HERO Factory 3.0

A German toy shop has pictures of the Hero Factory 3.0 sets. If they carry on at this rate, by 2014 we'll be up to Furno 10.0 and I think the novelty will have worn off long before then...

Sticking with HERO Factory news, a couple of people emailed us about a Hero Recon website at LEGO.com yesterday. I received the new shop.LEGO.com catalogue today and it appears that this will be like Design-By-Me, but for HERO Factory: 'use the hero creator to design and purchase your very own Hero Recon Team Agent including the unique silver chest plate', which I guess is pretty cool if you're into HERO Factory. It launches on 1st April.

THESE look quite good but not great

Posted by Berrybrick in United States, 23 Mar 2011 14:49

Is it chrome silver? It seems Bulk 3.0 has a silver chest plate.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 23 Mar 2011 15:07

Probably 'plastic silver' but it has a trans green 'H' which I guess is unique.

I don't think the novelty will wear off anytime soon, just look at how long Bionicle went.

Posted by TBOC in United States, 23 Mar 2011 15:36

Ew... I hate Hero Factory. This would have worked way better with BIONICLE, but no, we get this instead. What was Lego thinking...

hero factory is so evil, in the commercials, Von Nebula cleans the people's lawn/yard and Meltdown wanted to play basketball. What do they get? Hero factory bullying them

OMG!! That website also as pics of the Naboo Starfighter!

UPDATE:

Plus they have two pics of series 5
New Kingdoms and Alien Conquest pictures

^^Oh yeah I just noticed that too!Awesome

Posted by Kalhiki in United States, 23 Mar 2011 17:33

It launches on April first? I hope that's not an April Fools Joke! Haha! Wow, that was bad.
But still, good to see some CGI pictures. And the release date of HFRT.

Posted by PaulTR in United States, 23 Mar 2011 17:53

Meh. Hero Factory is merely a shade of BIONICLE, and these sets are no different. Still, thanks for the news; my little brother likes them, so he'll be excited about this bit of news.

Posted by Berrybrick in United States, 23 Mar 2011 18:03

Orange Lemons-It will if they are all just Furno and Stormer. We didn't see ten different versions of Tahu, Pohatu, and Lewa; only four of each.

Posted by skipper1011 in United States, 23 Mar 2011 18:54

^^I could not agree more with you.

Indeed the side shows more intresting stuff then just Hero Factory 3.0. The most intresting part is the fact that the recommend retail price of Series 5 is 2,49€, for series 4 (and 3,2,1) it was 1,99€. I dont know how trustworthy this information is (Series 5, HF 3.0 etc is "sofort lieferbar" which means "in stock" :P ), but maybe the minifigs will be more expensive in the future...

Also the pictures of the new Lego Technics (8109,8110) and the Creator 5771 "Hillside House" are very cool.

"{only} four of each"

Heh.

I don't really care if the names always contain the word Furno, the sets are quite different from the previous waves. Plus it seems the team will always be different. 2.0 Didn't have Stringer and Bulk but introduced Nex and Evo. 3.0 also dropped 3 heroes in exchange of Rocka, Stringer and Bulk.

why does germany always get the new sets?

by the way, raw-jaw is a gorilla with elephant tusks.

Please please let these die off like Bionicle! But make a quick death instead of a slow death!!!!

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 23 Mar 2011 21:29

Can you say SOO not impressed with any of it. I'm not sure I even want to waste money on the Star Wars sets. Series 5 looks like a real let down.

Posted by The Brick Show in United States, 23 Mar 2011 21:30

ya, novelty has already worn off. We don't review any of those anymore.

Posted by Unknown User2596 in United States, 23 Mar 2011 22:43

Interesting observations:
- The hillside house has a sound brick that acts as a doorbell. Very interesting......
- The box art for Alien Abduction includes a sign that shows a cow getting abducted by a UFO. Why the actual set doesn't have a cow, no one knows...
- It looks like the cards that come with KaiDX in the mountain shrine set will just be regular Kai cards.
Has anyone bought anything from here yet? Someone should get the images here so I don't miss a thing ;)

The series 5 official image with them all lined up in fours is there! And it seems that if you click on the image you can zoom in making it high resolution!

EDIT: the dinosaur guy has a tail!!!!! :D

Posted by legohpcity in Sweden, 24 Mar 2011 05:02

Wait... Can you buy series 5 minifigures and the Hillside house on that German site?

Posted by schwarzkopf in Germany, 24 Mar 2011 07:00

Of course you can :D

No probably just a mistake. They also changed the order status from "in stock" to "available soon" (01.08.2011 for series 5). But they added series 4 Packs for 1,49€ each :)

The whole shop is great, becuase they offer all lego sets 20-25% cheaper then the recommed retail price set by lego. I think I'll have to buy something right now!

Thanks for telling me schwarzkopf! :)

I picked up a couple of the first Hero Factory sets for my 5 year old, and I was disappointed by the lack of parts and articulation. Though v2 and v3 look better, I'm amazed the chararcters are revised so quickly. It reminds me of how Power Rangers become obselete as soon as the new version comes along. A good marketing ploy, but likely to annoy parents very quickly. But with v3 coming soon, I might pick up a couple of the new v2 characters on sale. I'd be more interested if they made Upgrade packs, to equip your original bot with weapons, a jet pack, etc.

I wouldn't describe myself as a HF fan at all, but I can't help but think - price aside - that the Hero Recon thing may well be a boon in actually having HF models that are, well, decently-built. One of the things that really bugs me about the HF sets, particularly the second wave onward, is how LEGO makes certain design choices with the sets which look terrible and could've been averted /so easily/, like say rotating parts of Stormer's leg plating /90 degrees toward the front/. 3.0 looks like it's continuing the tradition, if in a worse way with no armour plating at all in places.

Anyway, getting sidetracked; I'll save flaying HF 3.0 alive for other sites. :P

I'm still not totally sure what LEGO meant when it promised that HF would have a "more flexible building system" in that announcement it gave BZP way back in 2009, but I'm pretty much certain they have not followed through with anything resembling that rather bold declaration thus far, which is my biggest peeve with HF. Though it's obviously no substitute for putting actual effort into sets, I can't help but think that Hero Recon may be a step, however minor, halfhearted or ghastily-priced (I can't help but suspect that models from it will be priced even worse than standard Design-By-Me stuff), in that direction. Not enough to redeem the line as a whole, but hey, at least it's better than nothing.

To me, all the Hero Factory sets look the same, they're all very generic, unlike the Bionicles, which were more complex and each wave of them was different from the last. I rarely pay attention to HF now.

Posted by Rubber Mongoose in United Kingdom, 24 Mar 2011 13:08

One mistake Huw; Hero Recon Team launches on the 5TH of April, not the 1st.

Posted by modena in Italy, 24 Mar 2011 15:15

Cool! I was one of the "couple of people emailed us" thanks for mentioning me! They look nice... How did you calculate the release rate?

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 24 Mar 2011 15:45

I finally saw the "from the makers of Bionicle" tag in Walmart Clearance. HF's not selling too well, huh?

Posted by Gus263 in Brazil, 25 Mar 2011 10:47

The sets are always the same except their helmets and new molds like claws or spears. I don't think it will be that useful. If the color variety is good, including brown, green and other colors we don't see in the market (which are usually gray, black, or silver) that will be a nice differential, but I have the feel it will be just a repetition.
@legoguysw: I agree. Bionicle from some years before its end became very generic too, but there were molds that made up the personality of the sets.
@Dlakii: Well, I think Lego said "more flexible" because they had nothing better to say. I can't see how "more flexible" it can be. The story is just "beat the bad guys, now next planet" and the sets are about the same thing.

Posted by knuclear200x in United States, 25 Mar 2011 14:02

Why do the heroes only carry ONE weapon? What if I want a pair of matching claws?

Posted by MisterGeolix814 in United States, 25 Mar 2011 20:52

@knuclear200x: bulk has two weapons.

I can't wait, but I wonder how many Hero Factory parts will be available.
