    Remember this book we mentioned in November that was given away to LEGOshop.com customers in the USA? Well it appears that the very same book (without the white Boba Fett minifig, unfortunately, or holes punched down the side) is being given away in Argos stores in the UK at the moment.

    A friend of mine at work went to the local branch to collect a LandSpeeder for his son today. When he did so, he was told he was a 'lucky random winner for a data book' of which there was one in the store, and was given it by the store manager. Luckily for me, his son is only three so has no use for the book, so he gave it to me. You might well be asking 'what's your friend doing buying a three year old a Star Wars set?' Well, between you and me, I think he's a closet AFOL :-)

    It's a very nice book: it's printed on glossy, thick card, around 12 pages long and features full page head-shots of some recent figs, line drawings of figs from recent sets and pictures of the sets they came in.  I'll post some photos later. It also has  the number '385' printed on the back. I don't know whether that indicates it's number 385 of some limited run, or something else. I guess we won't know until someone else gets one. Thanks Matt!

    Update: The Argos website now indicates that you'll get one of these when you buy certain Star Wars sets 'via a leaflet', presumably available in store, until 22nd March, so what are you waiting for: reserve online and get on down to your local branch this weekend before the 'Brickset Effect' strikes again! Thanks to the article commenters for this information.

The only reason I would want this set is for the White Boba Fett, so this has no use for me. Plus, I'm in the USA so I can't get it. I may buy a White Boba Fett soon, though.

Just spoke to a very helpful lady at Argos in Essex (won't give the exact store location just yet in case the "Brickset Effect" strikes and I can't get one)... apparently they are giving these books away but you HAVE to buy a Lego Star Wars set to qualify. Also checked out their website and, on the surface, it appears only the new 2011 sets are part of the promotion. Maybe worth phoning your local store to check they have stock before making the trip.

Looks like I'll be adding another couple of Battle Packs to my collection (after the recent White Boba Fett promo @ Smyths)!

Will update tomorrow when I've (hopefully) picked it up...

I hope this helps someone.

Just got back from my local Argos with a Mandolorian BP and the Star Wars booklet! It really is beautiful; absoulte quality. I can confirm that these don't appear to be individually numbered (mine has 385 stamped on the back as well), and when the Argos employee went to get me one she said it was part of their promotion, with the promotion code being 385.

Love the embossed Vader cover, and the full-page Boba and Grievous - worth the trip! I'm going to pair this one with a Smyths White Boba and pretend that LEGO sent me one as a fav. customer ;) lol

EDIT: Forgot to say (although it's on the Argos website too) that this promo is running until the 22nd March 2011. Based on this, it sounds like Argos have a limited supply of these. Let's get that 'Brickset Effect' going people!

If you check out thr Argos website you will see that certain sets have Free booklet in red on certain SW Lego products, the 2011 items only by the look of it.

I have just reserved 7914 Mandalorian Battle Pack. (I already have 7913 Clone Trooper Battle Pack) I will be picking the set up tomorrow. Just got to hope that they haven't run out.

Just bought the Imperial V Wing Fighter at the main MK store. Really had to convince the lady on the till to go and get me the booklet. They were in a drawer behind the collection counter. She wanted me to phone up a helpline if it wasn't in the box. The instructions to her through the till were "the bookelt can be found in box '385'" Agree with the comments, it is a really cool booklet. So glad I added this site to my RSS Feed yesterday.

Went to the hammersmith argos this morning. The guy on the desk didn't know anything about the book until I told him. He made a phonecall and said there was a leaflet in the box. I assured him there wasn't and after another phonecall he found the small number of books they have tucked away. It is a nice book and if you can get one it's well worth it.

Have also been to the westfield lego store this morning for their opening event. Got 3 sets of magnets and the free t-shirt. It's red and has on it a lego minifigure in the style of a london ceremonial soldier holding the flag of st george with the words lego store london. Also saw the routemaster bus they are giving away tomorrow.

Smyths is running the buy any Star Wars set and get free White Boba Fett. Just got 2 today. Lucky for me since I'm from the US and planning to leave London tomorrow. What a treat, since the US never has promos with the free Boba Fett and I do not want to spend $25 on Ebay.

Picked up a couple in Slough this morning. As expected, the staff didn't have a clue what I was on about when I asked about the free book giveaway. Eventually found them like CloudDog23's encounter - under the till I'd paid at. The small box I saw would fit no more than 30 in I'd say - about 7 or 8 missing from the top of the box when the manager found them (light-fingered staff).

Although most of the sets adverised online are indeed 2011 sets (with the exception of the Clone Turbo Tank), the promotion extends to any Lego Star Wars product. I tried my luck with two Snowtrooper Battle Packs on sale for £4.99.

I just got 7913 Clone Trooper Battle Pack from Argos, and had to make sure I asked for the leaflet / book. I can imagine they will only do a one per customer type of deal, because they didn't seem to have many.

The book is nice, it's just a promotional leaflet with glossy stiff card photos of some of the 2010 and 2011 Star Wars sets. It's a nice item though.

Just got back from Argos with one (Lowestoft Retail Park store).

The staff hadn't been informed of the promotion (as I'd expected) and after I'd told them it was on their site they looked for a leaflet that evidently doesn't exist and found a box of unopened books. Guess I was the first one.

The book itself is more about quality that quantity - not many pages it but is nicely printed, featuring the current line-up of SW sets.

I had a similar experience; I reserved a V-Wing last night, then popped into the Argos at Bedford Interchange Park this morning. I asked about the 'booklet mentioned on the website' when they gave me the set, & got a 'rabbit in the headlights' look back - they had no idea what I was talking about. A quick look on their computer system, a description from me, a rummage out the back & they found the cardboard box with them in :-)

Been to my local store and found out that they had 7 left in a box.The book itself, though not large with amount of pages is done very well and contains many beautiful images.

Argos are bloody useless, they told my wife twice they were in the box .

She went in to see if they were there. The counter woman at the checkout said yup they had some round the back... the woman giving the lego at the collection point, claimed it was in the box and wouldn;t budge on that statement... so my wife had to go back to the checkout counter.

She went back in for a second one thinking they would all know now (5 minutes later)
she paid, went to the colelction desk, where someone new handed her the box and said "its in the box" he refused to accept they were not in the box, when my wife said "i was in five minutes ago and had this same conversation till you got me a book from the back" so he trundles off..... "oh yeah here they are"... no apology, no fact of updating the other staff....
I thought the recent Smyths Whie Boba Fett promotion was badly organised with no stores knowing anything about it and no advertising.... but argos are just as bad!

So please all be warned, if they try and tell you it is in the box... it isn't!!!!

I just got a clone battle pack with the booklet and I MUST SAY IT'S A NICE COLLECTORS PIECE, good pictures for the minifigure and set lists. I do wonder, if these booklets were given out at comic-con or wherever, there is very high quality pics of the winter 2010/11 line and the event took place in around october so I'm surprised these pics weren't leaked or am I completely wrong?

Could someone please tell me how to get this freaking booklet?!?!
After spending a good 10 minutes convincing the staff that it was certainly NOT in the box, the box number 385 came up in the discussion which brought a glimmer of hope into my quest to find the book and apparently it had no leaflets and they were constantly trying to tell me that i was supposed to get a leaflet! Even going as far as to ring the distributors of the leaflet!
No-one even picked up because there is no leaflet! And no nearby stores had the non-existing leaflet too!
This is horrible customer service and the only intel they had about the promotion was the 1 line written on the website with NO other info, even on their own system! They probably had the freaking book somewhere but its not like the lady or the managers would know because they werent told about any part of the promotion!
Anyways could anyone please tell me how to get this booklet because clearly argos shouldnt even be the ones running the promo!

Managed to get one. Same problems as erveryone else tho. Staff didnt have a clue. Then when did some digging were convinced they were in the lego boxes. If you key in a new battle pack into the machines they have where you can pay by card as opposed to queueing at till it says on there how they are in box 385. I showed the staff member this and it seemed to work. He asked couple other staff and turned out the box was just sat on the shelves they put your picked items on at the collection points. Good luck

My trip into town was successful yesterday - the first person I spoke to had no idea, but when I explained that I'd already phoned ahead, someone else came to assist. Retrieved me a copy from the "back room"... I asked about the leaflet, but they said they take care of all that. Tried turning on the charm to see if they'd give me an extra one FOC, but it was a no... however, they did let me buy another item to qualify for another book. Relatively painless...

@primetime - agree with your comments above about quality vs quantity... it really is a sumptuous book - very tactile and some interesting images / page layouts.

Just got hold of one in Eastbourne. The staff were clueless as with everyone else, we had an argument about whether it was in the box (I got a Mando battle pack) or not. Then the manager came out and rectified the situation though, saying he was aware of the promotion, he went into the back room, grabbed a book and handed it over, all in all a successful morning!

Anyway, the book is wonderful, the printing is excellent and you really get a sense of quality I feel. The pages are as follows:

Cover - Black with embossed Lego studs and a nice image of Darth Vader.
1 - A whole collection of famous Darth Vader quotes (I have you now, all too easy etc.) on a thick piece of tracing paper.
2 - A large glossy picture of an injured Darth Vader as he appears in set 8096 Emperor Palpatine's Shuttle.
3 - A nice big portrait shot of a Clone Trooper with what I think is storyboarding from the online comics on the star wars website.
4 - Then a big thick page with portrait shots of the new General Grievous figure and the new Boba Fett.
5 - A gallery of recent Minifigures from 2011 and 2010 sets, probably my favourite page!
6 - The Minifigure gallery is finished and then there is a Lego Star Wars wish list with a black and white picture of Shahan Alama.
7,8,9 - Pictures of some of the more recent Lego Star Wars sets (new 2011 releases all the way back to the Freeco Speeder.)
10 - An advert for the upcoming Lego Star Wars 3 game.
Back Cover - Black with more embossed studs and the Lego Star Wars logo.

Walthamstow High Street in east London has two Argos stores. The first one I tried at the Saintt James Street end of the market didn't have any, and they did have a good look. But their colleagues at the other end did have a box. Unopened, but at least the manager knew what I was talking about.

What a trauma!! First read about this on Friday afternoon on here, so living about a minutes walk from Argos In Kidderminster I put on my shoes and walked down the road to investigate! When I got there and spoke to the lad on the counter he told me he had not heard about this offer, but on the computer there was a note to say it was under the counter in a box. He looked (and looked again at my request) but no they must have all gone!!

Then Saturday after reading Brickset again, I thought I'd chance my arm again!! Spoke to a girl this time who after thinking I was bonkers told me it was in the actual Lego box. After I told her it wasn't but she was still having none of it, and wouldn't even ask anyone else!!

Then....Sunday still undeterred I went in again. This time I spoke to another lad who went off straight away to find out, and came back with a copy for me to look at to make sure it was right(Hooray!) Looks like the staff have caught on!! So 2 battle packs ( You can never have enough clones!! Right!) and 2 books later I got there!

But as I was at the till, the girl from Saturday came over flipped through the book and looked up and said 'ooh thats nice!' Yes it is!!

Got one from Argos in Winchester, she automatically knew and got me one before the set came. A lovely book! But for the clone battle pack i think the ARF helmet looks great on the commander's body! Anyway, a fantastic book so don't hold back! The woman thought it was in the box and then found one and gave it to me.

Bought the Imperial v-wing online on the 24th and it arrived through the post yesterday...no flyer or leaflet or anything so nothing I can take to an argoos store to get the book :-(

@historynut - Take your receipt to an Argos. I'm sure they'll give you one. If not, phone customer services from the store and scream blue murder. If they have any left in store, I'm sure you'd come away with one.

I went to the Argos at the Merry Hill center on sunday. The staff there, though helpfull, knew nothing of the little black book. I bought the Mandalorian battle pack and when the assistant rang it up on the till she announced "Oh, it comes with a free book, i'll see if I can find it for you." No such luck! She took my details and said she would send me one when they came in. Got home from work tonight and book was waiting for me. Deep joy. Many thanks to the young lady for all her help.

Thanks to Guidance from this site I managed to educate the manager of my local branch who had the books but hadnt issued any due to lack of instruction. Apon purchase of a clone battle pack the computor flagged "give book"by which time the manager had found them..And its a great book very well crafted!
