Orient Expedition minifigs added to gallery

  • Orient Expedition minifigs added to gallery

Posted by Huw, 28 Mar 2011 04:58. Filed under Brickset.

I've added the Orient Expedition minifigs, from the 2003 Adventurers sets, to the Adventurers minifig gallery, which now completes it.

What next for the minifig gallery? Well, I'm running out of themes to do now: I plan to add Atlantis, since I have most of them, which will then just leave Star Wars. I've managed to acquire all SW minifigs except Boba Fett from Cloud City so I should be able to do the theme justice now.

There are now nearly 800 minifig images in the gallery, which is pretty amazing given I only started in January! The quality has certainly improved since the first Harry Potter ones, so much so that I need to re-do the HP ones at some point to keep them all consistent.

I hope you've enjoyed seeing the pics as much as I've enjoyed taking them.

What about doing classic pirates next? Or are you waiting until the new Pirates of the Caribbean figs come out so you can do them all in one go?

Posted by KLOKRIECHER in Germany, 28 Mar 2011 06:04

Awsome pictures! I'm looking forward to see the Atlantis and the Star Wars minifig gallery. Are you doing a gallery of the LEGO Power Miners and LEGO Rock Raiders theme too?

Posted by SJPlego in United States, 28 Mar 2011 06:13

The "Dragon Fortress Guardian" goes under "Others", not "Villains", since his role in the story was akin to that of Achu. Not sure, but I think his armor might also be backwards. Other than that, excellent work on this gallery!

Posted by atkinsar in United Kingdom, 28 Mar 2011 07:19

Great work Huw, I honestly don't know where you find the time. When you started these galleries, I was expecting one per month tops! When you factor in the other stuff you've been up to and the small fact of your day job, like I said, where on earth do you get the time?! Anyway, glad you found it somewhere.

Posted by thesinisterpenguin in United Kingdom, 28 Mar 2011 07:54

Awesome work!

At the bottom of this page, http://www.brickset.com/minifigs/browse/ under 'Classic Themes -> Adventurers' it leads to a dead page which calls the theme 'adveturers' http://www.brickset.com/minifigs/browse/?theme=Adveturers

The minifig photos look amazing! I think the only Orient set I have is Elephant's Caravan, with Babloo, I love it because it came with a really cool lego elephant. :)

Posted by PaulTR in United States, 28 Mar 2011 08:40

Ahh, Orient Expedition! The last of the good 'ol Adventurers theme! I remember when these sets came out; I wanted to get them so bad, but I didn't have enough cash:( My, did I just shed a tear? Great work, Huw!

Posted by brickmatt in United States, 28 Mar 2011 09:18

These are great galleries - Adventurers was one of my favorite themes.

A couple of suggestions for when you finish Atlantis - Power Miners and Agents are recent, relatively small themes that probably wouldn't be difficult to obtain the figures for.

Posted by jatonaz in Taiwan, Province of China, 28 Mar 2011 09:23

amazing work as usual, thanks a bunch Huw!!

Posted by SapmiSatan in Norway, 28 Mar 2011 09:28

Great pictures of the fantastic minifigures of my favourite non-licensed theme. You have made some errors thoug, Huw. First of, Sangye Dorje has light gray pants, as he's a good guy, while Ngan Pa has dark gray pants, as he's a bad guy. Also, the Dragon Fortress Guardian's armor has been put on the wrong way, and he should probably be filed under "Others". Besides that it looks fine.

While I'd prefer if you did Star Wars right away, I think it would be nice if you did Atlantis first, giving Star Wars the impact of being the "final"(for now, at least) theme.

Posted by modena in Italy, 28 Mar 2011 09:56

No need to Improve HP, they are already great! Star Wars is actually a nice theme, and I was wondering: What was that "another project which makes adding the minifigures slightly complicated"?

@Brickmatt I agree with you: "Power Miners and Agents are ... small themes that probably wouldn't be difficult to obtain the figures for."

Are there any place to update the old Star Wars mini fig gallery to the new style galleries?

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 28 Mar 2011 10:50

I know my son and I have enjoyed your gallery greatly Huw! So much fun to check out and cross reference with sets we have or are dying to get. Just excellent pics and the time and efforts you've put in I'm sure is appreciated by all Bricksetters and Lego afficionados.
A wonderful resource man.

Great job! Looking forward to Star Wars! That and the Classic Space solid red, white, yellow, black, blue dudes.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 28 Mar 2011 11:06

@SapmiSatan, thanks for spotting the legs, I'll get them swapped. However according to the instructions of the dragon fortress (http://cache.lego.com/bigdownloads/buildinginstructions/4209874.pdf) the guardian's armour is on the right way: the back has a hole at the top.

Posted by legoguy2805 in United Kingdom, 28 Mar 2011 11:09

Awesome! I'd love to see Power Miners, Atlantis, or Dino Attack next!

Posted by Ad the brickmaster in United Kingdom, 28 Mar 2011 12:57

Star Wars please!

Thanks for constantly updating the gallery with awesome pics of figs! Just out of curiosity, does Emperor Chang Wu have any printing on the back of his head? I feel like I saw him somewhere with printing there...

Posted by LegoC10 in United States, 28 Mar 2011 14:24

Awesome pics! Adventurers/Oriental Expedition were one of the best themes, in my opinion. And also one of the longest lastings.

Posted by TheKingOfBuilding in United Kingdom, 28 Mar 2011 14:44

@Pepper: yes, Chang Wu has a sort of pony-tail printed on the back of his head!

Posted by Berrybrick in United States, 28 Mar 2011 14:56

I think I liked the old Pippin and Johnny better. . . .

Posted by SJPlego in United States, 28 Mar 2011 15:21

Okay, I was unsure about the guardian's armor, since most Minifigs with that armor have it turned the other way, with the hole facing the front. Oddly enough, it's also turned the hole-in-the-front way in the Orient Expedition comics (see Comic 9 of http://www.majhost.com/gallery/SJPlego/OrientExpedition/orient-expedition-comics-page-3.jpg) and even the comic included at the beginning of the instruction booklet. Of course, since this is the only set the guardian appeared in, there's no way to tell if the unorthodox wearing of the armor was intentional or an artwork mistake.

But regardless of the guardian's armor, the Minifig should still be placed under "Others", not "Villains". Trust me... I'm a huge Adventurers story geek and I know that the guardian was essentially placed in the Dragon Fortress to keep the greedy villains away and to only let the heroic adventurers access the Golden Dragon. And being that I'm a huge Adventurers story geek, I like to nitpick about these things.

But it's all just constructive criticism, right? All geared towards building a better-organized and more accurate gallery.

Posted by guildfordmatt in United Kingdom, 28 Mar 2011 15:41

@ SJPlego: Could you provide a link to the other comics please.

Posted by LEGO_Lord in United States, 28 Mar 2011 17:50

There is still more to be done.
*Castle (include gaint trolls, please)
*Pirates
*Dino Attack/Dino 2010 (if possible)
*Power Miners/Rock Raiders
*Agents/Alpha-Team
*Atlantis/Aqua-Zone/Aqua Raiders
*Ninjas/Ninjago
*Studios
and the motherload: Star Wars (make sure you include everything including Battle Droids, Astromechs, Jabba, ect.)
Also the previous ones need improvements:
Batman:
*Mr. Freeze needs a photo
Space:
*Add Mars Mission please, it would really make it look better
Spider-Man:
*You left out a police man from one of the sets

Posted by benjadude11 in United States, 28 Mar 2011 19:37

This looks great, Adventurers is one of my favorite themes of all time, but I do wonder where you got some of these names! I have never heard the characters referred to as Dr. Charles Lightning, Prof. Articus, Gail Storm, Linda Lovely, Sam Grant, Joe Freeman, Mr. Hates, Evil Eye, or Sam Sanister. To me they were always Johnny Thunder, Prof. Kilroy, Pippin Reed and Lord Sinister. Regardelss, this is excellent, and do Power Miners next!

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 28 Mar 2011 21:50

@benjadude11...yeah, crazy with so many names. Mostly it was from different countries where they released those sets.

I vote for Mars Mission, Ninjago, Power Miners and Castle.

Posted by Juwayyid in United States, 28 Mar 2011 23:29

Powerminers has been my all-time favorite theme, and it would be cool to see their gallery. There are also agents, who had some neat villains.

Yes, as I pointed out five days ago when Huw uploaded the jungle adventurers pictures. It seems someone doesn't like acknowledging or fixing mistakes.

Posted by CharlieTheFunEngine in Australia, 29 Mar 2011 02:08

Top yellow box reads "Every minifig from 1998-2000 sets." Needs updating.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 29 Mar 2011 02:38

^^ Acknowleged, I just haven't got round to fixing it yet.

@LEGO_Lord, please do your research and read previous discussions before making accusations and requests:

"There is still more to be done.
*Castle (include gaint trolls, please)
*Pirates
*Dino Attack/Dino 2010 (if possible)
*Power Miners/Rock Raiders
*Agents/Alpha-Team
*Atlantis/Aqua-Zone/Aqua Raiders

I will only be doing Atlantis from this list as I don't have any of the other figs, apart from Fantasy era Castle.

"and the motherload: Star Wars (make sure you include everything including Battle Droids, Astromechs, Jabba, ect.)"

I won't be doing anything brick-built when I do SW

"Also the previous ones need improvements"

Please be more specific

"*Mr. Freeze needs a photo"

He has one

"*Add Mars Mission please, it would really make it look better"

No, I don't have them all.

"*You left out a police man from one of the sets"

No I didn't leave any 'SpiderMan' figs out: check again. I may have left a generic policeman out but I am not doing them.

@Huw: I've uploaded some pictures of my LEGO Life On Mars and LEGO Mars Mission minifigs in my gallery which you can find on my website www.klokriecher.de in the category 'LEGO Collection'. If they're useful you can use them for the brickset minifig gallery ONLY. ;-)

^^ Thanks, I've now removed it and will purging all of jackson2727's posts later on, and disabling his account, everything he has posted is rubbish.

Posted by glamdring804 in United States, 29 Mar 2011 10:58

I know that you don't have all the castle minifigs, so maybe you can wait till summer so that the gallery is up to date and you time to stock up on all the other minifigs, at least if you want to.
For mars mission, i just guessing that you're missing some of the astronauts, seeing as there were only two aliens, the drones and commanders.
I don't care about all of the brick built minifigs for starwars, but at least include the new Grevious.
Ninjago would look really good as a gallery, especialy when the new sets are relesed this summer.
I would love to see power miners, but it's not esential.
Finally...Words can't say how awesome the pirates minifigs would look...

Posted by legoguy2805 in United Kingdom, 29 Mar 2011 11:14

@ Huw: Aww. It's a shame you can't do any other galleries apart from Star Wars and Atlantis. But what if us Brickset members took really clear pics of minifigs from the other themes and sent them to you via email, which you could then put into a gallery? It would be another great addition to the minifig browser and the Lego community.

I myself have all of the Power Miners minifigs apart from Firox (Not including the big monsters). I could send you a gallery if you like...

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 29 Mar 2011 12:30

^ I certainly could. And actually, having just cheked, although I don't have all the Dino Attack figs I have enough to be able to make them all, and should be able to do the same for Power Miners, too. So, watch this space...

Posted by Orthobotrex in Philippines, 29 Mar 2011 13:33

Great pics...I just identified where some of my figs belonged. Looking forward to Star Wars!

Posted by LEGO_Lord in United States, 29 Mar 2011 14:23

Mr. Freeze doesn't have a photo in the Batman gallery. I don't really like brick-built stuff either, I meant add things like battle droids. Also why did you remove Lotso, etc. from the Toy Story gallery? If you put them back in could you add Lotso's dump truck driver? Mr. Freeze may have one, but he is not in the gallery, check again.

Posted by LEGO_Lord in United States, 29 Mar 2011 14:24

Also I hope you don't mind, but I am using your images for a wiki project.

Posted by Berrybrick in United States, 29 Mar 2011 14:50

LEGO_Lord: I can see it, he is under Bane, next to Poison Ivy, and above the Penguin.

Posted by LEGO_Lord in United States, 29 Mar 2011 15:04

Oh, well it must of been temporarily deleted. It wasn't there last time I checked.

Posted by legoguy2805 in United Kingdom, 29 Mar 2011 15:05

@Huw: That's great! If you ever need pictures of any minifigs you don't have for a gallery, I'll be happy to supply a picture if I have the fig.

@LEGO_Lord: That's strange, I can see Mr. Freeze in the gallery. There must be a problem with your computer or laptop.

(Also Huw, I think there's a glitch in Brickset's location detector: I live in, and am posting this from England)

Posted by SJPlego in United States, 29 Mar 2011 15:10

I just noticed something. Is there any particular reason for the two "Others" categories? The guardian and Gabarros are in one, Achu and Hotep are in the other. Was this a mistake or was it intentional? If you're splitting them up for storyline reasons, then it would make more sense to group Achu, Hotep, and the guardian together (because the three of them had similar storyline roles), but that would leave poor Gabarros all alone in his own category...

Posted by LEGO_Lord in United States, 29 Mar 2011 15:23

Thanks for uploading these photographs, I haven't seen any clear pictures of Adventurers until now. By the way, Dock Ock's photographs could show the tentacles, just a suggestion.

Actually I do mind. The images are not to be used elsewhere without prior agreement.

I'm sorry, I credit Brickset on every article, would you like anything else? I should have asked you earlier.

One of my favorite themes.

I have the big temple set, really nice set, but I don't remember that minifigure you have as this topics picture. It's really cool and now I need to go look for him. :)

Posted by LEGO_Lord in United States, 29 Mar 2011 16:46

You'll have to ask Brickipedia about this first, they use your photographs all the time without even saying a word about it. They don't even give credit.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 29 Mar 2011 17:40

Brickipedia is welcome to use any image which is (c) LEGO, that is virtually every image here that is not a minifig image, since they don't belong to me to start with.

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 29 Mar 2011 17:45

@Huw: ...and now you've added a menacing warning on every minifig gallery. :P Complete with red colour. :P

Posted by RPMKris in United States, 29 Mar 2011 23:48

O my LEGO_Lord! Shut em down Huw! If it wasnt for the relative ease and quality over Brickset (I love the links) I wouldnt have sorted all 2K of my figs and gotten them correct. Gave me something productive to do between the next wave of Figs and Sets coming out. Keep up the good work!

Question: What specifies Johnny Thunder's name as "Sam Grant", if you are referring to Jurassic Park III, his name is "Alan Grant" not "Sam Grant".

/\Sam Grant was one of the many name variants that came with the theme in 1998./\
