    4000001: Moulding Machines
    Miscellaneous/LEGO Inside Tour Exclusive, 2011
    More details...
    ©2011 LEGO Group

I've written about the Inside Tours before and as you may recall attendees are presented with an exclusive model at the end of them. The first tour of 2011 has just taken place and Brickset member torviag attended.

I haven't been very impressed with the previous models but this one, of old and new moulding machines, is absolutely fantastic, and with just 68 made will surely become one of the most sought after and rare models ever.

WOW! This set looks awesome! Only 68 that's pretty incredible...

Posted by richselby in United Kingdom, 19 May 2011 03:56

Ooh, that's nice. And a decent piece count too.

Posted by Nesquik in United Kingdom, 19 May 2011 04:30

Thats an interesting model - styled almost like the 'Architecture' series. It'd make a nice collectors item/curio, but obviously because of its scale and subject matter I wouldn't be overly excited about building it unless the moel was constructed with inner-features of the real machines.

It must cost them a fortune to do a run of 68!
So if they can do a pointless short run like this, no more excuses for them not doing any of the sets we _really_ want them to do!

Posted by Markey in Belgium, 19 May 2011 06:07

^ the tour cost around £1500/person, so they'll get the money back for these sets quite easily :)

Posted by BrianOg in France, 19 May 2011 06:46

@xangodango

I think the point is to give tourgoers an unforgettably unique set to take away with themselves. And besides, if there are no ultra rare colours or pieces from moulds not currently in production the only extra cost involved is in selecting parts - which is negligible. You or I could design those models now on (I'll leave it to the experts to figure out whether there are any parts or colours otherwise unavailable used here) LDD and order them from lego.com, we'e even get printed instructions and box.

Been a couple of years that i want to do this tour...
but i will wait my son (5) grows up a little bit, and go with him for his 7th or 8th birthday.
Give me more time to save up as well!! :)

Posted by bluemoose in United Kingdom, 19 May 2011 07:31

That set is fab; I'm very impressed ... (goes off to check the schedule for Inside Tours for the rest of the year) ...

Posted by Zackula in United States, 19 May 2011 08:06

Maybe I could do this tour while I'm backpacking across Europe in college. ;)

Posted by Legolijntje in Netherlands, 19 May 2011 08:40

I hope he can make a photo review ;-)

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 19 May 2011 08:40

Wow, this set is simply amazing. I doubt Lego will release the instructions quite yet as the value for these would go down (just looking at the model, I know I could buy at least 90% of this with my spare parts). Too, bad I don't have the money for this (plus airfare would cost a lot).

@toviag - So are you planning on opening this set or keeping it MISB?

@MERLego - My thoughts exactly! ;)

Posted by rainstorm26 in Europe, 19 May 2011 09:41

Is there a formal bricklink list of all of these tour sets somewhere?

I am just curious to see them all.

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 19 May 2011 10:08

Unless someone dropped out of the June 2011 Inside Tour, @bluemoose, there are no more tours until May 2012.... I'm thinking of doing May or June 2012 - fancy coming along ?

Posted by Hob in United Kingdom, 19 May 2011 10:38

Here's some info.

http://aboutus.lego.com/en-us/visits/insidetourpricing.aspx

Just wish i had the money to go along sounds like it would be fantastic.

Posted by vpustote in United States, 19 May 2011 10:46

@Hob, so I am guessing the $2,003 US Dollars, €1,613 Euros or £1,350 GBP doesn't include the flight charges to get to LegoLand?

Posted by Hob in United Kingdom, 19 May 2011 10:48

No travel to and from is down to you. not sure if they give discounts to small children if me and my son were to go that's £2500 (or so) and with air travel that's an expensive weekend,

Although how great would it be? Exclusive model and a look at the factory.

If they say kids should be 7 then i got a few years to save some money up, my son is 3.

I'll make do with LegoLand winsor in June for my birthday treat

Posted by vpustote in United States, 19 May 2011 11:09

@Hob, I remember hearing about Legoland opening up in Windsor... I was soooo excited. I was like that's not too far for me, that's only like a 5 hour drive to Canada. Then I found out it wasn't Windsor, Canada. I was so bummed.

Posted by Hob in United Kingdom, 19 May 2011 11:21

Yeah UK i'm affraid. Went last year and came out of my Dark ages in a big way now have massive amount of lego.

Son is older this year so will enjoy more. Will enjouy going to inside tour more but we can dream.

Posted by durins in United States, 19 May 2011 12:01

OPEN IT!! OPEN IT!!

Whew, sorry.

Posted by rocao in United States, 19 May 2011 12:46

Wow, quite nice. The set is nearly double the size of last year's, and actually factory specific as opposed to generic car models.

Here is the Brickset entries for these exclusive sets: http://www.brickset.com/search/?theme=Miscellaneous&subtheme=LEGO%20Inside%20Tour%20Exclusive
Looks like there are holes... does anyone have information about the set from missing years?

If I attended in 2010, I would be somewhat disappointed when comparing my set vs the 2009 and 2011 set :P

Posted by Hob in United Kingdom, 19 May 2011 12:54

WOW that house from 2009 is fantatsic. Wish i'd been able to that year.

Posted by Ypres in Canada, 19 May 2011 13:30

Well that's stupid. Don't get me wrong... I love the set, but why limit something as cool as that design? I think a set like that would've been a good Legoland exclusive. Well if people pay that much money to go on some tour then it's something to encourage them... still seems kinda odd for a kids company to do something so secretive with adult collectors.

Posted by TheKingOfBuilding in United Kingdom, 19 May 2011 13:55

@rocoa: "If I attended in 2010, I would be somewhat dissapointed when comparing my set vs the 2009 and 2011 set"

That is exactly my case :-(

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 19 May 2011 14:55

@rocao, yes we do, in the linked article: http://www.brickset.com/news/article/?ID=1042. The sets were repackaged regular sets on the other years.

Posted by ThisIsMyCup in United States, 19 May 2011 16:08

no offense, but i wouldve asked for a refund had i gone last year. those models do not leave a lot to be desired. :/
the injection mold machine is awesome and ive seen one in person. there isnt much to the machines beyond what you see on the outside, build-wise.

Posted by JDLego in Canada, 19 May 2011 17:05

This may sound like a stupid question, but I dont know much about anything, what is the set supposed to be, and what is `The Tour, Thanks

Posted by EdwinJackson in Norway, 19 May 2011 17:44

This machine reminds me of Bertha.

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 19 May 2011 18:51

Wow, looks nice! 68 made? I think like a million bucks in the future. :P

Posted by d00dz in Australia, 19 May 2011 20:38

Watch the Megafactory LEGO episode. It's awesome!

I wanna go in May 2012!

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 19 May 2011 20:48

@JDLego - That's alright there are plenty of clueless people in the world (me being one of them). The set is supposed to be the molding machines Lego uses to build Lego bricks. The tour is a tour that Lego gives a few times each year, and it's like a two day tour.

Posted by Zackula in United States, 19 May 2011 21:22

The June 2012 one happens right on my birthday! Too bad it will never happen. :(

Posted by JDLego in Canada, 19 May 2011 23:29

@Jarod98 - Thanks, I never knew it was a molding machine but It looks cool, I personally would not go on the tour and pay $1500 just to get this set, but thats my opinion, I know others would love to get it because there is only 68, but im not interested in it, but thanks for the info.

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 20 May 2011 01:04

I like the 2010 cars set. It's neat to have a couple of pieces that are actually designed by the owner.
But as far as the tour...I bet anyone and their kid would have a much better, informal time at a grand store opening and save a couple thousand.

Posted by aaronptrck in United States, 20 May 2011 01:42

I highly doubt any of the exclusive tour sets use any exclusive parts (could be wrong). This seems like a set that we'd be able to make from our own collection of pieces. (not trying to rain on anyone's parade)

It's an incredible set, and really there has to be more than 68. 68 were probably given to attendees, but select employees/designers must all get one as well!

Posted by Mequel De Vaughn in United States, 23 May 2011 12:49

$2000 for the tour and $2300 for the flight. Unless I move to Europe somewhere or the Netherlands I don't think I am going to make it. They need to open a large headquarters in the USA. If might save them on tranportation costs and give me something else to visit.

Posted by MorkMan in United States, 24 May 2011 19:40

I think I now have to go on the tour! I've got to find an excuse to have work send me to Europe... Just seeing the factory in person is now on my bucket list!

Posted by Brickmaster7398 in United States, 26 May 2011 09:46

Anyone know where to get the instructions to this or any of the other exclusives?
