Series 5 in TRU already?

We've received reports that some branches have series 5 figs out at the tills. I checked Portsmouth this morning but there were none there. Have you found them? If so, let us know!

That quick? Target just got Series 4! :O

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 03 May 2011 08:45

Is this just a little beyond crazy...?? Series 4 came out just over 1 month ago!

Posted by Markey in Belgium, 03 May 2011 08:48

Oh man, here we go again! I've only just completed my series4...
What colour are the bags this time?

Posted by vpustote in United States, 03 May 2011 08:52

Pics or it didn't happen

Posted by Delatron in United Kingdom, 03 May 2011 09:50

^ I agree! My local TRU (Derby) has never seemed to have any of the figs so I won't hold my breath for S5 either, but i'll check first chance I get and report back - gives me an excuse to pick up an Alien Conquest set too!

Markey: The bags will be purple

Posted by Matthew in United Kingdom, 03 May 2011 11:26

I only just got off the phone about the Harbour sets, now it's back to 'Your call is important to us' and 'Join the Babies R Us Club'!!!

Posted by derfazoid in Switzerland, 03 May 2011 12:00

Markey and QuickBricks: according to Brickipedia and pics from the Nuremburg Toy Fair, the bags will be light blue

Still waiting for series 4 in Wisconsin

Posted by burakki62 in United Kingdom, 03 May 2011 13:37

I just don't believe this at all... certainly not untill I see pictures.

Posted by atkinsar in United Kingdom, 03 May 2011 13:41

Say it isn't so, it's too early, by a good few months. Sources @Huw, we need sources!

Posted by mo123567 in United States, 03 May 2011 13:47

A rumour once said the bags will be purple but all the pictures I've seen are light blue. They should use all the primary and secondary colors before moving on to alternate shades... not that it really matters that much.

Either way, this story means very little to me until I see some evidence.

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 03 May 2011 14:58

That seems somewhat improbable given how recently the Series 4 Minifigures were released, but when I go to TRU to pick up more Alien Conquest sets I will undoubtedly have a look.

Posted by StudsOnTop.com in United States, 03 May 2011 15:14

@MikeYob - I have seen S4 minifigs in both Appleton Mall and Oshkosh stores. They're right next to the endcaps where the PoC sets are.

Posted by Si_Dorking_Surrey in United Kingdom, 03 May 2011 15:57

Are you guys still interested in series 5? Got all those ages ago, I thought that series 6 was coming out this week*

* This is getting ridicolous.

Posted by Binary Code in United States, 03 May 2011 15:58

I'm gonna need some pics before I start frantically calling my TRU and all that stuff that happens when a new series comes out.

Posted by K-nut in United States, 03 May 2011 16:11

@mikeybob, Target has them. I live in southern Wisconsin by Lake Michigan. Do you live up in northern Wisconsin? I sometimes go to Woodfield to get mine.

@xangodango, I agree. I do really like these but I have no money to spend on them! With Potc, Alien conquest, Kingdoms, Star Wars, Ungh! I hope this is fake...

Posted by freindboy in United States, 03 May 2011 16:39

Yesterday, I asked a TRU employee when they may be coming. He said they are getting a shipment in 2 weeks. Apparently they had already sold some? He said there was a spot on the shelves for them which I didn't see. Expect for the TRU mark-up when they do come.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 03 May 2011 18:30

Well, the message emailed to us was as follows:

"Today I shopped in a TRU store in Watford and I saw LEGO minifigures SERIES 5 box at the till. There is also the LEGO CITY harbour sets in TRU aswell. :)"

Given the second half of the statement is almost certainly true, the first part could be too. He could of course have mistaken series 3 for series 5. So, as this is uncorroborated I can't vouch for its authenticity. Maybe someone in the Watford area can.

Posted by Neon in United States, 03 May 2011 18:30

I find it funny that despite their being pictures everywhere showing the bags being blue some people still think their purple!

Posted by IlovePowerMiners in United Kingdom, 03 May 2011 19:05

@freindboy 2 weeks? I only have 5 S4s! To BrickLink!

Posted by jwsmart in United States, 03 May 2011 20:20

Over all, we've seen 4 series in about 10 months, which means we're looking at about 13-14 weeks between series. Give or take a couple of weeks. We're only what? 6 weeks into the S4 release?

However, I wouldn't be too surprised if LEGO were ramping up the design cycle for these little guys - it seems like they've hit the gold mine with these things. Both S3 and S4 are always on the top 25 sellers at shop.lego.com, and it doesn't look like the market is saturated with them yet.

If you're interested in the Collectable Minifigures, I highly recommend picking up the April issue of BrickJournal. It's got a great interview with the lead designer for the CMS line. As of his interview (seems like it was written in December), the design work for series six was complete, and it was stated that the design process (not the whole thing, just design) takes 2-3 months. So again, it's not unthinkable that S5 is primed to hit store shelves soon...

Posted by sinfanti in Taiwan, Province of China, 03 May 2011 20:35

I just got my Hazmat guys yesterday, so I guess I'm ready for the next series. I don't care about the color of the bags, but I would love to see more purple Lego elements.

Posted by Zackula in United States, 03 May 2011 21:11

Wow, I haven't even seen any series 4 anywhere. I probably won't have any money left for s5. Oh wait, I never really liked them or planned to get very many. >:)

Posted by teal93mr2 in N/A, 03 May 2011 21:26

I really thought S4 was going to be the best series yet, but overall it is very disappointing. S5 has about 4-5 I definitely want, and the rest are just re-treads or just plain boring.

Posted by yys4u in United States, 03 May 2011 21:36

There's no way this is true. I don't doubt the figs are ready to go, (design, molds, packing, whatever is needed) but I don't think there is any reason LEGO would even begin to distribute them UNLESS for some reason they're planning on ramping up distribution to maybe 1 series every other month.

After watching that documentary on the forums and learning how expensive it is to produce a mold, I think there's no reason to allow only 2 months of sales (yes I know they can still sell series 4, because series 3 is still being sold) but the sales will definitely go down. Hypothetically if this IS true, I would immediately stop buying series 4, where as if its a a hoax or someone mistaken, I will probably still buy another 20-30 figs from series 4.

Posted by heather12az in United States, 03 May 2011 22:55

Though not impossible, it would seem unlikely. I just checked my distributor and they don't even have the S5 available for presale yet. Although TRU often gets these in stock 4-6 weeks prior to my receiving them through the distributor the presale usually starts 6-8 weeks prior to TRU receiving their first shipments. That being said, I hope they are not out already, I can barely withstand the deluge of POTC sets and the Star Wars sale....

Posted by Seagull in United States, 03 May 2011 23:00

No pics on the web yet, nothing on eBay. Probably a mistake.

Posted by legohpcity in Sweden, 04 May 2011 04:10

Probably a mistake...

Posted by QuickBricks in United States, 04 May 2011 06:51

Derfazoid, thanks for the correction :)

Posted by brixton in Canada, 04 May 2011 07:44

With the first 4 series' I liked anywhere between 10 to 13 minifigures from each collection. With series 5 there are only 4 to 6 minifigures that I like. On top of that the price has gone up for every single series of minifigures. The quality of minifigures for series 4 was very poor. Keeping all of those factors in mind, I won't be buying series 5. I'd rather spend on the LEGO Creator Hill house, Alien Conquests and City harbour sets.

Posted by chalous in United States, 04 May 2011 11:35

My 6 year olds made the mistake of calling their series 3 packs series 5, and here is why. At a glance the the first thing they focused on was the big "5+" in the upper right corner. So they were telling friends they we picking from Series 5. I guess its because the big 5+ stands out better than the circle with the smaller word "series" and the number of the set, especially from a distance. And in my boys case they dont connect the pack colors to the series number either.
So someone prob seen the other series, took a quick look, maybe from a distance, and thought Series 5, like my kids did.

Im like everyone else, the timing is way off and no pic = not real

My 2 cents worth of opinion. : )

Posted by bahnstormer in Germany, 04 May 2011 12:04

i just called tru watford and they dont have them in stock

they also said they have no influence over the minifigs as the stock is managed by 3rd party merchandisers

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 04 May 2011 13:54

I think @chalous's theory is the most likely explanation for the supposed sighting. The 5+ icon could easily be mistaken for a series indicator. It makes sense - there's no way Lego would send out series 5 boxes so soon after a series 4 launch, to a few random TRU stores in England. I think you solved the puzzle! :)

Posted by The Green Brick Giant in United States, 04 May 2011 14:33

I bought a bunch of series 3 at TRU with the BOGO50% on sale in the USA a few weeks ago. I wish I bought the cyborg and woman snowboarder, but oh well.

I really wish they would get more boxes of series 4, they have only gotten two boxes in the last several weeks.

Posted by LegoKitfisto15 in United States, 04 May 2011 15:33

@LegoCoastguard: Good one! Their automated service is annoying! But for Lego Minifigures Series 5 it might be worth it. : ) However, I agree that its too early for them to be out in my opinion.

Posted by lukehankenobi in United Kingdom, 04 May 2011 19:12

Everyone Calm down now.

PS I have some pics of series 8!
Theres a Village Idiot, Jesus, Winston Churchill, St. Pepper, Marylin Monroe, The Pope, A Bear ( With Poo), Forest Gump, A Rasta, A Hillbilly, A Transvestite, God (basically Hagrid in White), A Pantomime Horse in Two Packs, A war reporter and Osama Bin Wotshisface

Posted by R4-G9 in Canada, 04 May 2011 21:26

^ as if. post pics if you really have them! basides i don't think that lego would do anything that is related to any religion, or osama bin laden.

Posted by xcrossx in United Kingdom, 05 May 2011 03:38

Haha, I'd definitely buy those. I'd like to see Gandhi in there too! ;-).
How many series did they originally say they were going to do?
I guess the theory about seeing the 5 in the corner could be true although I don't see why he/she wouldn't have seen the colour of the packet and realised it was one of the other ones.

Posted by yys4u in United States, 05 May 2011 04:09

@R4-G9 - come on dude, he's obviously trolling us right now lol.
No one believes him. Would be a nice custom series though

Posted by Be-Burger in Israel, 05 May 2011 06:04

LOL I want series 8! Seriously though I doubt I will get many of the Series 5, I don't like them that much.

Posted by jagdjh in United States, 05 May 2011 07:29

It is the time of year for graduations. The grad minifig would be more relevant if it comes out sooner than later.

Posted by Delatron in United Kingdom, 05 May 2011 08:27

@LukeHanKenobi - I would love some of those! Such a shame that most are about as likely to happen as me finding freshly laid rocking-horse poo ;)

Posted by vpustote in United States, 05 May 2011 08:38

@jagdjh I am definitely on the same wavelength as you. I am excited to pick up a few graduation minifigures for me and my girlfriend. We are both graduating in June.

Posted by Si_Dorking_Surrey in United Kingdom, 05 May 2011 14:00

lol @lukehankenobi - that sounds like the best series so far!

Posted by vamproe in United States, 05 May 2011 16:18

@ mikeyob depending on where in WI you are...the TRU in appleton had series 4..... picked up 3 hazmat guys :)

Posted by Delatron in United Kingdom, 06 May 2011 04:22

No series 5 at TRU Derby - Series 4 by the tills for the first time though, so I think it's a case of mistaken identity. Got two AQ sets though, so the trip wasn't wasted!

Posted by lukehankenobi in United Kingdom, 06 May 2011 10:29

@R4D9 - Pics coming next week
@Delatron - Any Freshly laid Rocking horse Poo at TRU?
@XCROSSX - Gandhi would be awsome!
@Everyone - Any more fun ideas? I think i'll start a forum topic

Posted by voypro in United States, 06 May 2011 12:40

Speaking for the Hillbilly community, is about time our people were represented. BTW the minifig accessory would clearly be a moonshine jug.

Honesty it would be neat to see them start doing more soldiers: US world war I, British commando, French resistance fighter, Russian soldier, Japanese pilot, etc

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 06 May 2011 15:44

BTW Night bus now on TRU.com $34.99

Posted by legohpcity in Sweden, 08 May 2011 01:29

^ You have right! :o :o :o

Posted by Zackula in United States, 08 May 2011 15:52

@voypro
LEGO has a policy against too much violence and war in their products. I don't think they will be making soldiers outside of a licensed theme anytime soon.

the for 5 is light blue and six is purple
