In almost-related news, if you have a Borders near you that's being closed, their clearance sales started today at 20%. Borders stores carry a limited selection of sets and books.

Posted by Legocityfanatic in United States, 19 Feb 2011 22:50

more like 30% at their prices.

Posted by Legocityfanatic in United States, 19 Feb 2011 22:58

@Emouse, I never heard of Borders, where are they located?

Posted by Zrath in United States, 19 Feb 2011 23:07

Use the Web, Fan! :)

Posted by natro220 in United States, 19 Feb 2011 23:09

Legocityfanatic, Borders is the 2nd largest bookstore in the country who also sells some other things like Legos. They went bankrupt this week and are closing many stores.

I'm going to try for a Fire Brigade/Emerald Night combo online at TRU...we'll see if they magically become unavailable at midnight. At least those sets aren't marked up beyond MSRP...

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 19 Feb 2011 23:10

@ Legocityfanatic - If we're talking MSRP, then you're about right, as many sets at Toys R Us would be more like Buy One, Get One 35 % Off.

Posted by skipper1011 in United States, 19 Feb 2011 23:38

YES!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by 1265 in United States, 20 Feb 2011 00:13

Ordered two Emerald Night trains. Sweet!!!

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 20 Feb 2011 00:17

Drat.. Missed out on both the Emerald night trains AND fire Brigades..
Got two Cargo trains and two shuttle adventures though...

Posted by jaxswim in United States, 20 Feb 2011 01:12

Does this apply to anything? For example, could you get a Clone Battle pack and buy, like, the Death Star for 50% off? Or would it have to be something else normally $11.99 to get 50% off?

Posted by Orange Lemons in United States, 20 Feb 2011 01:16

^Excludes Star Wars and takes 50% off the cheaper set.

Posted by eMouse in United States, 20 Feb 2011 03:49

@Zrath: Borders has already purged the locations of their closing stores from their site.

@Legocityfanatic: The stores closing can be found on this list: http://www.bordersreorganization.com/Reorganization_Closure_List.pdf

Posted by stoneboys in United States, 20 Feb 2011 08:38

It annoys me that you can only get the cheaper set 50% off. So its really only a deal if you are buying multiple sets or if you are buying expensive sets.

Posted by Death Watch in United States, 20 Feb 2011 08:55

Can someone help? I'm a Lego City fan, and I'm trying to figure out what two sets would give me the biggest amount of savings. I don't have a huge budget, so rule out anything over $125.

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 20 Feb 2011 09:17

@ Deathwatch - that depends if you want to get the best deal or just save the most money. I myself usually look for the best deal because for most of us, Lego collecting is a marathon, not a sprint. As long as you buy 2 similarly priced sets, you'll be maximizing your discount at TRU. If you also try to find sets not marked up by TRU, like the City Public Transport and Shuttle adventure, you'll end up with the best discount off of MSRP, 25%, and save a total of $50. I usually use the all-inclusive offers to stock up on road plates and train tracks, but unfortunately they were all listed as Out Of Stock.

Posted by bmwlego in United States, 20 Feb 2011 09:19

For the younger members here who are unfamiliar with BOGO 50% off (Buy One, Get One) deals, they are a decent way to get sets on the cheap provided you buy similar priced items. For example, buy a $100 set and another set that costs roughly the same so you can save $50 on the 2nd set.

This helps us get the 2nd set at a great discount and helps the retailer because we are buying the 1st set at regular price. The retailer makes sure to advertise that the discount applies to the less expensive set to make sure we pay full price for the expensive set.

Death Watch-buy what you want but try to get similarly priced sets.
LEGO City Public Transport (8404) $99.99
LEGO City Road Rescue Garage (7642) $99.99 on sale for $69.99
so buy the Transport set for $99.99 and get the Garage which is another $99.99 set but it is on sale for $69.99 plus the 50% off and you get the $100 Garage for $35!

That would be a great deal to take advantage of. Or just buy another $100 City set like a Police Station or $85 Fire Station. Whatever floats your boat.

Posted by AZFIREWOLF in United States, 20 Feb 2011 09:44

The only thing that sucks about this bogo is that you are only allowed 1 bogo per transaction. So in other words it is not worth buying online. You are better off going into the stores and having them place orders for you if the item is out of stock. IE City Shuttle.

Posted by Death Watch in United States, 20 Feb 2011 09:57

@ bmwlego- Thanks, but I'm very familiar with BOGO sales. I've been a collector for 8 years now.

@ AZFIREWOLF- That's why you do the transaction multiples times, making sure you go to different registers. :)

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 20 Feb 2011 12:53

BOGO 50% Off online is limited to once per transaction. In store, the BOGO 50% Off will count multiple times per transaction and happily always in your favor.

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 20 Feb 2011 13:24

@yellowcastle: Great.. Now if I can just find a TRU store that has both the Fire Brigade AND Emerald Night!!!! :-)

@stoneboys: I mean based on that logic you could buy a Lego Public transportation center and a Series 3 mini figure and take 50% off of the Public transport center.... That will never happen, unless TRU wanted to go out of business...
@AZ FireWolf: Agreed it does stink for online transactions as you cannot buy any sets that combine to under 100 dollars and NOT get the free shipping... They should at least limit it to two(four sets) (which I thought TRU.com did once upon a time but stopped doing it)

I also noticed that their limits finally do limit, before it seems just as a suggestion, but apparently they updated their systems...

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 20 Feb 2011 15:03

S3 no longer seem to show up online at TRU but their search function has recently changed (for the worse).

Posted by teal93mr2 in United States, 20 Feb 2011 15:50

I'll be heading out there today. I am going to try and get 2 Cargo Trains, Train Station, Angler Attack, and maybe a few similarly priced sets. The wallet is definitely going to be a LOT lighter!

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 20 Feb 2011 16:15

Thanks for the notice. I'd go out and buy some, but my birthday is in some time and I don't want to end up with two of something. :-)

Posted by ApolloVI in United States, 20 Feb 2011 16:40

Has anyone seen any of the new City Space sets in-store at TRU other than 3367?

Posted by bernsa in United States, 20 Feb 2011 17:04

Stocked up on some Ninjago, Technic, and a few loose ends... Here's the shocker I saw today in Northern Virginia (Woodbridge and Springfield)... The Markup was non-existant and rolled back on most items that previously did have a markup.

Posted by Captain Blockbeard in United States, 20 Feb 2011 17:26

Excellent! I've been waiting quite a while for another BOGO 50% at TRU so I can acquire the last two NinjaGo sets that interest me. Looks like I'll be shopping at TRU later in the week.

Posted by eMouse in United States, 20 Feb 2011 18:07

@ApolloVI: Didn't even see 3367 in store.

Posted by 1265 in United States, 20 Feb 2011 18:35

Bought 8 of the the 7195 Ambush In Cairo sets. Must of been some left-over stock. Plus they were only marked at $9.99. Also, picked-up 8 of the 7567 Traveller sets. Nice that they were already discounted 30% off. Not bad BOGO 50% off for all those sets.

There were about 10 of the 7198 Garage sets, which were already marked at 30% off. So, with BOGO 50%f....it would be sweet deal. Just not sure if I need more of them considering funds allocated for future sets.

Posted by bmwlego in United States, 20 Feb 2011 18:56

@Death Watch
My explanation of BOGO wasn't directed towards you, just the bottom part of the post was for you.

@1265
Bought the Ambush In Cairo sets as well, great parts in there like the oversized barrel, purple slope things, brown baskets, apples, and figs.

Posted by ApolloVI in United States, 20 Feb 2011 19:45

@eMouse: Ah, I just assumed it was stocked in stores now since it's becoming available online. That's too bad, I'm dying to get the new Space sets, I was hoping to get them during this sale. Oh well.

Posted by TBOC in United States, 20 Feb 2011 20:09

Awesome, I was getting Hogwarts and Hagrids Hut on Friday anyway, even better.

Just a question: Does everyones Toysrus's have HP sets? I haven't been to mine in a year or so, so I don't know.

Posted by AZFIREWOLF in United States, 20 Feb 2011 20:12

TBOC - they have them, but they are few and far between at lease here in Phoenix.

Got some great buys today. Could have had a better selection if they guy that bought $1700 worth of product hadn't cleared out the store. Oh well I will be seeing those on ebay soon. Really soon. The ladies at the store were SHOCKED!! by the purchase.

Posted by teal93mr2 in United States, 20 Feb 2011 20:17

Well looks like they are out of stock on just about everything I want. Oh well maybe next time.

Posted by 1265 in United States, 20 Feb 2011 21:20

@ AZFIREWOLF What would he of got that would of make it worth buying all those sets? I was at a Lego store right after Christmas and a guy bought over $6000 of Lego sets. There is a demand and thus there is a business selling Lego toys.

Posted by AZFIREWOLF in United States, 20 Feb 2011 21:26

He bought a lot of the large sets I remember seeing the garage (4 at least), an imperial flagship, castles, TS, PQ, and a bunch of smaller sets. This guy also use to buy a bunch of magnet packs and then sell the figs for a huge profit. I saw him a few times at the local LS.

Posted by 1265 in United States, 20 Feb 2011 21:45

@ AZFIREWOLF Those garage sets are definitely worth it considering the already 30% off plus the BOGO. As I menitoned, I saw about 10 more of those sets at my local TRU but passed. For me it's more about where to put them than selling them. I have yet to sell a single Lego set...or a single brick. My wife says that I have an OCD of buying Lego and hoarding them. Could be some truth to that. : )

Posted by AZFIREWOLF in United States, 20 Feb 2011 21:59

1265 go on Bricklink. It helps with the OCD and then you can buy more sets to help your hobby become a job.

Posted by 1265 in United States, 20 Feb 2011 22:26

@ AZFIREWOLF Yeah, Bricklink is an option...but not for me. Collecting Lego is a hobby...not a job.

Posted by Death Watch in United States, 20 Feb 2011 22:38

I just saw that the Garage was taken off the site. :( Get it while you can.

Posted by LegoCity578 in United States, 21 Feb 2011 09:53

i managed to get the Lego City Smart Car for $2.50!

Posted by super12 in United States, 21 Feb 2011 10:24

1265... my wife said the exact same thing about OCD and hoarding... hope we dont have the same wife...

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 21 Feb 2011 11:46

@ super12 and 1265 - Glad to know I'm not alone there... :o)

Posted by flash0222 in United States, 23 Feb 2011 14:13

Website has some inventory now. Lego 8053 was added as available for online order where it wasn't before :) (technic Mobile Crane)

Posted by teal93mr2 in United States, 23 Feb 2011 14:41

Just ordered 2 of 7938 Passenger Trains for $226. Not totally a bad deal, despite the $10 markup. I really hope they get more Cargo Trains in before the sale is over. I had signed up for email alerts when 7938 become available, but they never sent one even though they were obviously in stock. I guess I will keep checking back and maybe they will get more 7939 sometime soon. It really irritated me that the website said my local store had both trains in stock and when I went up there, I was told that the only sets they had were the ones on display. What a poorly run business!

Posted by TBOC in United States, 24 Feb 2011 18:41

The sales still on till Saturday right? I'm getting some HP sets after school tomorrow.
Does TRU mark up the Series 3 minifigs to $4? or are they still $3?

Posted by teal93mr2 in United States, 24 Feb 2011 18:51

Last time I checked they were $4, so you would have to buy a few to get them back to normal price.

Posted by rocao in United States, 25 Feb 2011 04:26

They are $2.99 regular price at Toys R Us: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10978287
There may be quantity limit enforced, seemingly at each store's discretion. Also, some may keep them behind the checkout counter to discourage selective purchasing.

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 25 Feb 2011 11:41

@TBOC: Online they are 2.99 but sold out, and in the store they should also be 2.99.. But enterprising stores may have bumped it to 4 per pack because of the BOGO50

Posted by negativecreep in United States, 25 Feb 2011 16:37

The new Technic Supercar 8070 is now available at toysrus.com and qualifies for this BOGO 50% and free shipping . :)

Posted by TBOC in United States, 26 Feb 2011 13:05

I went there and picked up the last Hogwarts Castle, and I snagged a Hagrids Hut. They have a nice Ninjago center, and they have packs of cards. In each pack, you get one very rare card. I bought one for $3.50 and got the Flame Pit card, which had gold styling. I also got Zane. They had several Cargo Trains and Passenger trains, as well as Garages. When I asked about Series 3 Minifigs, they said they get one box and it was sold out. I went to my Borders the very same night, (My Borders is not closing) and they had several boxes of minifigs, and were attempting to label them, and let me pick out a few, including a correctly labeled Gorilla Suit guy and Hula girl. The minifigs there are only $4, so only a dollar more, and they still have loads of Series 2 also. Look for minifigs there.

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 26 Feb 2011 18:51

Hah Supercar... out of stock at Tru.com.. wow...

Posted by Ypres in Canada, 26 Feb 2011 23:51

Well the TRU in Canada is having buy any 2 (creator or starwars) get 25% off both. So yes, you could get any two priced sets from these themes and get both for 25% off. LOL, doesn't that just put it at US retail price anyway! Canadians have it tough... even though our dollar is worth more than yours.

Posted by d00dz in Australia, 27 Feb 2011 19:19

@negativecreep - where you able to get the Technic Supercar 8070 from TRU with the BOGO 50%??

Posted by negativecreep in United States, 28 Feb 2011 03:17

@d00dz - yes, I ordered 2 of them just before I posted on Thursday. I didn't realize they would sell out in a day. It was a pretty good deal though, 2 for $180 plus tax!

Posted by d00dz in Australia, 28 Feb 2011 22:21

@negativecreep Lucky you!
I want the set. :(

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 01 Mar 2011 01:33

@doodz: I am guessing that they will have more sales in the future.. who knows, there may be a BTGOF in the future..
