To coincide with Toy Fair New York, starwars.com has published some good quality pictures of some of the summer 2011 Star Wars sets. You can see them here - click on the picture to start the slide show. Make sure you click all the way through to the end to see the new Millennium Falcon set.

No sign of the new 'Naboo Fighter' or 'Hoth Echo Base' sets, confirming that they are likely to be retailer exclusives. (Update by Huw: the Naboo Fighter is in the UK retailers' catalogue but wasn't at the London toy fair).

The figures look great, and there are some nice parts and construction techniques in the new sets, but I'm left a little underwhelmed overall, probably because most of them are re-dos. Great for the newer collector, a bit ho-hum for the old-timer.

Update: I've added them here, while bluemoose was typing this -- Huw :-) (thanks r4-g9 and afhaddad for the news).

Eh? :P It's February, and ALREADY we have OFFICIAL images of SUMMER 2011 Star Wars sets?!? :P Weird. :P Still, the sets look AWESOME! :) Hm, nice technique for a halberd in the Nightspeeder set! :)

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 13 Feb 2011 10:55

WOW, looks like Lego decided their previous price hikes for SW were not enough...
140 for a falcon?? 70 for a Sith infiltrator?? Wow...I mean I understand that Lego needs to make money, but this is getting out of hand...

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 11:00

I am eager to see the insides of the Falcon and the Frigate, not too long to wait now hopefully!

Posted by Murdoch17 in United States, 13 Feb 2011 11:03

The older 2007 Infiltrator was around $60USD if I remember correctly. So $10 for the new Sith Infiltator isn't much of an increase.... I think.

Posted by water jedi 17 in United States, 13 Feb 2011 11:14

@Murdoch17 the 2007 infiltrator was $30 usd. As for the sets, they're pretty average besides the podracers and new figures. And does anyone else think the new leia looks ugly?

Posted by thesub in United States, 13 Feb 2011 11:21

Wow! Amazing! Great Job Huw! I can't wait to get the pod recers and the sith infiltraitor. The new minifigs are awesome! Just a suggestion: could you put some of the sets in sub themes now that you have the pics? thanks!

Posted by Ypres in Canada, 13 Feb 2011 11:31

Yeah, I'm not that amazed either... however since I am a Lego/Starwars fan I'll try to get a few. I think the biggest sell-factor this time around are the new minifigs, simply because the ships themselves don't appear anything special. I'd never even think of buying the falcon! I own 3 of the UC's and one of the old play-able ones (which looks a lot like the new one)! Well the bright side is that I'll have plenty of time to wait for sales on these and they'll be no hurry to buy.

Posted by cs38135 in United States, 13 Feb 2011 11:34

I am likely going to buy Ewok Attack. The new ewoks look great! I wanted to get the Millennium Falcon, because I've never gotten one before. Since it's 140 dollars, forget it.

Posted by Seagull in United States, 13 Feb 2011 11:35

Argh... they just HAD to change the speeder bike again, didn't they??

Posted by MinifigureMan in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 12:02

No, now I absolutely cannot wait! The all look so cool!!!! Luke's hair and Leia's face and hair look odd, I thought for Han's blaster he would have one of the new small pistol ones as they look like his.

Posted by Tom_2772 in United States, 13 Feb 2011 12:06

Looks like the Infiltrator is the new Slave I. I 'll probably just go with the pod racers. Not to big a price hike and it's nice to see some love shown toward episode 1.

Posted by eMouse in United States, 13 Feb 2011 12:09

There are pics of the LEGO show room at Action Figure Insider, though a number of boxes have the 'confidential' watermark on them, which makes me hesitant to post a direct link here.

It doesn't look like they were discouraging photography at all, as one of the pictures show three people standing at the display holding up cameras.

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 12:17

I'm with you, Huw - this is definitely a selection for the new generation rather than old timers like us ! I already have up to 6 older versions of most of these sets so I'm a little underwhelmed.... That having been said, I do like the new Podracers very much, and the new Sith Infiltrator is also cool. The Falcon doesn't seem any better than 4504 from years back, however, and I prefer the Republic Frigate in red like the old version.

Posted by Berrybrick in United States, 13 Feb 2011 12:18

Luke and Leia are creeping me out! No Harry Potter yet?

Posted by Zacherano in United States, 13 Feb 2011 12:19

The minifigs all look really great, but at $140 USD, there's no way I'm buying the Millennium Falcon now - the midi-scale is enough for me, and I've got older versions of all the figures.

$70 is extortion for the Sith Infiltrator - that actually looks to me like the worst design of the bunch, although they all look pretty good. As a newer SW collector, I'm definitely going for the Ewok attack, podracers, and Geonosian starfighter - I'll have to see about the rest. It's hard to resist the minifigs in the Republic Frigate though....

Here are some pictures of the three new HP sets.

Posted by ensign_dave in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 12:25

If you search google for the millennium falcon at the New York toy fair there is a great video that's just been posted on you tube. You can see it open up "flower petal style". Other details are:

It includes the chess board & Luke's training room
The boarding ramp comes down
The landing gear doesn't retract though
The gun spins undernieth
The gunners station you can place both Han & Luke
The smuggling apartment fits 1 figure and also drops out undernieth the falcon.

The set will retail at $139.99 and comes out Aug 2011.

@Zacherano That website goes on and off. You should try to get in in a few minutes or so.

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 12:31

@Zacherano - brickipedia's information is often a "best educated guess" & should be treated with care until official announcements are made.

Posted by Zacherano in United States, 13 Feb 2011 12:34

To supplement the link given by cs38135, I managed to determine that the Knight Bus will be $35, with three minifigs, the Forbidden Forest will be $12 with four minifigs, and the Battle of Hogwarts is of course $50 with seven minifigs.

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 12:34

Usually direct from LEGO when they announce it.

@DrDave - you shouldn't blame Huw for my comments ;-)

Posted by cs38135 in United States, 13 Feb 2011 12:39

You guys should check out Eurobricks for updates. They had these Star Wars and Harry Potter links posted a while ago. Zacherano is correct about the HP sets, they aren't too expensive and they have plenty of minifigs. (Unlike some of the new SW sets)

Posted by LeiaR2D2 in United States, 13 Feb 2011 12:56

@ water jedi 17: YES! I agree with you about Leia! She looks ugly! :( That's VERY disappointing for me because Princess Leia is one of my fav characters!!! :( What was Lego thinking?!? Leia NEVER wears that much make-up and the hair is weird-sorta. She looks like a clown! :( I'm so disappointed...... Luke looks okay but somethings off...Is it the new hair? The Falcon looks awesome! And chewie has black dots for eyes! :)

Padme looks fine but has anyone noticed that her face looks like Hermione's? (HP) You'd think Lego could come up with a face JUST for Padme... Qui-Gon looks um..well....kind weird.
Obi-Wan looks so cool! Watto, Wald and Sebulba look awesome too!

I can't believe that they changed the speeder bike AGAIN!! The ewoks are cool but one looks like an army ewok! :)

Everything else looks pretty awesome except for a few creepy minifigs here and there....

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 13 Feb 2011 13:01

@cs38135: That link is riddled with watermarked boxes! But anyway, good news: The Alien Conquest humans STILL have trans-clear visors! Fingers crossed...

Posted by BrianOg in France, 13 Feb 2011 13:01

hmmmm, is this Falcon much different to the previous minifig version? I've got the midi version and find that the lines are much nicer on it than on any of the minifig versions. The problem with minifig Falcons seems to be that the cockpit pod just HAS to be SOO big (in order to fit 2 figs in it) that it inevitably looks ridicoulously huge compared to the rest of the ship. To put it in perspective, it seems like the UCS version is in scale, and its cockpit is pretty much the same size as that of the minifig versions, whose fuselages are tiny in comparison. What do you guys think?

Posted by legoisawesome in Canada, 13 Feb 2011 13:08

i don't know about prince leia's hair its ugly.....thought lukes hair lookes good

Posted by sudorum in United States, 13 Feb 2011 13:15

A disappointment. The infiltrator looks like a simple plank attached to a mainframe.THe falcon is merely an overpriced, downgraded version of the 4505 variety, with the only good attribute being the Luke Skywalker. The republic frigate is the greatest loss. It's a veritable clone of the republic cruiser released in '07.
Nowadays, it seems the creators of the star wars brand throw pieces together based off of plans from older sets, while rare minifigures are thrown in to force a buy. Frankly, I'm a bit sick of buying star wars legos for the figures instead of the ships. The Geonosian starfighter is a prime example, containing well crafted characters with a wimpy ship stashed in the background. It makes one wonder what the exorbitant prices are based off of.
The pod-racer set, unfortunately, is the only glimmer of hope in this series of failures.

Posted by Greyface in United States, 13 Feb 2011 13:45

Meh for me... Hey, can we get some HP pics?

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 13 Feb 2011 13:49

Thanks for the photo links everyone! :)
I kind of like the way Leia has different hair (even with the darker brown colour, which I'm not a major fan of in minifigure hair), it's nice to have an alternate version of her. Luke's hair is the best, but the downward angle of the photo makes it look a bit weird.
OT: I see the Knight Bus does indeed have a glow-in-the-dark minifig head as the shrunken head!

Posted by MinifigureMan in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 13:58

@ensign_dave-Thanks for that! I saw it and it looks awesome!

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 13 Feb 2011 14:02

@LukeSkywalker: Glow-in-the-dark? :P It looks like sand green. :P And it looks like a 1x1 round brick. :P

EDIT: It IS a 1x1 round brick. :P

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 13 Feb 2011 14:12

@Alemas I stand corrected, my bad! :) My imagination got carried away again. Nice to see that it's a physical piece, even though I like it as a print on the original knight bus too. The superhero versions of Spongebob and Patrick look brilliant - and the red raygun, and brown and blue icecream pieces! :)

Posted by Greyface in United States, 13 Feb 2011 14:12

@LukeSkywalker and Alemase - Yes, there is some contradiction in the photos... I hope Ace from FBTB posts more pics soon, the ones I looked at were very, very shoddily-taken.

Posted by TBOC in United States, 13 Feb 2011 14:27

I'm going to get like 5 of the Forbidden Forest Sets, it's only $12, and has Harry, Hagrid, Voldemort and Narcissa Malfoy. I think I'm going to get all of the HP sets this year...

Posted by MinifigureMan in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 14:56

Having seen the HP sets I am put off unless they are cheap. Like the 2009 Echo Base was not the base, just a trench, I think the Battle should be A Battle In Hogwarts or rooftop fight or something, and the FF should be duel, fight or encounter in the FF. Again the names are exaggerating the content.

Posted by mmf72lego in Netherlands, 13 Feb 2011 15:53

Great sets!
I myself am very much awaiting for the Darth Maul minifig.. Looks like he's got real horns this time!?
Bet u the Europe prices wil be going UP to though :-(
By the way there is very nice clippwork on the Falcon to be found on Youtube. I'll give you a hint, just look for the NY fair plus the release year...

Posted by avacadoturban in United Kingdom, 13 Feb 2011 16:08

Loving this! All those brilliant pictures - the Falcon looks excellent (the only drawbacks appear to be no life/escape pod and no retractable landing gear - easily modded), as does the Republic Frigate (especially that conference/command room with the frigate specs sticker).

The Geonosian fighter looks good (mainly to get some Geonosian guards for the original winged one), and the Sith Infiltrator is looking better to me by the minute.

Posted by tman684 in United States, 13 Feb 2011 17:13

Is it just me, or does chewbacca look different??????,
P.s. @avacadoturban, where are the pictures of the inside of the Republic Frigate???

Posted by rockman in United States, 13 Feb 2011 17:28

ummmm so why does darth vader come with the millenium falcon?

Posted by Berrybrick in United States, 13 Feb 2011 17:32

Hey, I think that the lightsabres that looked green are green-yellow again!

Posted by Greyface in United States, 13 Feb 2011 17:49

@ALL - FBTB's flickr stream is being updated as we speak. Check there for great pics as they're coming in! http://www.flickr.com/photos/fbtbnet/

Posted by aragorn_10 in United States, 13 Feb 2011 18:12

I saw these pictures on starwars.com no less than two hours ago. I am really looking forward to the release of these sets, even though they do seem a bit overpriced. I better start saving up!

Posted by Greyface in United States, 13 Feb 2011 18:30

@aragorn_10 - Oh, no, I was talking about pics from other themes.

Posted by skipper1011 in United States, 13 Feb 2011 19:07

I am pretty sure that I will get AT LEAST one of these. The Dathomir Speeder and the pod-racer sets look the best IMO. Am I the only person who notices that Anakin and Ventress have new bodies. Is that a hologram I see on Yoda.

Posted by durins in United States, 13 Feb 2011 21:48

Dang, still no Hoth. Something tells me it'll include 2-1B and maybe K-3PO, both of which I've recently bought on Bricklink. Here's hoping not.

Posted by Orthobotrex in Philippines, 13 Feb 2011 21:58

@LEIAR2D2 - Qui Gonn looks like Jesus, somewhat...

I'm reminded of the question's from the last survey. Now that we have actual pictures to comment about, maybe
there'll be newer inputs.

I'm just wondering about some of the Hasbro sets shown there...I wish TLG could also do those. I really like the clone speeder, except the controls.

Posted by Carl in New Zealand, 13 Feb 2011 22:02

these look fantastic! will be getiing all of these except the millenium falcon
the minifigs are probably the main driving force behind me wanting to get the sith nightspeeder though...

Posted by Carl in New Zealand, 13 Feb 2011 22:03

still no pics anywhere of the naboo starfighter and the hoth base? (sets, not minifigures)

Posted by Blackicep8ntball in United States, 13 Feb 2011 22:28

I know it's been said already, but it's something that can't be said enough, since the more it's out there, the more likely TLG is to make the necessary changes:

THESE SETS ARE WAAAY OVERPRICED again. And the stickers are just getting out of hand. I tried giving stickers a chance, kinda backing off my hardcore anti-sticker stance for a while, but they're just a HUGE pain. They come off when they're stored with other Lego pieces, they're hard to put on... ugh.

But as with the Slave I, the UC Jedi Starfighter, and Lego Universe, if the Lego fan community speaks with their wallets and is slow to buy these, we'll see the prices drop very quickly.

Posted by durins in United States, 14 Feb 2011 00:35

Just took a closer look at the prices of the SW sets. Other than the Falcon, I'll be concentrating on my City set-up this year. Wow.

Posted by duilim in Australia, 14 Feb 2011 02:00

@Blackicep8ntball - totally agree with you. Problem is, if we're slow to buy, chances are that we may miss out on these sets and have to pay even more ridiculous prices on ebay for them. You'd need the entire Adult Lego community to boycott these marked up products and I don't see that happening unfortunately.

Understand what people are saying about these re-released sets, but for people like me who missed out on the previous millenium falcon, it's a good chance to finally pick up one without having to go on ebay where you end up paying even more for a used set.

On another note, the new HP pics of the Knight Bus and Forbidden Forest are up on fbtb. Hate to say it, but both are really disappointing. The Forbidden Forest is only a small set, with no new minifigs (it's Belatrix, not Narcissa!!) and the purple of the Knight Bus looks off! Plus, the design is less than impressive to say the least.

The interior on the Towers of Battle of Hogwarts isn't great either. It looks like it's Gryffindor tower all over again (except that it's the Astronomy tower - with Gryffindor colors for bunk beds whilst the second tower looks like Filch's office on one level, and an empty space on the other! What ever happened to Ravenclaw Tower???? Surely it can't be that hard to add a bit of Blue and Yellow to this set!!!

Posted by LegoAdventures in Australia, 14 Feb 2011 02:36

duilim, i agree,
I'm not sure what i feel about the new Harry Potter sets. The Knight Bus looks ... honestly disgusting and the design ... well you get the point. Mini-figures however look to be appealing. The Forbidden Forest i suspected to be bigger however isn't to bad, and the Battle for Hogwarts also not to bad.

Posted by Blackicep8ntball in United States, 14 Feb 2011 09:50

@ duilim: you're right, there is a small risk that you may miss out. But, it only took TLG a couple months to reduce the USC Jedi Starfighter by 25% on the Lego website, and since the sets usually run a full year plus before they're relegated to the secondary market, if people boycotted for a few months, you could see reduced prices and still not have to pay Ebay sums.

Posted by blazetrooper501 in United States, 14 Feb 2011 11:10

Looks like brickset lied about a new naboo fighter and new echo base oh well.

Posted by MinifigureMan in United Kingdom, 14 Feb 2011 11:17

@skipper1011-Sorry, but no. Maul and Opress have new horns as well.
@blazetrooper501-They haven't, as said, they have apparently been confirmed just not been shown yet.

Posted by 6044 in United Kingdom, 14 Feb 2011 14:11

Its weird the way maul has a new head and a hood. Would the hood fit on the head?

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 14 Feb 2011 14:12

What I find funny is the price of the Slave 1.. which does not sell unless the store puts them down to 60-65 dollars..
It is so laughable..
I will not buy Lego SW for figures, since Lego has also made it clear that sought after figures will most likely appear as a magnet set anyway.. and if you are not playing with them, who cares if they are made in China or glued (although you can apparently remove the glue fairly easily)...
Prices are just too high, and with a lot of retailers hiking prices, and refusing to put them on Sale (I am waiting for Walmart to start this) OR you have 3 eBay jackholes that sit there and buy 80 of a set via Lego when they go on sale, causing Lego to sell out, and put them up on eBay anyway.. so the debate of waiting and missing out is true but If everyone decides to list these on eBay then the prices will not go up on them anyway... Which has occurred with the 8403 Townhouse (Thankfully) and other sets... I mean if you need a Pig farm I am pretty sure you can get one from under retail via eBay...
And I do not think Lego is going to limit much in the way of runs on these SW sets.. MILK THAT COW....

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 14 Feb 2011 14:42

blazetrooper501 said "looks like brickset lied about a new naboo fighter and new echo base"

I'm not sure what you mean, but it's hard not to take offence at that. If you mean "we lied" because those two sets aren't shown at toy fair, then I have to ask if you actually read what we've said about these sets before throwing around these accusations? As we posted right at the top, these sets are likely "retailer exclusives", which aren't shown at Toy Fair. Toy Fair isn't for the public. Toy Fair isn't to announce sets. It *IS* to sell sets to general toy retailers; there is no point showing sets that are destined to be 'exclusives' (either LEGO-only exclusives, or exclusive to a particular retailer like Toys'R'Us or Target) because the toy retailers who visit Toy Fair won't be able to order them for their stores.

Posted by Aurelius in Czech Republic, 14 Feb 2011 14:51

I just don't know why americans are complainig about prices. Someone here wrote that new millenium falcon for 140 dollars is overpriced. Well, I had to pay equivalent of 250 dollars for the 2004 Falcon. That is way overpriced.

Posted by MinifigureMan in United Kingdom, 14 Feb 2011 16:31

@bluemoose-I agree, Brickipedia doesn't lie, either the members do or the information was an un-reliable source. As I said earlier, and said by many people, they just haven't shown the photos yet.

Posted by cs38135 in United States, 14 Feb 2011 17:30

@Aurelius - 250 is very harsh, but you can't blame Americans for complaining. 140 USD for a 1200 piece set is more than what we are used to. Regardless of the prices in other parts of the world, Lego is still making SW more and more expensive, and that's a good reason to be annoyed.
