    Check out this monster! I'm a bit late breaking this story, but it's definitely worth mentioning. It's legit because the image came from LEGO.com, although I suspect it shouldn't be there, and we'll face the 'Spanish inquisition' from LEGO's community team again :-)

    I wonder what price tag it will command?

Awesome piece for anyones collection, but think the lack of mini-figs will put a few people off.

wouldn't be surprised if it went for £200+ when it goes on sale.

Magnificent doesn't even begin to describe this set! My only concern is the price; maybe LEGO put the minifigures with it to justify a higher price, perhaps one similar to the UCS Imperial Shuttle.

Eh.... I'm not convinced by it awesomeness yet. IMO, the fact that they put figs in a set like that shows they are trying to cash in and convince people to get it.

I can think of better ways to spend my LEGO budget.

I have been wanting this for a looooong time. I love all things OT Empire, especially Star Destroyers and have been wondering for a couple years now, will we ever get the Executor.
Now I'm perfectly happy so far lookin' at this pic but I don't need minifigs with this set. If it's not a playset, leave 'em out, drop the price accordingly. NO FIGS NEEDED...;)

Unbelievable... That set looks amazing, but I think the price might be a little lower than many other estimates, if you look at the ship, it seems to be made up mainly of tiny details on the top/bridge section, and plates for the rest of it. Of course there will inevitably be a great deal of Technic inside but I would estimate the price, given the many small parts and many large plates, would be closer to £180 or $220. At least that is what I am hoping!

Furthermore that looks very much like a new Dengar head wrap to me, thank goodness after the travesty we received in the Slave 1 set from 2006. I would also like to see a new head sculpt at least in IG-88, he is a cool enough character to warrant one in my opinion and it could be re-used in Clone Wars sets for Assassin Droids making it more cost effective too!

I'm guessing it would be at least US $399.99, it looks like it takes up less pieces than the Millennium Falcon from looking at the width of the UCS Super Star Destroyer.

Amazing. I've been wondering for years why Lego hadn't released a UCS Executor, or at least a Home One-style bridge playset. I hope we'll get Captain Piett instead of a regular officer, that would be the icing on the cake! Of course, the mini-figs should be the last thing on my mind.

I just did a rough counting of the number of studs like you did ^Luigi, and came out to be about ~153, and so when you take that time the 8mm per stud, that gives you 1.224 meters! that really is 4 feet! i don't know if my bank account can handle that much LEGO. let alone my storage space :P

The piece count will be lower than the UCS MF. The playability of the minifigs with the destroyer will be pathetic as the scale is completely off. I don't even know why they would include minifigs excpt to jack up the price.

Really looks like a display piece. I would get the UCS shuttle over this.

@minroll32: It makes an appearance in Empire Strikes back. It is the Star Destroyer that is putting other smaller ones in its shadow.

WOW this looks great, the top looks very much inspired by the UCS Millenium Falcon with lots of detail. I wished Lego would have included 4 LOM and few other officers or stormtroopers but the a new Dengar is great especially the new head wrap. It looks like the piece count may exceed the Falcon and could make it as one of the biggest Lego sets ever?
The build might be a bit repetitive and boring but the result will be well worth it. I'm dreading the price as lego seem to be pushing it with some of the summer prices and the price will be a lot higher for the United Kingdom so I think I'll try and get it on Bricklink

I'm not as enamored with the set as most others seem to be. Sure, it's huge, but it's not as interesting or as iconic as the Imperial Star Destroyer or the Death Star. Anyone that owns the ISD knows how difficult it is to display because of the amount of horizontal shelf space it requires, and the situation is even worse with the Executor. This set will introduce yet another scale which further confuses the UCS lineup. And then, what's the point of including minifigs when it's not minifig scale? Oh, that's right, to exploit the popularity of minifigs and those who seek to collect them all.

I don't understand why everyone is getting so excited about this set. It is big - but not playable. The minifigures seem an afterthought to make it more desirable to certain collectors.
Has there ever been a Lego set with Minifigures that don't fit ANYWHERE into the main set?
The second Tantive set was maybe the first hint at this. Please no more.
Either models we can display or models we can play. Otherwise it's open to anything.

I'm with rocao on this. While I certainly love the ship in the movies, it just seems too big as a workable UCS model. And the minifigs are not only blah, they're completely out of place. The original mini falcon seemed to be close to exact proportion to the first UCS star destroyer. I can see some playability there and the ISD is just a gorgeous design as it is. And it would behoove me to mention that a well placed A-Wing can bring this puppy down in no time. :o)

Yes, but only after the deflector shield generators have been destroyed!

Chalk up another vote for 4-LOM and Zuckuss instead of Bossk and IG-88. And while this beast is undoubtedly too large to build for most, I expect that won't stop many from buying and storing it. (I'm considering it myself.)

Why are people questioning the awesomeness of this set on the basis that it is "a bunch of gray" and a "giant triangle"? Umm, wasn't the original UCS ISD nothing more than "a bunch of gray" and a "giant triangle". Sure, you can debate how "iconic" the ship is (in my opinion, it is VERY iconic. It's Darth Vader's personal freakin' star destroyer!!!) and I even agree that the addition of the figures is questionable at best. But let's not ignore the forest for the individual trees. The set itself is just as awesome, if not more so, than the UCS ISD that preceded it.

This set is going to be the best of its era. I myself am out of storage space and I have to either disesemble my current lego sets to make room for this or buy some more shelving wich will really cut into my lego budget. I really wanted the UCS Star Destroyer but unfortunately i missed that oppurtunity, but now I have a chance to buy a Super Star Destroyer. The price will most likely be really high and the bank has not been freindly to me at all lately. I'm struggling to save up for the summer sets all ready, but i'm sure time only knows if I will get the set or not. As for the mini-figures, they are cool but the set is not mini-figure scale and that better be Admiral Piett and not just an imperial officer. I love that scene when the a-wing crashes into the bridge and he jumps out of the way. The set also includes a mini star destroyer for comparing the sizes of the two.

I agree with 13PLOKOONIFY, I too unfortunately missed out on the first Imperial Star Destroyer so this Super Star Destroyer is long overdue and an excellent replacement to fill the star destroyer gap. :) I'm super stoked about this set and will try very hard to get it. I will begin saving for this as soon as the summer set fund has been completed. 'All aboard! The Super Star Destroyer train!'

Sorry to say it but I'm definitely in the 'meh' camp. I'm glad lots of people are excited about it, but it just doesn't do anything for me personally. Its a big grey spear-head. Perhaps the ship deserved being made, but the size for me is just unnecessary. I'd prefer to see ships and locations that have some unique sections/patterns/design features done in UCS scale so that those little features can be included, which when done in smaller scales have had to compromise/lose their shape/features. There's little compromise required when making Destroyers in smaller scales, so UCS destroyers just become bigger stud counts. Glad to see so many happy fans, but for me... I'll be saving a few hundred quid (thank god). :o)

@iabstract - Bite your tongue! ;o) The UCS Falcon is minifig scale and can serve as both eye candy as well as a great addition to one's rebel alliance, or imperial mission if the price is right. For eye candy sets only, I just don't think I want to go much bigger than the original UCS Star Destroyer. And even that would be a pain to showcase. If Lego is listening (It's me Margaret) (ha), give us more Imperial Shuttles, Falcons, Sandcrawlers, and Death Stars and less ObiWan starfighters and Super Star Destroyers.

I guess I have to second rocao, yellowcastle and others on this one.
Its not because something is big, never done before, exclusive or UCS that it has to be awesome..
Yes, it was one of Vaders transports ,..and?? Does that make it a key vessel in the OT? a must have?
On the pic I can't help to see just a big grey mousepointer, to heavy and out of scale to play with, to bulky for most to display.
I don't get the point to include figs with non minifig scale models neither.. to make it more exclusive? Or to convince people that are doubting?.. But why then include recuperated figs? (ok, maybe Dengars headpiece is new.. THAT will make the difference)
I guess only for those who realy want to collect all Lego releases, or at least the SW line, or want to speculate on rising resale prices..
Me, I got a while ago some 2,5 kg's of mixed grey and bley pieces from eBay, and perfectly happy with that.. :-)

I remember in the LEGO Fanclub magazine, ('Bricks n' Pieces') in about 1999, there was a picture of one of these that was much bigger and more detailed, obviously it never went into production. i always wanted one, but now I haven't got the space or money for it, so i'll just get the minifigs off ebay.

I could not agree with 'Corellian Engineering' more. Pointless, price-inflating minifigs. Too big to display. Not a very good play item. I would buy it if the price was reasonable but because of the minifigs and recent pricing trends it won't be.

Judging by that image, I think LEGO have got that mini Star Destroyer at a different scale from the Executor. The 'real' Executor was 19 km long which was about 12 times the length of an Imperial-class Star Destroyer (1.6 km). That mini Imperial-class Star Destroyer looks as if it's a fair bit smaller than 1/12th the length of that Executor. Still, LEGO also made a mistake with the scale of the mini Executor in set 10143, so at least they're consistent!

I was thinking about getting either a 3ds or some modular building or UCS set. The verdict. THIS IS AMZING and will be on my very small lego shelf. I've always wanted a super star destroyer ever since I got a die cast metal toy of one when I was younger. I had no idea what the thing was! In fact, this thing is longer than three and one/fourth normal stardestoyers. Which are huge in their own right.

@Corellian Engineering: To many, including myself, the Super Star Destroyer is an iconic Star Wars vessel. It's one of the few SW ships that Lego hasn't done yet (aside from that mini one with the Death Star II), so I'm glad they finally did one. I don't get the inclusion of minifigs, either, but I doubt they really affect the price much with something this large. I certainly look forward to displaying it. It would look great on a mantle, if I could ever get my wife to agree to something like that. :)

I suppose its a matter of opinion, and opinions vary on almost every set Lego releases. But I for one love this. In my opinion it represents the zenith of the Ultimate Collector Series. No play value? It has tons of play value! I'm going to start building a fleet of mini Mon Calamari cruisers and a mini Home One to fight this beast, and I'll start lifting weights so I will be able to swoosh it around my house!

I think this will be my 1st Star Wars UCS. Nothing like getting one of the biggest ship in the Star Wars universe. My mind instantly replayed the scene in EmpireSB with the imperial march playing where the Executor casts a shadow over all the star destroyers when I saw this news:)

As for the minifigures, it is a waste of space/resources. It simply does not fit into the set unless we get the whole gang of bounty hunters. If I recall there was Dengar, Bossk, IG-88, some insect head alien and Boba Fett during a scene in EmpireSB. Why TLG did not give all 4 bounty hunters plus Vader and the admiral is anyone's guess.

This looks amazing. I have forbidden myself and family members and friends and ... the list goes on, from buying any SW sets. You can't stop once you do, the Death Star being my only exception. I will 110% buy this. I wouldn't even care if it's not LEGO, that thing looks incredible. The fact it is just makes me want it more.

Let's be honest; anyone thinking the price will be less than $400 US has a bad case of "wishful thinking." Maybe if the minifigs weren't included there might be a chance at $350 US, but still doubtful.

Speaking of the minifigs, I agree with those that have said they seem out of place if it's a "display" model. The inclusion of minifigs is a fairly blatant cash-grab and appeal to the minifig fanatics, which makes the relative "ordinariness" of the included minifigs even more baffling. Dengar looks awesome and accurate; but an Imperial officer who may or may not be Piett (woot?), another IG-88, another Bossk, and another Vader? He better be chrome... Point being: if they were going to include minifigures, why not at least make them ones we haven't seen before or have rarely seen?

As for appreciation of the model itself, I'm firmly on the side of excitement. And it is an excitement that far surpasses my reaction to the minifigs. This has always been one of my favorite Star Wars ships and to see it get the official LEGO UCS treatment is a joy. Can't wait!

THIS SET IS MINE :) and i dont care about the price ill pay 1000$ for it if i got to.... i already spent over 6000$ for my private collection whats a few hundred more :) i have over 200 sets half still mint in the box .

LEGO really can't win.... What do you reckon the reaction would have been if LEGO had decided to stick 1 or more unique minifigs in a $400 set that couldn't be obtained anywhere else ?! Now THAT would have been mean. As it is, nobody who doesn't like this behemoth of a set need worry about missing out on anything. Seems fair enough to me, although I would have been quite happy for no minifigs to have been included.

I agree with Dr Dave, people seem to either decide that a set is very boring without Minifigures, or shouldn't have any Minifigures because it only adds to the price or they are out of scale! Bear in mind, Lego is a company trying to make money and people often see Minifigures as a big draw to sets (no doubt a lot of people here on Brickset) so if somebody is not sure whether to buy this or not, having an exclusive figure may tip the balance towards buying it. So financially for Lego it makes sense, despite increasing the prices slightly for us buyers.

@The Reviewer - I highly doubt this set will be a UK exclusive, if it was I imagine it would be a similar situation to Mace Windu's Jedi Starfighter, with it being released in the US fairly soon after it is in Europe. Also, some of you from the US don't seem to realise how many advantages you have, for instance before last Christmas, new sets were released around mid November in the US (I think), in the UK they were released on December 22nd! This tends to happen a lot for Lego...

Are you sure this is not a fake? I have not seen any set around with Minifigures that you cannot place in a UCS modell. Furthermore the display shield seems to be added quite unprofessional to one stand. Don't get me wrong I'd love to have this set but... you know...

I think this would be a great looking set to display on a mantle. This is a fantastic looking spacecraft.
I still don't get the minifigs for this if it doesn't open up and become a playset.
Instead, if it's a display model, just add a chrome vader and chrome Emperor (new scupts or something new on both) on a nice, unique minifig display base to compliment the set. Plus add fiber optic lighting. Then we have both model and figs as adult looking display pieces. I think that's the way to go.

I don't know if it's THAT mean; they included a few rare figures with the $400 Death Star. But there is the key difference that the Death Star set was a playset and this is a model (as far as we know from just this one picture). So for now I'm going to stick with them seeming merely "out of place" in the UCS SSD.

In retrospect the wording in my post conveys a more negative opinion of the minigures than I actually have, when truly it's a quibble at best. So I guess the lesson is, "Choose your words carefully, and PROOF-READ."

Overall I think they're a little underwhelming (save for Dengar), but ultimately just fine. To further clarify, making a "cash-grab" and an appeal to those who are wild about minifigures is not necessarily a bad thing. TLG is a business, and I agree with CapnRex101 when he says it makes good business sense to include the figures. Why NOT add that little extra incentive?

I'll stop since this isn't the discussion forums, and conclude by reiterating that for me this set really is a big win on the part of LEGO. I eagerly anticipate its release.

I think that this could have been good if they got rid of the figs altogether. Adding figs just gives them a reason to jack up the price. It's like the fist creator set to have figs(log cabin) this is supposed to draw in little kids who are rich because they want the figs. So ditch the figs so the price is lower and then we'll talk, the model looks good though.

@darnolds - Hmm... true, but I can see why they do it still. Rebel craft would be welcome for me as well, a Nebulon-B Frigate wouldn't be that hard to do in scale I don't think, and in ROTJ you see Nebulon B's engaging in combat with the Executor so that would make sense.

Oh and for the record, I think that Star Destroyer looks abysmal, if that is the final product I am stumped as to why they would include such a thing.

I agree with Dr. Dave, Lego is in a no-win situation with this one. Most people would balk at a $400 UCS set with no minifigs, and if it had exclusive minifigs, Lego would catch hell for that, too. I'm sure the minifigs are there to generate interest with those who would normally skip a model-only type of set, or the aforementioned balkers, but I really doubt it affects the final price tag much; not when a set looks to be around $400.

Sorry everyone, after re-reading my Imperial source-book, the super star destroyers are the length of about twelve
regular star destroyers. I had previously said 3 and 1/4. I guess I wasn't thinking straight and was in awe of the model. Seeing that it has minifigs, I'm guessing the price to be $150 to $250 dollars. If it's any higher than that, I'll be going back to my orignal large purchase for this year. A nintendo 3DS!

NEEDS NEW DESIGN FIGURES! This should not even be a question for Any set over say...$50. Any new set should contain at least 66-75% new designed figures.

Also, Lego should shoot for "Largest Length of any Lego Set Ever!". That way they can impress with a milestone. It will cost $295.

I have two display cabinets full to burst anyway. I love all the Lego Star Wars range including this Super Star Destroyer. But, Like all of the UCS Models I would love to build them but don't want to own them. I'd rather display a nice wide range of beautiful smaller models than 4 or 5 large ones. My Death Star is almost impossible to store behind glass, and I (and especially my wife) hate the collection getting dusty. If money and space were no object then......well.... sign me up for a fleet!

Looks cool!! BTW TRU.com has Lego Pirates of the Carribean. Look under the What's new section under bricks and blocks. It is there under the new Ninjago spinners. I went to my local TRU but they didn't have them so the manager ordered it from the main site and it will be shipped to me for free.

The minifigures make me wonder if perhaps they have a mini scale bridge sitting underneath all those greebles. There is an heck of a lot of space there, you could easily fit a full scale bridge. This would make it more playable, and the fact that there are two different scales wouldn't matter too much, just the same as the bridge on 8039, the Venator class. Without that it does look like an awful lot of grey lego not doing very much. Regardless, awesome build but not necessarily something I want to own.

I did a rough count of this and I came to about 150. And then I went and compared it to the UCS Star Destroyer and on a rough count of that it was around 120. Does this help anybody?
