News round-up

Posted by Huw, 27 Mar 2011 17:14. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Here's a round-up of the snippets of news that have been sent to us this weekend:

    - UK: Spend £20 on Star Wars LEGO in Toys R Us and get a 'limited edition Star Wars set' free. Jonny 2 Scarves reported that it was 8033, the mini General Grievous ship, in his branch and bluefox1966 says is was the V-19 Torrent, 8031 in his, so it looks as if it varies across the country.

    - USA: PaulTR reports "I recently went to Microcenter, a big electronics chain in America. While I was there, I was surprised to see them selling bags of Series 1 minifigures for $2.99 US dollars per bag. The display was a little unorganized and there were no full-size boxes, but nontheless, they were there. I'm not sure if this is a nationwide thing; the Microcenter I went to is located in Bergen County, NJ." That sounds like a great way to stock up on cheerleaders or clowns!

    - USA: Nightfury reports that "The Farnsworth House is on the shelf of the Lego Imagination Center at the Mall of America. It costs $59.99". It would be nice to have a picture of it, wouldn't it -- has anyone seen one?

UPDATE: 21009-1: Farnsworth House is on the shelves of the LEGO Store in Raleigh, NC. Series 4 Collectible Minifigures were also in stock, retailing for $2.99 - Brickapolis.

UPDATE / USA: As advertised in the April store calendar and per Toysnbricks and FBTB, some Series 1 Collectible Minifigure elements have begun appearing in Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) displays at Lego Stores not to mention new mermaid elements.  Per Brickset member madforlegos, you can build Clowns, Magicians, and Forestmen (without the accessories) and that there are also Cheerleader and Nurse hair pieces available.  Lastly, Brickset member copperwonder96 adds that, per sales staff at his local store, BAM displays, "will be getting different "Series" elements each quarter."  Thanks to everyone else for the similar updates - Yellowcastle.

The closest Microcenter for me is 10 miles away...so...
probably NOT gonna get some... :(

If anyone in the US can get me a cheerleader or two and send them over I will be very grateful. I have money or series 3. Thanks

from Microcenter website: S2 for $1.49! Lets see if the "Brickset effect" will be in.....effect!

Posted by zaxter2001 in United States, 27 Mar 2011 17:53

I looked at getting the S2 off the Microcenter website, but the cost of shipping almost eliminates the savings. :P

Posted by Unknown User2596 in United States, 27 Mar 2011 18:06

Closest Microcenter is at least 9.5mi :'(
How much is shipping though?

Posted by zaxter2001 in United States, 27 Mar 2011 18:43

Shipping Rates for Microcenter when getting the Minifigures are:

Flat rate per order: $5.00
+$.99 for first item
+$.99 for each additional item

Therefore, if you order 10 Minifigures, your cost will be:

10 Bags x $1.49 $14.90
$5.00 Order Shipping + $5.00
1 x $.99 Shipping 1st item + $.99
9 x $.99 For additional items + $8.91
__________________________________
Total $29.80

So when you buy 10, shipping costs double the price per bag up to about $3.00 each
From there you can make the decision to buy or not to buy :)

My local Microcenter has already gone through their series 1 and 2, and they're already onto S3. I was surprised to see them there as well but they had them in the MN store when they were out everywhere else. This does make me want to go back in to check it out though.

As for the Farnsworth House, we had to pull it on Friday because we put it out before street date, at the MOA Lego store. Not sure if that's changed over the weekend, but I'd recommend calling ahead before going in to look for it.

Posted by TBOC in United States, 27 Mar 2011 21:45

YES! I have a MicroCenter next to my Borders and Target! I'll buy the last couple I need, as well as that Kingdoms polybag!

Posted by yys4u in United States, 27 Mar 2011 22:12

I drove about 15 miles to get to my microcenter, just because the possibility of finding sealed series 1 was too much to pass up. Well i got there and they had about 7 packets of series 3 by the checkout aisle.

I probably wont check out the build a mini bars either unless they start getting something more than the clown and robin hood.

Hi Huw
Thanks for the news. Still can't find minifigs for less than $4.99 in Australia. Interesting to hear about the Build A Figs though...
Cheers
Inger

I have featured Brickset in my latest post - http://www.thebricklife.com/best-lego-blogs-april-2011-%E2%80%93-brickset/

^ That's an excellent article, Inger, thank you!

My Sainsburys (Exeter) have 30% off the Police boat and Yellow Lorry sets.

Posted by nightfury in United States, 28 Mar 2011 07:54

@beefygrefe- It was fixed the same day. It took about an hour to get it in the system. I bought one Friday afternoon around 2:30pm. They are still on the shelves and being sold at the Lego MOA.

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 28 Mar 2011 08:24

Cool news about the minifig series elements becoming available, probably only a matter of time before they appear in the Pick a Brick section in Lego Shop at Home.

Posted by beefygrefe in United States, 28 Mar 2011 09:17

@nightfury - good times; I never understood why Lego sends stuff out early if they don't want it put out for sale.

I just went to my local Toys R Us in Columbus OH. They had Series 2 and 3 on the counter. They also had a Buy one get one half off Series 3 deal going on.

Posted by minifig051 in United States, 28 Mar 2011 18:58

Series 1 and 2 being at Microcenter is great! There aren't any Microcenters in my general area, but the one in NJ that is mentioned is just a state-hop over. Bricklink doesn't have Series 1 sorted by accesories/no accesories like the other series have. I would have had to buy the one with that says they are included in the description. Getting them at Microcenter would mean a gaurantee of having accesories and a fixed price. I could get some more of the pieces in the Build a Minifig bins so I could just get their torsos and make 2 different cavemen without having to get 2 packaged Cavemen.

Posted by Kotton in United States, 28 Mar 2011 20:01

FYI: I went to the NJ Micro Center today, and not a Series 1 figure in sight. I guess they sold out.

All they had were some Series 3 for $2.99.

Dang!

Posted by TBOC in United States, 28 Mar 2011 20:06

So, has anyone else gone to their MicroCenter and found Series 1? My Microcenter is a three-minute drive away, but I can't go until Friday. And if they have Series 3 for $3, maybe I might go there instead of Borders. Luckily, my Target, Borders and MicroCenter and in a minutes walk of eachother too.

Posted by yys4u in United States, 28 Mar 2011 21:08

You know I'm pretty sure these people reporting that they have seen series 1 anywhere are probably hoaxes. This happens every couple months, some one said they saw series 1 at a store, and then NO ONE can ever confirm it.

Anyways I just came back from legoland California and they do have the series 1 elements there. I believe they had clown, magician, forest man, and maybe nurse, I didn't see torso but I'm pretty sure they had the hair and face.

More importantly they were doing BUY ONE GET ONE FREE, so for 10 bucks you get to build 6 minifigs!

I don't know what the promotion was but the lady just told me and I picked up random assortment for some decals I have.

Series 4 @ Chandler Lego Store, lots in the store plus they still have lots of Series 3 too.
This Lego store is the best, thanks to Nick for helping me out to get 7 that I wanted plus an extra Hockey Player for my wife.

Posted by atmail35 in United States, 29 Mar 2011 00:00

@yys4u I was at the Lego Store on 3/28 and bought a set of 3 BAM and it was not BOGO :(

Posted by yys4u in United States, 29 Mar 2011 00:05

@atmail35 it must be a Legoland thing then... I don't know how it works but lego stores and legoland are separate, when lego.com or lego stores have a sale their usually not valid at legoland resorts. I guess it works the other way too....

Posted by wildcherryp3psi in United States, 29 Mar 2011 00:28

Just noticed that the Hazmat Series 4 minifigure is shown in the "Theme" section of Legoshop.com, clicked on it but they only show Series 3. Looks like they're getting ready to have them for sale online very soon!

Posted by nandel in United States, 29 Mar 2011 11:22

Just checked Lego.com. as wildcherryp3psi stated, the hazmat guy is the thumbnail for the minifigures theme under themes, also they have a small picture of the Farnsworth house is also the thumbnail for the architecture section. The Cars theme also has the regular brick sized Lightning McQueen instead of the duplo version as its thumbnail.

Posted by wildcherryp3psi in United States, 29 Mar 2011 17:23

Also just noticed that the Star Wars "Theme" button is now the black pilot instead of R2-D2.

Posted by minifig051 in United States, 29 Mar 2011 17:49

@ Kotton: DARN! Well, you saved me a trip to New Jersey. My mom is going to call the store to make sure they had Series 1+2 at all. Oh well. Back to Bricklink, I guess.

Posted by Mr. Mini Man in United States, 29 Mar 2011 20:19

If you go to the Shop section on Lego.com, then go to themes, and look at Architecture, there is a picture of the Fanworth house. Very small for its price tag of $59.99.

Posted by wildcherryp3psi in United States, 30 Mar 2011 01:27

Anyone in AZ close to the Chandler Lego store should visit there, I have seen the clowns in the BAM bins and lots and lots of Series 3 and more importantly lots of Series 4.
I completed my set with the help of Nick yesterday and James today. This store has got to be the best Lego store I have been to, thanks guys for you kindness to a fellow Legoholic!

Posted by nightfury in United States, 30 Mar 2011 11:05

@ Mr. Mini Man- I posted photos of it on my flikr account if you would like to see the actual built set. http://www.flickr.com/photos/nightfury21/5568094630/in/photostream/

Is hair considered an element? I'd totally use one of those "Build a fig" things if you can use hair (Like the Clown's hair).

Posted by yys4u in United States, 30 Mar 2011 17:53

yea they have the clowns hair out right now. You can build the entire clown without the horn and the forestman without quiver and bow. I saw elements of others but didn't bother to see if they could be completed

Posted by avoiceoreason in United States, 31 Mar 2011 17:26

Farnsworth House also on the Shelves at the Lego store in KOP, PA. They also had Series 1 elements in the BAM and Series 4 available behind the counter. They were also dumping Hero Factory elements into the pick-a-brick wall. They were filling 8 bins w/ Hero Factory and said most stores would be doing 12 (the KOP store has a pretty small wall).

Anyone have a v-19 (8031) they want to trade me (unopened). Hit me up!

Also, I'm into most poly bags if anyone wants to trade... Let's do this!
