    30051: Mini X-wing
    Star Wars/Mini Building Set, 2011
    More details...
    ©2011 LEGO Group

Just in case you haven't heard, there's good news and bad:

The goods news is that there's free LEGO with The Sun newspaper this week! The bad news is that there's no voucher redeem offer which means you have to collect the set in WHS or TRU on the day. This is extremely inconvenient for me given I'm 5 miles from the nearest WHS and go nowhere near one on my way to work. My local WHS said they got 4 boxes in today and expect them all to go by lunchtime.

Today it's this mini X-Wing. Find out what's coming later in the week on atkinsar's BrickList.

I was outside waiting at 08:30 this morning with 7 others for WHSmiths to open in Swindon. Managed to grab a couple of papers but the way they were flying off the shelves means they will indeed be gone by midday.

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 14 May 2011 05:35

If you're in Ireland, they can be collected from Smyths and participating Tesco outlets. :)

Posted by Markey in Belgium, 14 May 2011 06:01

Shame about the lack of posting option for this promo. I'm lucky to have a WHSmith in walking distance from my house.

Posted by Hob in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 06:17

I have reported as news but the guy in my local WHSmiths said that the pomotion would run next week as well as coming week with 2 new sets AT-ST and a desert glider which i assume is 30090 Aeroplane, as the other set is a desert rover. I checked the brickset for desert glider and nothing comes up. He said they would reissue some of this weeks sets for the following week. Hope that makes sense.

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 06:25

Seems to be a popular promotion - the combination of the X-Wing plus a 20% discount at TRU persuaded me to visit my 'local' TRU; my boy and I got an X-wing each before hitting the LEGO aisles. BY the time we left at around 11 a.m. the store had already given out a whole box of X-wings and they were looking in the back for more. So don't delay if you wish to partake in this offer....

Posted by MinifigureMan in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 06:27

Aw, that X-Wing looks good! I'll just have to only get the Jack tomorrow.

Posted by TheKingOfBuilding in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 06:31

BAD NEWS: I bought my Sun at WHS to see if they would give me the X-wing while I buy the paper (I was hoping I could tear out the coupon later and come back for an extra X-wing) but the till assistant flicked through to page 15 and SCRIBBLED OVER THE COUPON!

Oh well, at least I have now got four X-wings...

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 14 May 2011 06:35

^@thekingofbuilding in all fairness, they're supposed to take out the coupon or make in unusable to prevent people from taking negative advantage of the offer. you can't really expect them to fall for that trick! :)

Posted by TheKingOfBuilding in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 06:38

I managed to get four X-wings and (after building the 1st one), did a little "Blindfold Build" with the second X-wing! It was quite fun ,so if you get a couple of the same promo sets, I would defantly recommend trying a "Blindfold Build" with them!

Posted by OllieL in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 07:03

I didn't realise the packaging would be different from the old x-wing (the one in the picture shown). It's so cool that I have both like I have both of the 30005 stormtrooper speeder bikes.

Posted by bluefox1966 in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 08:57

I manage to get 15 sets at Brislington Bristol at 1:30pm Today. The Girl who served me says they still had 3 full boxes.

Posted by Delatron in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 09:02

Got two (WH Smiths, Derby Westfield), there were piles of Suns out, so they were expecting a run on them I think. They scribbled over my coupons, but thats understandable - when they did the toy story promo I really got away with that one, using the same coupons at Smiths and the Disney store!

Gutted about the lack of postal option. I can get to TRU or Smiths tomorrow for Jack, not so bothered about Black Pearl on Monday, but the Ninjago sets are firm wants and I work nowhere near a SMiths or TRU. My only option is to go out of my way on route home and hope that TRU has a few left at 6pm. Fingers crossed.....

There is one like this for tomorrow's too ending tonight. If you can and you got it at the end it is still fairly cheap. Although they did pay for all of them there should be a limit so this doesn't happen and I am sorry for your son. This happened to me before and I know how it is. i am also a TFOL and you may want to get down earlier in future.

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 09:20

@Huw - Are you going to add this to the database as set '30051-2' since the bag color is different?

Posted by Rich69 in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 09:30

Okay to those that have not not got their X-wing. I would suggest contacting Sun customer service. I did this with the Mirror offers previously.

I contacted them, they indicated they were sorry I was not able to collect in store, demand for these was extremely high.

They asked to please send my token (orignal, not defaced or photocopied) to them at the address they provided and they indicated they would send one out to me stocks permitting, they did however indicate I could only redeem three tokens, but that was the mirror where you could send off for the complete collection.

I sent 2 tokens and about 1 week later recieved the the 2 Lego packets I was missing, result as far as I was concerned.

Posted by alijoezac in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 09:48

@Rich 69 - I agree. When calling you might like to quote their own advert on page 4 of the tvbiz supplement ... "Free LEGO toy for every reader" ... I'm sure there will be small print but that's what it says.

Posted by Pulpdiction in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 10:32

It was reported on MSE 3 days ago, as I posted in the other new item that there was no post in. Went to WH Smith and bought 2 papers, to get one each for my boys, they just handed them over with the paper, so went round the corner and sent the mrs back in with the tokens and got 2 more: Result!

Guy serving said someone went in at about 9.00am and bought 20 copies for his free x-wings, quite a squadron.

Posted by Red Five Standing By in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 11:47

Thankfully after the disappointment of the recent Lego.com promotion (no poster or figure for me) I was able to secure 2 X-Wings today (both for my own collection). TRU Lincoln had about fifty left when I went in at 1pm.

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 12:01

The TRU in Bedford had run out by 1pm when we got there :-(
Will have to try harder tomorrow ...

Posted by Zacherano in United States, 14 May 2011 12:03

I thought this little X-Wing was so cool I bought one on Amazon over a year ago. :-)

Too bad we in the U.S. don't get all these promotions, but I understand we get all kinds of other benefits. Good luck getting the ones you want!

Posted by Cam'n'Stu in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 12:11

TRU on the edge of Shrewsbury still had them at 3pm.

Posted by Pantboy in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 12:20

there was about 20 people outside my local WHS when i turned up at 8.59 this morning, all of them went straight to the tills, and when i left the queue was even longer, they were flying off the shelves, my son was very happy to get his, there are so many adverts about this offer on kids TV at the moment every kid must be driving their parents crazy, i know mine are.

Posted by legomaniac101 in United States, 14 May 2011 12:33

Why don't they do promotions with newspapers here in the us?

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 12:39

@legomaniac101 - Newspaper aren't of high demand in the US at all, so that may be one reason.

Posted by Doctor Leg O'Brick in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 13:10

LukeSkywalker, I just asked for a lego X-Wing and when I paid for it, no one scribbled it out!

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 14:05

I went in to Toys R Us to get one, and also saw two other people try to collect them with small children, but they had all run out. Apparently there were some people queuing very early before opening, and suspicions of multiple paper purchases to get lots of 60p sets. I love collecting lego, but there are always people who will try to beat/cheat the system, even if its at the expense of disappointing kids.
I put pack searching of minifigs by middle aged men in the same bracket!

Posted by Huffy1968 in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 14:06

While I love the idea of these promotions, their execution leaves a lot to be desired - and has surely contributed to the large number of 30051 sets listed on eBay this evening. These offers should be mail-in or limited to one per person.

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 14 May 2011 14:26

@doctorlegobrick hmm, okay. just sayin that in my experience with these promotions, in tesco they cut out the voucher with scissors if you buy the paper there, and at smyths they ask to hand them over too. i think it's fair enough since that's the idea, one polybag per voucher.

Posted by MinifigureMan in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 14:27

I am worried, want to get the Jack tomorrow but need to hurry to Winchester, will get it in Smith's!

Posted by Steno1234 in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 14:30

Rofl,Went out this morning to buy the sun, when i came back i released my dad had already got a copy of the sun,so i had 2 vouchers and forgot to cut the other one out,so in the end i just got one X-Wing. To be honest i hate star wars...Especially the lego series

Posted by Matthew in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 14:51

@Steno1234 - I didn't manage to get todays - if you hate SW and have a spare please think of me!

Posted by Hob in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 14:52

I don't think people should be causing such a fuss. I wanted one so i got up early and went down to WHS and got 3. If you missed out then thats the nature of the offer. Does matter if you got 1 or 50 the paper still gets the money. Some places still had boxes left way past midday others didn't many people here said WHS or TRU was too far away and didn't bother.

Posted by brickzone in Ireland, 14 May 2011 14:55

@LukeSkywalker - Do you know what price the paper is here in Ireland, and can you just buy the paper at Tesco then get the Lego at the same time?

Posted by goldfish in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 15:06

@Hob, 'I wanted one so got up early and got 3', 'thats the nature of the offer'.
perhaps, but its also the nature of the UK unfortunately.

Posted by bluefox1966 in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 15:11

As my local store had 3 boxes left at 1:30pm

Posted by bluefox1966 in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 15:14

@Hob I agree. Get up early you get one, stay in bed you don't. Simple.

Posted by Pantboy in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 15:20

^ with sunday opening laws, the shops don't open till 10.30/11 o'clock so you don't even have to get up early tomorrow, not that i ever get a lie in with a 6 and 2 year old sons :-)

Posted by bluefox1966 in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 15:29

WHSmiths and TRU Sunday opening times 11.00 - 17.00.

Posted by Doctor Leg O'Brick in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 15:35

@LukeSkywalker, sorry if I offended you, I was just saying that there is a possiblity that they won't damage your voucher.

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 15:42

Keep it civil folks. That applies to everyone.

Posted by MinifigureMan in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 15:49

@Doctor Leg O'Brick-Sorry to hear that. :( They should have been stopped by their parent or whoever was with them. Also can't we just stop the argument and stick to your viewpoints?

Posted by Hob in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 15:57

I plan on getting as many POTC sets tomorrow as possible. The figure looks great and the boat/raft is fantastic. I also plan on getting to WHS at the time of opening. I don't feel like i'm taking away from anyone. I agree that the sun should run the mail away option but that's more expensive in the long run if you want mulitiple sets.
Get there early and don't miss out that's the best plan. My wife says she saw on ebay a seller selling all of the sets in one lot so some staff out there must be taking them.

Posted by Huffy1968 in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 16:01

@bluemoose: Fair enough, and for my part I apologise. I just like these promotions to be fair to everyone, which they clearly are not. When I told my 5-year-old son at lunchtime today we were probably too late to get one, he just said, "Shall we build one Daddy?" So I downloaded the instructions from the Lego site and we did just that. :)

Posted by bluefox1966 in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 16:04

^ Agreed Hob. Definitely running out far too quickly in some stores.

Posted by Matthew in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 16:16

^^ You've just made me feel guilty for something I haven't even done yet - 10 Jack Sparrows ;-)

Posted by DOLEGO1986 in United Kingdom, 14 May 2011 16:21

I'm going to try and get Captain Jack and his boat. But if not I'll get one of the POTC sets that he is featured in -which is pretty much all of them!

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 14 May 2011 17:11

@doctorlegobrick no offence taken, sorry if I gave that impression! :) it's all good! :)

@brickzone the sun cost me €1 today, I think it's a little bit cheaper during the week but I'm not sure. Yep you can just pick up a couple of papers at tesco and collect the Lego if you pay at the till, that's what I did, they'll tell you if they've run out of Lego sets so it's a good way of making sure you're not wasting money on the newspaper! ;)

Posted by wildcherryp3psi in United States, 14 May 2011 23:12

5 miles isn't that far to get these, I live in the US and can't get these unless my brother or another family member can get them for me :-(

Posted by jamzee44 in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 02:47

Just incase there was any debate, it is collect again for Jack Sparrow today, the set is not in the paper :(

Posted by kempo81 in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 05:28

10.26 outside WHS in Swindon and there is a queue of 50+ people!!!

Posted by jamzee44 in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 05:29

Huge queue in Taunton already, 100 or more easily

Posted by mrwhizzard in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 05:36

Not surprised, some TV channels have had the promotional advert running twice in one advert break !!

Posted by MinifigureMan in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 05:41

Worried about Winchester, got up early to go but hopefully no queues.

Posted by collect-that! in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 05:55

I was up early this morning and the queues were huge, and I live 30 seconds walk from W H Smiths but I managed to snag a couple for the collection!
I've got a couple of Jack Sparrows spare as i'm not a big POTC fan, if anybodys missed out I will trade for -

Brickmaster Atlantis Neptune Sub
Brickmaster Prince of Persia
Lego Universe Astronaut
Lego Universe Rocket
Castle Target Practise
Castle Attack Wagon
Ninjago Blue Ninja
Atlantis Octopus
World Racers powerboat

Since I live so close to W H Smiths if anybody wants sets later in the week let me know and I will try and help out for you!!

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 15 May 2011 06:19

Wow, queues that long!? That's amazing.
@brickzone The news of the world costs €1.50. makes buying extras a bit expensive, but still well worth it for a tricorne-wearing Jack Sparrow + boat + bottle.

Posted by Jonny 2 Scarves in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 06:24

There were about 15 people waiting outside my tiny Smiths to get the Lego. I thought that was crazy, but reading that some people were in a queue of 50 or more people makes me think I was lucky!

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 06:32

No queues in WHSmith Amersham this morning. And as well as the Jack minifig sets they had X-Wings left.....

Posted by avacadoturban in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 06:36

Between 30-50 people outside of WHSmith Plymouth city centre! An old man causing some trouble, as well as a short fat guy in striped t-shirt threatening me and another woman - something about us "not being in the queue" when we were. Shame, as it's only a toy at the end of the day.

Posted by bionic force in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 06:44

@Jonny 2 Scarves, where is your local Smiths, I had the same at mine in Fleet.
Good figure, but the boats a bit rubbish, I wrote a full review over on the pagey thing

Posted by CommanderRaab in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 06:57

I was absolutely gutted that I missed the x-wing yesterday when the wife came home and said "Oh I forgot to get the newspaper with the x-wing thingie" :O

Anyway, I went off to get the POTC set at WH Smith in Fort Kinnaird, Edinburgh, and when I got there the guy said they had loads of the x-wings left. There is a whole box of them, plus a couple of boxes of the POTC set. So if you live nearby head down there soon as they are handing them out. I bought one newspaper and he gave me 2 of each, not bad for a £1

Posted by akealey in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 07:32

I just got captain Sparrow and his boat on ebay for £3 Buy It Now, £4 including postage. As I live 20 miles away from my nearest smiths and 70 from a Toyr r Us this is much cheaper than £1 for NOTW, £5 for petrol there and back and £1 for car park! (or £9 for bus return ticket!!). Looking at the other prices I was lucky to get this, however I think for a lot of people keeping an eye on ebay for a bargain is the best option!

Posted by MinifigureMan in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 08:27

Got Sparrow, he is brilliant! If you can't decide on whether to get it or not I would recommend so, i got the paper and the Jack then ditched the paper thus saving my dignity! Anyway, it is fantastic for a mini-set.

Posted by Jameswh in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 09:10

My local WH Smith had no NOTW left but still had a few Capt Jack's left which they were selling for £1 each. I was quite happy to buy one. There were quite a few people buying them too.

Posted by legomatt in United Kingdom, 15 May 2011 13:49

This (Jack Sparrow) was the only model i really wanted... and yes, all my WHS were closed on Sunday. So, i've missed it. Why oh why, is the Rum always gone... :o(

Posted by legoandmcflurrygod1628 in United Kingdom, 16 May 2011 11:47

this is stupid, why isn't there an option to collect teh coupons and send away for them like in the Mirror promos it's ridiculous! :(

Posted by rockbrick in Gibraltar, 19 May 2011 10:07

I was at gatwick airport when these came out but the WHSs there weren't stocking them... had to be a highstreet one or a TRU ... ;(
