Sad face :(

If I had known about this set, I would have definitely waited on the Alien Conquest and Kingdoms. But next month is my bday, so that's an excuse to drive a long ways to the Lego store.

Posted by homoludens in Germany, 10 May 2011 14:22

Been a lucky month so far with my girl-friend not seeing all the boxes that I got last week - Tantive IV from Lego and a number of Pixar Cars 2 for my son. She knows about the Pet Shop order though, can't wait to build this one.
A big thank you to TLG for keeping this one under wraps so long.

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 10 May 2011 15:01

Wow, I feel sorry for you people obsessed with the Modular Houses. I've spent over $150 in just the past month which is rare for me, so I'll pass (even if I had the money, I'd still pass).

@Huw - Wouldn't it be nice if there was surgery for credit cards to relief people of debt ;)

Posted by vpustote in United States, 10 May 2011 15:06

@Jarod, are you saying $150 is a lot for spending on Lego?

I spent $700+ on just POTC and then a couple hundred more on Alien Conquest/Kingdoms.

Which reminds me, I just go the POTC xbox 360 game and got a free mini-figure from ToysRUs. But over at Target they are giving away the POTC Cabin's Cabin (11.99) free with a purchase of Lego POTC game.

Posted by vpustote in United States, 10 May 2011 15:07

@LegoCoastGuard, what do you mean it's blank? Nothing comes up for you?

It's the Pet Shop set with country set to UK.

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 10 May 2011 15:08

@vpustote - I'm only a TFOL and without a job so yeah that's a lot for me. Plus, I forgot about the AT-AT I bought along with Luke's Landspeeder so I really spend $250.

Posted by M-Tron Hero Kodiak in United States, 10 May 2011 15:14

Don't know if I should order it now, or wait till end of may when I go to the LEGO store...

Posted by vpustote in United States, 10 May 2011 15:17

@Jarod, $250 sounds more like it. Oh and yeah, this is the most I've spent in a long time.

@M-tron Free shipping if you wait, it's $12.95 for standard shipping.

Posted by peoplesfarmer7 in United States, 10 May 2011 15:40

I purchased mine last night even, and its on its way!

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 10 May 2011 16:06

It looks cool, especially the fish tank but I have no room for it. My closet is bursting at the seams with unbuilt sets and empty boxes.

Posted by rocao in United States, 10 May 2011 16:28

I have mine in hand bought from the LEGO store this morning :)

Posted by stephenvw in United States, 10 May 2011 16:32

Does this mean the fire brigade will discontinue soon? It's been out since sept. of 09 i believe.

Posted by hleonffu in United States, 10 May 2011 18:22

@stephenvw, the manager at the LEGO store I frequent told me that it is due to be discontinued.

Posted by jonboy2000 in United Kingdom, 10 May 2011 18:29

saw it built up in the lego store today. It's a beauty!

Posted by AZFIREWOLF in United States, 10 May 2011 18:48

Already got mine. Wife is out tonight with the girls so that means plenty of building tome for me. Sad I didn't see any of the Kingdoms sets that I really wanted, but there is always next time.
Built all of the new launch sets. Quick builds.

Posted by stephenvw in United States, 10 May 2011 19:01

@hleonffu, thanks for your answer. Do you know if it will be a month, two, months, or just this year?

Posted by Zackula in United States, 10 May 2011 19:39

@vpustote I agree that $150 is a lot to spend on LEGO. Especially without a job

Posted by vpustote in United States, 10 May 2011 19:51

@Zackula, actually I don't have a job either. I'm buying all this on government cheese.

As bad as that may sound, at least I'm not spending it on drugs or drinking with it, am I right?

Posted by brixton in Canada, 10 May 2011 20:04

The Pet Shop looks amazing. I'll probably pass though as the modular houses are expensive and I tend to be pickier with them as I cannot (read: don't want to) spend that much on LEGO even though it is more than worth it.

Alien Conquests, Light House Island, the new Kingdoms sets and all of the City Harbour sets are all out at Toys R Us in Canada. They finally have the Rocket Centre set from the City Space theme too.

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 10 May 2011 20:07

@Zachula - My birthday just occured and that's why I spent $250. I usually don't spend that much.

@vpustote - I don't mean to be rude but then how do you support yourself, the government doesn't give people that much do they?

Posted by pookie in United States, 10 May 2011 21:28

Just picked up my today. I guess I'll be working overtime for the next couple of weeks.

Posted by Skut in Australia, 10 May 2011 21:33

At AUD270, the great Aussie Lego rip off continues! That is USD290, or approximately DOUBLE what US consumers are paying, or GBP180 or 50% MORE than UK consumers! Anyone in Oz who buys it at this price is a mug! When is TLG going to get with the program on Aussie pricing? The appreciation in the Aussie dollar should be good news for everyone including TLG - they can drop prices and still preserve margin unless Lego Australia is paying for its stock in AUD which I seriously doubt. Or has Lego Aus failed to hedge against a rising Aussie dollar? TLG seems determined to drop the ball on this one. They are going to kill Lego as a retail brand in Australia unless they shape up soon. People know when they're being had - even non-AFOLs shop around on the net and they will see what a rip off this is.

Posted by vpustote in United States, 10 May 2011 22:13

@Jarod98, I'm a veteran, and I go to school full time... I've been milking the GI Bill since 2006. Haha, why get a job when I can get paid to be educated and build Legos all day!

Posted by war44lock in New Zealand, 10 May 2011 22:28

Skut, I agree, New Zealand is no better and I buy very selectively as a result, actually most of what I buy now is second hand, excellent condition Lego from other adult collectors. I just got a bulk lot of nine Star Wars sets from 2006, sold four of them separately and got my money back! So five sets for free! Anyway this means TLG gets very little of my money. Just saw the new POTC sets yesterday and I'll probably just get the two smallest ones. Can't wait for Kingdoms though, they look so good I will have to have some of them.

Posted by TopperTwist in United States, 10 May 2011 22:31

May 28th, 2011. My birthday present is staring me in the face with this post :O

Posted by daniel.eggelton in Australia, 11 May 2011 05:04

@Skut I hear you and agree. It's just disgusting. There really is no excuse for it. All I can say is thank goodness for Bricklink. I have 2 on the way for much less than it would cost me to buy 1 from the Australian LEGO Shop@Home.

Posted by sebulba in Australia, 11 May 2011 05:11

@Skut, yes I agree. Lego in Australia is a rip-off. Bad foreign-exchange risk management at TLC, I guess. I'll be getting the Pet Shop from the US. There are services that buy Lego from the US and ship to Australia for a commission. Utilize them!

Posted by dustinmroberts in United States, 11 May 2011 07:37

@vpustote "But over at Target they are giving away the POTC Cabin's Cabin (11.99) free with a purchase of Lego POTC game."

They're actually giving away ANY set that's 11.99 or under with the purchase of the game.

Posted by vpustote in United States, 11 May 2011 08:09

@dustinmroberts, I knew that. I just didn't think any other set that was $11.99 or under would be nearly as cool as the Captains' Cabin. But I could very well be wrong.

Thanks for reminding me though, I'm probably going to see if they have any cool sets this week. I want to buy a second copy of the game, so that we can play two players at home.

****I'm still surprised that the game being released isn't part of the top news****

Posted by Be-Burger in Israel, 11 May 2011 08:38

@Skut, yes that is unfair, but here in Israel, LEGO sets are 4x the price of USA sets (yes seriously) so you shouldn't be so quick to complain. 190 NIS (approx. $54) for a $15 set just isn't fair!

LEGO doesn't even ship directly to Israel anyways, which sucks. Its difficult being a LEGO fan here.

Posted by sidersdd in United States, 11 May 2011 09:10

@Skut - a major portion of my set sales on Bricklink are to Oz. They're my best customers.

Posted by collectormom in United States, 11 May 2011 09:10

@vpustote: what do you mean, you can play with 1 or 2 players with 1 game. You don't need another copy of the game for 2 players to play.

Posted by vpustote in United States, 11 May 2011 09:14

@collectormom, I know we can... but we like to play on different tv's and shout across the room, "Stop killing me!" haha

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 11 May 2011 09:36

@vpustote - Ah, so you have that thing where if you serve 20 years or more you get paid for life. My neighbor has that same thing. Boy, what a life ;)

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 11 May 2011 11:14

@vpustote, you asked "I'm still surprised that the game being released isn't part of the top news".

Our focus is on real bricks here at Brickset. None of the admins or correspondents have an interest in these games: we'd rather spend out spare time playing with (or buying) the real thing, so that does tend to influence the news we cover.

Besides, aren't these games all the same bar the theme? :-)

Posted by vpustote in United States, 11 May 2011 12:09

@Huw, I kind of figured exactly what you said. But I was referring to the free Jack Sparrow minifigure at select locations, and the Target deal of free Lego set of $11.99 or less when you buy the game.

You know kind of like the free Lego minifgure when you buy News of the World or The Sun. :)

*Also, my Toys-R-Us won't allow buying of the Jack Sparrow minifigure by himself. But they do allow people to still pay $5 bucks to reserve the game, then buy it and get the free minifigure.

Posted by pterribilis in Australia, 11 May 2011 13:18

I claim the position of #2 of people who clicked on "own" as I put in my order around 9pm on May the 9th. Used $15.00 of VIP credit too....too bad they weren't offering free shipping at the time.

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 11 May 2011 13:23

@pterribilis - Congradulations! ;)

Posted by LEGO_Lord in United States, 11 May 2011 14:41

Orange fish!

Posted by ditonthouikwel in Belgium, 11 May 2011 15:04

@skut , I think everybody except Americans (those with the lowest price) agree with skut, Lego should set a single global price and only adjust for taxes. Anything else is just plain discriminatory, and is definately a mark against Lego.
I did order the pet shop yesterday morning though... shame on me..

Posted by jonboy2000 in United Kingdom, 11 May 2011 17:53

I hate to rub it in but I'm off to the states tomorrow. So I'll be getting 2 Pet shops at 20 pound cheaper than the UK RRP and the tower bridge at 50 pounds off. Oh and I also finally get to pick up my 2 new cafe corners and 6 luke Maquettes which have been sitting at a friends for 2 years : ) Happy Days!

Posted by Si_Dorking_Surrey in United Kingdom, 11 May 2011 18:11

^ Carrying that lot back you're likely to get done by customs, who'll charge you 20% VAT on top of what you paid, plus customs duty etc. So be careful!

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 11 May 2011 21:48

@jonboy2000 - Wow, that's quite a load, like what xangodango said, be careful! ;)

Posted by uuesther in United States, 12 May 2011 06:43

Free standard shipping with $75 order 8am est May 16 - 5pm est May 31.

that's what I read from early summer catalog.... so if you can wait a couple of days, you save on shipping fee for this new modular house.

my first post:)

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 12 May 2011 09:30

@uuesther - Welcome! :)

Posted by i like guitars in United States, 12 May 2011 13:49

Seeing this set makes me want to pick up the fire house and grand emporium right now. Love the detail of these sets but 150 makes me second guess if I should pick them up.

Posted by Zacherano in United States, 14 May 2011 12:05

This set looks so great, but I may have to wait or not get it at all - my budget is already stretched thin for Lego this year what with all the Harry Potter, Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, and minifigure options! Lego has really outdone themselves. I have all the modular buildings released thus far, so that's either a reason to buy or not to buy... that is my tantalizing choice. I think Lego is testing our self-restraint. ;-)

Posted by Plastic_Nurak_80 in Italy, 16 May 2011 11:32

Strangely, I didn't see it in the LEGOLAND LEGO shop in Billund, friday.

Posted by pookie in United States, 17 May 2011 13:30

I know $150 is a lot but if you look at the amount per piece and the new elements in this set then $150 is a bargain. I for one regret not getting the Market Street and Cafe Corner when they first came out because I didn't want to pay $150 at the time. So now wanting these two modular buildings I have spent $500 to rebuild both sets. I learned not to pass on these modular buildings so I get 2 of each. Besides you have 2 years to save up before they get discontinued.

Posted by kenhew in Malaysia, 17 May 2011 18:39

Yeah, good thing about these modulars is they have a 2-year production period before TLG discontinues them...you don't have to get them immediately just as they're fresh out of the oven if you're too stretched on your wallet. I know it's hard but patience is a virtue :)
