smyths/argos for those ones, but the bigger sets are priced the same in art n hobby so it's well worth getting the likes of the pharaoh's pyramid and hogwarts castle there to maximise the savings, the voucher/loyalty scheme they have is a very nice incentive to shop there. can't wait to get my hands on a white boba, just gotta wait a few more days! :)

Posted by ensign_dave in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 13:34

@wayno23 - I got 6 with 6 battle packs.

Posted by wayno23 in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 13:43

^ good man! Hoping for the same tomorrow :)

Posted by Kotton in United States, 13 Feb 2011 14:34

Anyone looking to trade or sell for a reasonable price, hit me up! Kotton.David@gmail.com

Posted by yys4u in United States, 13 Feb 2011 22:12

WOW! What a great deal for the UK fans! I wish this were here in the US...
SO if anyone gets extras and wants to trade/sell hit me up also, I got plently of series 2 spartans and others as well as series 3 elf's and samurais, and a couple random extras.

I guess this is what we US fans deserve since we're always getting diff TRU sales and stuff

Posted by avacadoturban in United Kingdom, 14 Feb 2011 07:35

Bad news for those in and around Salisbury - phoned Smyths this morning and spoke to the very nice manageress, who told me that the last one had been given away yesterday (Sunday) and that they don't have anymore on their order/delivery invoices for the rest of the month (February).

Looks like Smyths stores (at least the Salisbury one) only have a single delivery/box of the Bobas, so if you live near another Smyths then you'd better get there bright and early for all your Boba Fett needs.

Who knows, maybe TRU will get them as a promo over the Summer with the new SW sets ...

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 14 Feb 2011 09:32

^ The 'Brickset effect' was probably responsible for them being cleared out so soon!

If it's any consolation to those without one, the fig is a cheap Chinese plastic job, although I think the helmet may be proper Danish.

Posted by atkinsar in United Kingdom, 14 Feb 2011 13:45

As seems to be the case with these offers, thestore you go to and even who you speak to at the store seems to get a different response. I called the Castle Vale store today and they said the offer would not start until Wednesday, and may even possibly only be on for the Wednesday.

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 14 Feb 2011 14:34

I visited the Salisbury Smyths this afternoon (Monday 14th at about 4:30pm). The chap at the check out had to do a bit of searching, but he found me a mint, sealed white Boba, so, no, they didn't give away the last one yesterday, despite what the manager said.

Posted by avacadoturban in United Kingdom, 14 Feb 2011 14:59

Congrats. bluemoose! It's one thing from one employee and something entirely different from another. Hopefully this means that they've got more in, or that you scored the 'final Fett' ;)

Posted by the_isolator in United Kingdom, 14 Feb 2011 15:56

Has anybody visited the Sheffield branch yet, just wanted to know if it would be worth taking a trip there this Wednesday?

Posted by lego_nutt in United Kingdom, 15 Feb 2011 02:38

hi, i went to the Belfast branch yesterday and they had a box of these boba fett's, but marked on the top of the box was "Promotion does not start until 16/02"....so they where not going to give me any, but i turned on the charm, and i managed to get 4 of them :o)

the other interesting thing was the manager appeared to know nothing about the promotion - they where not even sure what lego you had to buy to get one of these, and as some comments state above, it is not widely advertised.

Fortunately i was able to tell them that any lego purchase was enough to have one thrown into the bag FOC thanks to Brickset (they didn't believe me though lol, and the manager told the check out girl to throw them in anyway to get rid of me aas the queue was getting longer and longer - persisitence does pay afterall)

Posted by emzex in Russian Federation, 15 Feb 2011 04:19

With everyone here seemingly already getting theirs, I'm surprised there are only two UK sellers on BL with white Fetts. And you don't want to look at their prices. Crazy!

Sigh. Is anyone willing to pick up one or two for me and ship it to Russia for a reasonable price? The only friend of mine in the UK lives 80 miles away from a Smyths. And I'm sure we'll never have these Bobas here, EVER.

Posted by Pulpdiction in United Kingdom, 15 Feb 2011 12:29

Went into the Telford branch today and no one had a clue what I was talking about, they'd never heard of the offer.

Posted by wayno23 in United Kingdom, 15 Feb 2011 12:51

Nearest branch to me (40min away) said the offer starts tomorrow HOWEVER he said only with starwars games purchases???? rang another store again just over 40min away and they know nothing about this prom??? LOL??????

Posted by db99 in United Kingdom, 15 Feb 2011 15:18

Just been in the Speke branch and they were selling them for £2.99 just along with the normal lego star wars sets

Posted by wayno23 in United Kingdom, 15 Feb 2011 15:20

Db99 - did you notice how many were left?

Posted by db99 in United Kingdom, 15 Feb 2011 15:22

There were about 4. That would have been about 5.30pm. Shop was quiet though so half decent chance they might have them left first thing tomorrow. Or they may have had more stock - i didnt ask

Posted by wayno23 in United Kingdom, 15 Feb 2011 15:37

:| not good... they are SO usless there! twice i have rang! now not sure whether to make trip over there?

Posted by db99 in United Kingdom, 15 Feb 2011 15:58

Id ring them first thing, explain exactly where they are as the staff probably havent got a clue what they are (just loose with the lego star wars sets) and ask them to reserve them for you if they have any. Im sure they wouldnt mind

Posted by MinifigureMan in United Kingdom, 15 Feb 2011 16:35

No! The only one near me is an hour away and even if I got there, I bet they would have run out. :(

Posted by Darthblaker74744 in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2011 03:01

would any one be willing to trade me one?

Posted by wayno23 in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2011 04:31

Arghhh non left.... the fustration! think i`m crossing over to the dark side!
anyone wishing to sell me one?

Posted by weirdduck in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2011 05:05

Castle Vale Smyths have one box, one per customer, any Lego purchse. They intend to be very strict apparently in sticking to this. We will see!

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 16 Feb 2011 08:04

Got my white boba in smyths today, yay! They had a sign with a picture of it, saying free with any Lego Star Wars purchase. I think it also said, in small print, offer valid til 29/6/11, so maybe stock will be replenishing til the end of June?! Probably too good to be true, I'd say it's while stocks last, but you never know! :)
P.S. I could be wrong about that date, was so excited when I saw the offer on show!

Posted by atkinsar in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2011 08:29

I'm going to Cardiff this weekend for the Lego store opening, I'll check in the Cardiff branch of Smyths at the same time. I can't be bothered making a special trip mid-week to a store that is an hour away when the customer experience seems to vary so much from store to store.

Posted by Darthblaker74744 in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2011 10:40

@atkinsar: would you be willing to get me one, I have ordered a lego Max Minifig, maybe we can trade?

Posted by vagabondnma in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2011 11:34

I rang Oldham the other day and they confirmed it started on Wednesday. So I went to Oldham today (wednesday) at dinnertime. Most of the staff didn't know about the promotion but the girl on Customer Services did. She knew where the box of Bobas was kept! She said they had only had one box delivered. I saw the box and would estimate there were 50 to 100 in there. They are only given away with Star Wars Lego purchases. There is a sign in the aisle with the Star Wars Lego - it says the promotion lasts until June. But I would expect it to be a WTGTG deal. I'd expect they will have enough until weekend but I wouldn't leave it too long.

As for the figure, it is the same quality plastic as the Ninja keyring Lego were giving away - i.e. cheap. So I wouldn't get too carried away if you can't get one.

Posted by Pantboy in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2011 12:16

went to the castle vale store today, was told one item per customer only with a lego star wars purchase, woman who served me said she was surprised how few had been given out today, she expected hoards of people so she let me have 2 with 2 battle packs, so castle vale still had loads at 4.30 this afternoon

Posted by dfenz in Ireland, 16 Feb 2011 12:34

I was advised by one Irish Smyths store manager that they had received 100. As noted above the promotion is supposed to run until June but I suspect supplies will run out within a week unless there is replenishment. I wasn't restricted to one per customer. The store manager this morning was originally unaware of the promotion and had to make some enquiries.

Posted by atkinsar in United Kingdom, 16 Feb 2011 15:41

@Darthblaker74744, no promises, except I promise to try :o)

Posted by Kotton in United States, 16 Feb 2011 20:28

Posted by Jono in United Kingdom, 17 Feb 2011 05:01

I went to the Birmingham Smyths this morning and got one with a battlepack. There seemed to be quite a few left. The assistant who served me told me that people were coming from 'far and wide' to get them.

Went to Castle Vale (Brum) Smyths yesterday, one per customer, being strict, but I managed to blag 2, had a £5 off voucher as well, so 3 Battle Pack and 2 White Boba's for £25. Telford had not received stock when I went in on Wednesday.

Posted by Super Robot Wars in Ireland, 18 Feb 2011 17:52
