Series 4 at TRU

  • Series 4 at TRU

Posted by Huw, 16 Mar 2011 18:55. Filed under Shopping (USA).

Cygnet has reported at his Ugly Duckling blog that TRU branches in the USA now have series 4 on the shelves.

He says: 'If you're in the US...Call 1-800-869-7787 , Press menu options 1, 3, and then 2. Ask the operator to check the availability of item 578074"

You can keep track of the global rollout and add your own sightings on his rollout map.

Update: Doh! I've just read on his blog that he got this information from comments made today to a news article here at Brickset. I really shoud pay more attention to my own site! There's links to pictures of the dots in the comments, too.

Update 2:  I've taken a snapshot of his U.S. rollout map (as of 3/17/11) and pasted it above for quick reference (YC)

Update 3:  They have hit the East Coast (3/22/11)

I just picked up a case at the Fred Meyer in Olympia WA. The figs were 2.99 and they had 8 cases when I left.

Posted by Carnigee77 in United States, 16 Mar 2011 19:56

The Lego Store Calender says they'll be available there on April 15th. Anyone know what the lego store price will be? I hope its still 2.99

All I need is a Crib sheet, and I'll be sitting on the store's floor the next day.

Found one box at the TRU in Topeka,KS. Bought 26 and got everything but the skateboarder. Not bad! The haz-mat guy is hands down the best minifig ever. I'm a bit partial though since I'm a haz-mat guy myself.

Posted by skherbeck in United States, 16 Mar 2011 22:17

let's keep things in perspective... there's no rush here!! Series 3 is still readily available at at great discounts! I just bought a box of S3 on EBay sealed for 156.00$ + free shipping and tax free. I'm waiting a month, then I'll get S4 2 boxes at great Prices! (But happy hunting to everyone who can't resist the Frenzy!!)

Is this a sight to help others find the figs or for bragging rights??
It seems like every post is "Found X amount at local TRU! I BOUGHT THEM ALL!!"
lol... its so frustrating!! they haven't hit my area yet (Orange county/San diego)

If they're hitting the States now, they should be in Canada in about three weeks (that's they way it seemed to be for series three). Odd... since we're right next door... Anyone in North Dakota with a good pitching arm to chuck them across the border?

GUYS you can buy a box on eBay for $180 (pre-order) the same seller has boxes going off for $130-150 auction. Auction winners pay 15.00 shipping, but buy-it-now is free shipping. This saves you gas money and tax. Go on eBay and search 'lego series 4' in buy-it/now option.

What's up with buying the entire box? Leave some for the rest of us!

Posted by beefygrefe in United States, 17 Mar 2011 12:51

@Morkman - given that Lego is mass producing these now (and sending significantly more to the states), there should be enough for everyone that wants to buy a box or two and still have plenty left over for everyone else. The MOA Lego store has had plenty of stock of S3 for 2 months now. To put that in perspective, we had S1 for 3-4 weeks and S2 for 6. Plus you can still buy S3 online from Lego, even though there's a limit. I'm on board for what joeyzbrown was saying about just getting them online. I'm sick of hunting for guys and I'm all about letting someone kick me a box, at hopefully a bit of a discount.

I found a box at Fred Meyer in Redmond, WA. There was another box there, as well as several Series 3 boxes.

Here's the contents of my box:
4x Soccer Player
2x Crazy Scientist
4x Artist
3x Viking
4x Kimono Girl
4x Street Skater
5x Punk Rocker
4x Sailor
5x Werewolf
5x The Monster
4x Surfer Girl
4x Hazmat Guy
3x Lawn Gnome
3x Hockey Player
3x Ice Skater
3x Musketeers

I've put together a bumpcode guide for Series 4. It may not be perfect, but it's pretty accurate. It's available here:

You can go on eBay and find boxes for about $150-180 that are sealed.. not in hand-- PRe-order, but eBay has a policy about pre-orders so I think I have gotten a good deal on a box from a known seller...

Plus like beefygrefe said, these will be around forever (or at least untl Series 5 comes out) I mean Lego.com still has them up on thier site and TRU has Series 3 as bogo for cryin out loud..
So to all of those tempted to pay 230 for a box of figs Id say wait..
Not to mention that if the Scientist really is only 2 per box, wait until the next run of these which will probably be back to three..
I guess what I am trying to say is DON'T PANIC

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 17 Mar 2011 14:04

@nicjansma: Thanks
Kinda silly for Lego to be pulling the whole 2 of a fig in a box thing again, but what can you do?
Hopefully they will 'fix the error' in the 2nd run like the fisherman.. it will not stop those from listing them for 20 dollars on eBay though :-(

Posted by Legodt in United States, 17 Mar 2011 14:56

I obtained a box of 60 this morning in Highland Park, IL. I am so happy to get a complete box, so that I don't have to purchase more to make sure that I have everything. Now, I can take my time to decode the packets.

Posted by The_Box in United States, 17 Mar 2011 15:39

according to a TRU associate from the one closest to me, there are no stores in a 50 mile radies that are eligible for Series 4. I live in central New Jersey. What is going on?

Posted by yys4u in United States, 17 Mar 2011 15:46

@the_box same thing happened to me, I'm in Southern California, only I called a couple different stores and there's none withing 100 miles.

So I ordered a box from TRU.com, came out to 195 with tax, and they have free shipping on orders over 75 bucks, why anyone would buy a box on ebay for 230 beats me. They have them on hand at the TRU warehouses and you wouldn't be supporting the resellers..

How do you know you'll get a box and not 60 random packets?

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, Mar 17 2011 11:37AM:
"I got a complete case of S2 from Toysrus.com when I ordered 60. :o)"

That's good enough for me. And with such a large order of 60, even if I didn't get a full box I stand a chance to get an even better distribution (i.e. 3 mad scientists instead of 2) Personally I'm really only looking for one complete set, and there's so many I want duplicates of that buying a box will suit my needs perfectly. I guess there is a small chance I won't get a full box and wont get a full set (highly doubt it) in which case I lose. But the way I see it, people at the warehouse get an order of 60, to them fastest way to fill that is just ship a box. Unless their stock is limited and they have to combine bags from multiple boxes, thats the only way I can see not getting a box, but since they just listed it online, I think I'm good.

Posted by paul88 in United States, 17 Mar 2011 16:21

Sounds like a plan, I'll post what happens :) I really can't be bothered with chasing these things since the closest TRU is an hour away and I've just about had it with hunting and spending gas $$$ already on transformers that I can never find :(

Posted by Tervlon in United States, 17 Mar 2011 16:26

As far as I'm concerned they can take forever to get here. I don't want to see them until April, I can't afford them!
I'm glad the distribution and quantity issues are mostly fixed. There are plenty of s3 at my Lego stores still. Perhaps I can take my sweet time on these.

Posted by xccj in United States, 17 Mar 2011 19:35

They had them at a Fred Meyers store in Vancouver, WA. Never seen figs in that store before, but there were two boxes that weren't picked through. Managed to grab a musketeer and hazmat suit guy. Its great to see that the availability for Series 4 figs.

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 17 Mar 2011 19:45

I don't regret buying mine off of eBay. I rather do that than try to get a sealed case from TRU.com. With series 2 and 3 people were complaining they didn't get a sealed case even though they ordered 60. At least this way I know what I am getting. For my friends in Phoenix, when I get my case on Monday, I will be glad to sell you any extras I have at cost or trade for series 1 mini figures ( wrestler, magician, zombie, spaceman, robot)

Posted by fairwater in United States, 17 Mar 2011 20:32

I stopped by Smiths Marketplace (Utah's version of Kroger/Fred Meyer). They had two boxes on the shelf. I grabbed 20 "randomly" from one box...When I got to the register, they took 10% because of a store wide sale. Ended up paying $2.70 each for them. That made me happy. Out of the 20 I got one of each except the Artist. Guess I'll head back and try again before they are gone. For you Utah people, this was at the Bountiful 500 S. Smiths.

Posted by copperwonder96 in United States, 17 Mar 2011 20:52

Looks like TRU and Lego are on the same page finally. I just got my 60 from tru.com, inventory still shows "available", series 3 is bogo and when Lego.com has series 4 there won't be a run on inventory. Take your time and get what you need, there will plenty for everyone! Woot!

Posted by jwsmart in United States, 17 Mar 2011 21:45

I called the 800 number listed on the Ugly Duckling's rollout map. No figures in my "region" yet. (I'm on Long Island) Based on the Series 3 rollout, my guess is that we won't see these in NY until next week- maybe Tuesday - but that's not going to stop me from checking my local TRU on Saturday.

Posted by Captain Blockbeard in United States, 17 Mar 2011 23:08

No Series 4 figures in Pennsylvania yet, but the aforementioned new NinjaGo polybag set(s) came in today's delivery so I picked up a couple to make my trip to the store not a complete waste.

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 17 Mar 2011 23:17

@paul88:
I have ordered packs from TRU before and if you order 60 packs you almost always get one box (not always in the box, but they dump a box into another box)

Also you can find people pre-selling them on eBay and you will pay about retail or under retail so shipping pegs it at that cost, and unless you are in a state of the seller you do not have to pay tax, so the shipping kinda takes play of the tax..
I got boxes for cheaper than I would have paid (albeit they are pre-order) and if they try to mess with me and just take my money and not send anything I just go to paypal and get my money back...
But If I can get them like that Id rather get the 60 and get it out of the way.

Posted by madforLEGO in United States, 17 Mar 2011 23:20

Also, TRU.com still has them and apparently plenty available online...
Again if you buy 60 I am pretty sure you will get a box (or at least the contents of one dumped into a shipping box)

Posted by jagdjh in United States, 17 Mar 2011 23:39

@Captain Blockbeard - You mentioned finding the NinjaGo set(s). Which ones are you finding and at what store? I am looking to find the white and blue ninja polybag sets.

Posted by Captain Blockbeard in United States, 18 Mar 2011 00:04

I found the Skeleton Chopper/Helicopter polybag set in the Harrisburg area. I wish the polybags with the blue and white ninjas would make an appearance. I need to check the other TRU stores closer to where I live (closer to Philadelphia). Meanwhile, the polybag with the red ninja was finally in stock in various southeastern PA Targets this week too. Now, we just need minifigures!

Posted by taffer1979 in United States, 18 Mar 2011 01:21

My TRUs in southern california still don't have them. I've been to 3 different ones out here. They all have series 3 which they keep behind the counter in the customer service area. They said because people steal and/or open the packs to see what in side. They look at me like I'm crazy when I check the dots on the packs, they only hand my a few packs at a time. Any other TRUs do this?

Posted by RPMKris in United States, 18 Mar 2011 01:26

@Captain Blockbeard... isnt the black plate with the 3 bars (handles) sticking out on the ninja chopper cool? I think this is a new piece exclusive to this set? I went back and picked up 3 more polybags just for those pieces, the extra bones will come in handy too...

Posted by yys4u in United States, 18 Mar 2011 01:48

@taffer1979 Wow, I'm in SoCal and I check TRU from Orange County to San Diego when I can. Apparently most of the TRU in OC wont get a new "truck" in till thurs but theres no guarantee they'll have the figs in by then. Also, the boxes are tapped with a message saying do not display till (whatever date) but of course people don't always listen to it, so it depends on the individual TRU who decide to open them and display them. I can assure you I'm calling and checking the 800 number regularly to find out who in SoCal has them first, but just in case I ordered 60 from TRU.com. Anyway, No I have not EVER been to a TRU that does what you say they do, but I only check a few within that area and ask them if they know of other stores in the area that has them, so I can see it definitely being true. Sounds pretty bad tho....I would hate to shop at that TRU...

Posted by beefygrefe in United States, 18 Mar 2011 13:04

Honestly, I'm really surprised that there were some in MN already. I'm not complaining, because I like that my state is now on the initial roll out list, but it makes it harder to gauge when they'll get here...before, they would usually be in IL and the next truck to my local TRU would have them.

Posted by teal93mr2 in United States, 18 Mar 2011 14:52

I called and they said they had them at the Babies R Us here in NC, but there were none there.

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 18 Mar 2011 16:04

I got confirmation earlier today that S4 minifigs are indeed at TRU's mid Atlantic warehouse but that they haven't been distributed yet. For those of us in the Northeast, I think we will start to see them in the next week or so, depending on your store's location and delivery schedule.

Posted by Captain Blockbeard in United States, 18 Mar 2011 18:44

@ RPMKris - I completely agree about the great parts in that set and for that reason will likely pick up more copies of the set. The new black piece isn't unique to that set since it also appears in the 30083 NinjaGo Dragon Attack polybag set and the $20 Ice Dragon set.

@ yellowcastle - That's great news that S4 are probably only a week away from appearing in TRU stores in the northeast. I was in no hurry since I'd rather have a proper dot code sheet with me when I search the box instead of buying blindly like I would have had they had some in stock when I checked earlier this week.

I just stopped into the TRU in Des Moines, IA yesterday and between my girlfriend and I, we bought 26 of the 40 that were left in the only box. Out goal was any Hazmat Guy and then one of each of the rest, we were able to get 15 of 16 plus 2 extra Hazmat buy doing a little feeling of the bags once we were back home, and then we returned the 9 unopened we had. We then went back and found the Surfer Girl which was the last one we needed. So over all just using the feel method alone we got 16/16 of the figures and 2 extra Hazmat Guys without any wrong openings. Good luck to everyone finding the figures they want!

Posted by jwsmart in United States, 21 Mar 2011 13:21

I called the TRU 1-800 number today - and all I got was a hard time.
I was told that they couldn't (or wouldn't) check on the item number because it was "not an advertised item".

I didn't have this difficulty on Saturday, so I'm wondering if I just got unlucky with the customer service rep, or if it's some sort of change in policy...

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 22 Mar 2011 12:16

@RPMKris - The MSRP for S3 was $2.99 so most Targets sold them at this price point. I assume S4 will also be $2.99 as that is what TRU is selling them for but that methodology didn't work for us with Meijers and S3.

@jwsmart - That's terrible. Hopefully, you just got a bad CSR. This is indeed an advertised item as it's been available on their website for a week.

@ All - S4 has hit the East Coast. Our local TRU received just one box today and it was devoured by 4 AFOL's who were swimming nearby. But they're likely to get more this week. Also of note, the shipping box contained only 1 box of 60 figures as opposed to previous cases containing 2 boxes of 60 figs. I wonder why the change?

My Local TRU (Lake Grove, NY) got a shipment of 2 boxes of Series 3 yesterday. I got way too excited when the person on the phone (at the store, not the 1800 number) told me they just got minifigures in... I never imagined they would be S3, just coming in now. They haven't had any in stock since December.

@yellowcastle - Which TRU are you referring to?

Found S4 in Maryland TRU. They were marked at $2.49!

Series 4 is at TRU in Winchester, VA...$2.69 a pack. You can get this price for online orders too if you call in the order and tell them about price not being correct (Series 3 shows as $2.69 for example).

Found Series 4 at TRU in East Brunswick, NJ for $2.69 a pack as well (current sale is 10% off the regular $2.99 price). There were plenty left this afternoon after I grabbed a full set of 16.

@Vedder1029, Which TRU did you get it for 2.49. I managed to find some at the TRU in Rockville, MD but they were 2.99?

Posted by RPMKris in United States, 23 Mar 2011 00:36

@Yellowcastle - You are correct as usual, I got my case of S2 @ Target for $2.99, my S3 were from Meijers @ $1.99 before Christmas, my mistake; my point being to @All - I think there will be plenty of S4 available for all, but alas, still none in Dayton OH; The past 2 weeks has been great for polybags though....

FYI: received my "case" from TRU yesterday and did NOT get a box :( I thought that I would be smart and order 65 so that I would get a full box then some random ones thrown in. I think it might have backfired though. I only got ONE hockey player and ONE skater!!! All 65 were just shipped in a regular old brown box. I really wanted multiple hockey players so this is kind of sad. I think I got about 6 or 7 Monsters, werewolves and soccer players. Oh, and there were like 5 hazmat guys so that was pretty cool. A high count (6 or 7) of the rocker too. LUCKILY, I did get a full set. I haven't decided what to do with the extras yet, as I really don't want the hassle of dealing with ebay.

@Paul88 - you can return it to the TRU store. so that others whom didnt get them can. The only thing with TRU policy is that you will get store credit when returning items from online purchases. But you can use the credit for perhaps finding more hockey players

Just picked up 5 minifigs at the TRU in Madison Heights, MI (Skater Boy, Surfer Girl, Mad Scientist, Painter, and Rocker). Dot codes are pretty accurate from here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jaredboehm/5534783243/ I work at that location and was first to grab any so there is still 55 left to pick over. The current sale does take 10% off at the register. Happy hunting.

@legotwins: Thanks, yeah I thought of doing that, but my nearest TRU is an hour away :( Also, not sure if I like the idea of store credit only (their online to in store policy), but I'm sure the money would end up back there eventually anyway so... :)

One thing I noticed about the dot codes was that the Hockey player dots on the left were MUCH closer together on the one I got vs. the cheat sheet that is up. They were close together like they are on the Surfer Girl.

Posted this in the UK section by mistake:
Stopped by the Huntington Beach store yesterday and they said they had two boxes and they all sold the same day they were put out. So S4 is on the western US.

Ok,
I was able to grab some from the TRU in Cerritos/Cypress. There was one S4 box and two S3 boxes. The S4 box was mostly full. Took about a half hour to go through it.

These ones seem a bit harder to figure out than the previous two series'. I was able to get the following:
1 Skateboarder
1 Surfer
1 Punkrocker-easy guitar
1 Sailor-easy eyeglass/scope
1 Wolfman-the bone is pretty tiny, hard to find
1 Viking-easy once you find the shield
1 Musketeer-easy once you find his hat
2 Geishas-more than easy
1 Mad Scientist- kinda hard to figure out, the bottle is tiny but his hair is squishy rubber

I also got a skater I think but she is going back. Still have to get another wolfman, frankenstein, and a few hazmat guys. This series is really cool.

I found them at the TRU at I-17 and W Dunlap in Phoenix. They only had one box. There were about 20+ packs left. Only 2 per person per day though.

2 boxes and received the box ratio. Toys R Us is accurate then. Of course, that means only 4 scientists... :(
