Eurobricks review links

Posted by Huw, 25 Apr 2011 15:24. Filed under Brickset.

Prompted by the addition yesterday of links to Eurobricks reviews of the PotC sets, Brickset member MERLego (Legolijntje on Eurobricks) has provided me with links to hundreds more reviews, including Technic, Pirates, Creator, Architecture and Indiana Jones. I've added them to the database and you'll see links to them when you browse set listings (example) or view a set's reviews.

So, many thanks to him for doing that. If you'd like to see links to your favourite theme's reviews at Eurobricks, here's how you can do so:

Simply send me a list, in Excel (or CSV) containing the following:

    Set number, Eurobricks thread number

So if the review for set 4181 is at http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=54306, I just need

    4181, 54306

As I've said before, Eurobricks is a great source of pictorial reviews but they can be a little hard to find. By adding links here we expose them to the benefit of both communities.

Thanks Huw. For the people who want the city set reviews; I'm working on them. ;-)
And I want do do some more, but I don't know yet which theme, I'll see.

I just checked out the example. I am really liking it, very convenient.

Keep up the great ideas!!

Was that why I found the site was down for half an hour or so earlier, or was that my internet connection?!

Posted by Snickerdoodle han solo12 in United States, 25 Apr 2011 16:18

Great I just checked it out!

Thanks, Guys!

I tried to view several of the Indy reviews but none of them would load :( Anyone else get this?

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 25 Apr 2011 17:24

Working fine here. What happens?

Posted by bionicleboy95 in N/A, 25 Apr 2011 18:30

I've got a bunch of good ones I'll send your way, straight from the Reviewer's Academy teachers.

Posted by brankell5566 in Canada, 25 Apr 2011 18:52

Wow, this is great! Sometimes it is really hard to find reviews on the Eurobrick forums, much easier to come on
Brickset to check if Eurobrick's has a review on the set or not.

Are you guys aware of the EB set index? It's pretty easy to track reviews down there.

But, as a serial reviewer there, I'm happy to see some integration with this site. Thanks!

^ Thanks Def! I actually had no idea that this 'program' existed.

Posted by K-nut in United States, 25 Apr 2011 20:06

I was wondering when you'd frontpage this. It's very useful. Thanks a ton Huw!

Posted by Starstreak in United States, 25 Apr 2011 22:46

How do I send you the excel sheet you wanted? What email do I send it to?

Posted by bionicleboy95 in N/A, 25 Apr 2011 22:57

Starstreak, there's a RA Teacher's effort going on right now, just post them there. We're sending one long list to Huw.

Posted by Scoutjo5 in Canada, 25 Apr 2011 23:19

@Huw When I click on the Eurobricks sign it says loading but it never ends up loading even if I wait for a long time. I'm not sure why it does this though. By the way, if it worked for me, it seems like it would be a really cool feature. :)

Dear Huw,

On behalf of the Eurobricks Staff (EB) and Reviewers Academy (RA), I will like to extend my thanks to you and your team for starting this new initiative that will truly benefit both LEGO communities. The RA Teachers will be working over the next few days to push out the first package based on the format which you required. Meanwhile, EB Reviews can still be found in the respective theme forum where there is a pinned topic that reflects the up-to-date reviews set index. Thank you.

Posted by Legolijntje in Netherlands, 26 Apr 2011 00:48

@whitefang; great, but you and the other teachers don't have to do city reviws, because I have them almost all. ;-)

Posted by WhiteFang in United Kingdom, 26 Apr 2011 01:00

@MERLego: Thank you very much! The City/Town index is pretty intensive. Do let me know if any further assistance is required.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 26 Apr 2011 03:11

@WhiteFang, thank you!

Posted by Bion in United States, 26 Apr 2011 08:30

@Huw The eurobricks review links will not load for me either.

Posted by K-nut in United States, 26 Apr 2011 08:37

@Bion, they work fine for me. I'm no computer geek, (see my above post) but it might depend on what server you're using. I use google chrome and it works fine.
@WhiteFang, I just wanted to take this time to thank you for your comprehensive reviews. They're what I try to model my reviews after format wise. Thanks a ton!
Now that these links are here, I don't have to go flip through 30 pages to find a link for my review. Again, thanks Huw.

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 26 Apr 2011 08:41

Thanks, @Whitefang, and indeed the EB staff and Reviewers Academy, for working closely with Brickset on this initiative - much appreciated !

The original idea was to add value for Brickset members via provision of links to the reviews while giving the excellent Eurobricks reviews additional exposure and also, importantly, to forge closer links between Brickset and Eurobricks which are both highly respected and prominent online LEGO communities. To his credit, Kim T was extremely supportive when we approached him about this idea initially and hence the push to get this moving.

Cooperation between Brickset and Eurobricks can IHMO only be good for the online LEGO community, so thanks and well done to all concerned.

Thank you guys for implementing this great feature!
Both Brickset and EB are great for looking at set information, so I'm glad to see our two sites working together to benefit everyone. :-)
I've tried it out, and it works great for me.

Posted by Bion in United States, 26 Apr 2011 10:41

@K-nut Okay, thanks.

Posted by erbse2000 in Germany, 26 Apr 2011 14:13

Great idea!

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 26 Apr 2011 14:45

MERlego has just sent me AquaRaiders, City and modular houses, and I've just imported them. We now have around 380 links.

I think I'll need to create an index page for them all so you can see what's been done.

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 26 Apr 2011 15:01

^ Please do, Huw - I was going to send a message asking you to do exactly this. Otherwise there's a significant risk of duplication of effort. Might also be worth capturing pledges of help as well so people can concentrate on filling the gaps.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 26 Apr 2011 15:15

Here you go...

http://www.brickset.com/reviews/eurobricksindex/

Next I will provide a means for people to submit them via the website, so keeping it up to date won't involve me being a bottleneck.

Posted by KimT in Denmark, 26 Apr 2011 16:37

Wow - this sure is a great initiative.
I do wonder why people find this http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=18592
Hard to look at, or even find a review in xD.
Feel free to add any of those to the review links here.
Good job all

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 26 Apr 2011 16:42

Nothing wrong with that page but you do need to know where it, and the other, review indexes are. Is there an index of review indexes?

Posted by WhiteFang in United Kingdom, 26 Apr 2011 20:35

@K-nut: Thank you for showing your appreciation.

@DrDaveWatford: Thank you for showing your support to provide and facilitate this initiative. We (EB) are extremely supportive of this movement as it helps to benefit the communities as a whole. In the Reviewers Academy, we indicate a direct link to the Brickset database under the essential set information at the top of the review to share additional references for the love of our hobby.

@Huw: Thank you again for sharing a page link of the submitted reviews in one index. I don't think we got a master index for all theme reviews. At the moment, those indexes are currently pinned at the top of the respective theme fora.

Posted by KimT in Denmark, 27 Apr 2011 10:57

@Huw I do believe we're working on a master index.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 27 Apr 2011 13:58

^ Excellent. If you are, and it contains links to all set reviews, consider making it consistent in its markup so that, if you were willing, it could be parsed automatically for use here.
