LEGO Collector book, second edition, now available for pre-order

  • LEGO Collector book, second edition, now available for pre-order

Posted by Huw, 19 Mar 2011 05:14. Filed under Miscellaneous.

The second edition of this must-have book for every LEGO collector is published at the end of April.

The first release was excellent, although not without a few errors. I'm sure these will have been addressed and of course the book will have been brought right up to date -- the first edition was published in 2008.

Here's the blurb from the publisher's site:

LEGO Collector - 2. Edition - with exclusive key ring - preorder

We are pleased to announce the release of the second edition of the LEGO Collector's Guide.

The new, improved and extended catalogue offers not only information about recently published LEGO sets, but also a lot of new information. The main focus is on the early years of the history of LEGO, and how the LEGO brick became what it is today. The catalogue offers detailed information about more than 9,000 LEGO sets on more than 900 pages.

Every copy of the LEGO Collector's Guide comes enclosed with an exclusive LEGO key ring, which is not available in other ways. The noble-looking packaging of the key ring turns this product into a true eye-catcher.

Here are the key data of the new catalogue:

    - LEGO Collector 2. Edition – Catalogue of all LEGO® Sets – from the beginning until now
    - Release date: End of April 2011
    - Compact DIN-A5 Softcover format
    - Around 9,000 included objects on more then 900 pages

It costs €28 and I believe they'll ship anywhere in the world.

Sounds good. Does anyone know what keyring it is?

Posted by atkinsar in United Kingdom, 19 Mar 2011 06:44

Excellent, I missed out on this last time, I'll definitely pick this up.

Keyring looks like a black plate with a classic space symbol on...

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 19 Mar 2011 08:02

I'd like to have it, but how much will it be in USD currency?

Posted by conradslater in United States, 19 Mar 2011 08:57

You need to change that link - it takes you to a page specific to your account. As soon as anyone follows it they can change your address rather than create their own account. I've checked this on another browser too.

Cool, but there is one thing: how could the book have more than 9000 "sets" and Brickset around 8400 "sets"? Is Brickset missing so much, or has the book things Brickset doesn't want in the database?

Posted by joeyzbrown in United States, 19 Mar 2011 09:41

"Around 9,000 included objects on more then 900 pages" - objects not sets :0

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 19 Mar 2011 09:45

^^ (MERLEGO) Remember that there have been sets with the brick we know today since 1958, and even more with Automatic Binding Bricks since 1949.

9000 objects? Holy schnikes, that's a lot. I may get this if I have the chance.

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 19 Mar 2011 09:51

@MERLego...Bricksets has the best database, but there might be a couple of missing sets. Like I can't find an exclusive Indiana Jones set from San Diego Con 2008.

The first edition was excellent, so this will certainly be worth getting I think, particularly if you missed out first time round.

Awsome. I've got the first one and I can't wait for the new update! I hope this will also include the videogames and magnet or book sets. I haven't seen them in the first version...

Thank you @Conrad, now done.

Just to let people know, about an hour after placing an order, I received an order confirmation for somebody in a totally different country, and it looks like I may have been charged for it. The website/order system may be experiencing problems or be insecure/buggy. I'm awaiting their response. Hope nobody else is affected!

Is the entire book 900 pages long? I'm confused.

Will this be available in the United States?

Posted by airgap25 in United States, 19 Mar 2011 16:28

Is it englesias language version?....Cost of shipping to US 35. euro :-)

Posted by suckerpunch83 in Canada, 19 Mar 2011 16:34

Great news. I hope I can get this off TLG site....I don't usually buy from unfamiliar sites. Maybe it will available locally....

Posted by cnelson in United States, 19 Mar 2011 17:13

Yep, the 35 Euro shipping to the US is something of a dealbreaker... 63 Euros = almost $90! Hope there's a US source for it.

I remember I bought the first edition from Amazon for £19 so I'll wait (especially that it means free shipping). I love the first edition but if there are another ones I guess I'll wait for the 3rd or 4th edition ;) I don't need to have every book but it's great they're releasing a new one.

Posted by LusiferSam in United States, 19 Mar 2011 19:43

I loved the first edition. It's a great book to just thumb through. I'm surprised that new edition is coming out so soon. Hopefully the numerous errors of the first edition will be addressed. The shear number and nature of these errors is highly disturbing. I don't think I'll be pre-ordering it, I'm not really in the key chains, but I will be getting this.

Posted by VWBeetle1626 in Poland, 20 Mar 2011 06:16

Great, great! I hope that this version is better than first.

Whenever I go to buy the Lego book and click confirm order (paying using PayPal), I get the error:

"Ack: Failure
Correlation ID: bf26f6f340f
Version:3.0
Error Number:10729
Error Short Message: Shipping Address State Empty
Error Long Message: The field Shipping Address State is required"

And the whole order process re-starts. However, my shipping address is correctly stated, yet I get the above error.

Anybody has a workaround? Have emailed them but in case anybody knows of a solution here.

Posted by richselby in United Kingdom, 21 Mar 2011 04:44

I went through the order form, and it came out at GBP35.00 for the book and delivery to the UK. Ouch! I think I'd prefer to buy a Lego set for that money, rather than a book about them.

Posted by jamesster in United States, 21 Mar 2011 14:59

"The catalogue offers detailed information about more than 9,000 LEGO sets..."
IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!
Sorry, couldn't resist. :P I'll be picking this up for sure.

Does anyone know if a hardcover version will be produced? Does anyone recall if the First Edition paperback preceded the hardcover version, or were they released simultaneously?
