Harry Potter, Years 5-7, the Video Game

As we've said lots of times, Brickset is all about the sets; we include some other LEGO products, but they aren't a priority for us in the Database. We've been getting quite a few emails about this one, so just for a little peace and quiet ... ;-)

It's being reported on Joystiq and other sites, that a new LEGO Harry Potter game will be out later this year, LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7. My guess is that the release will be timed to coincide with the DVD/BluRay release date, right in time for the important Christmas sales season.

I sure do hope so. I like the LEGO games.

A mention of it appears on the box of the 2 larger new HP sets.

Years 1-4 was amazing! I really want the next one!

I wonder if there's any chance for a couple final HP LEGO sets to come out later in the year when that happens. They should at least release a few minifig packs with characters that were never released over the years.

'Bout time! Really excited for this one- my only concern is well, Harry Potter gets darker so, um, how would LEGO do that? IDK, but I'm excited. My piggy bank in my room isn't though, he's getting more empty than ever before! :-)

^ after seeing what Lego has done with POTC the video game I am not too worried....

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 20 May 2011 20:11

I honestly wasn't expecting TLG to LEGO-fy Years 5-7, seeing as those books/films comprise the darker part of the series.

I cannot wait for it to come out but how are they going to sort out the darknes of the movies near the end

Posted by Greyface in United States, 21 May 2011 08:10

Yes! Hopefully this coincides with new sets.

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 21 May 2011 10:20

@Greyface: The new sets come out June, but the game isn't set till Q4 2011.

Booyah! I have most of the lego games and I'm looking forward to this new addition!

Posted by vpustote in United States, 21 May 2011 12:26

You know what would be cool.... if they allowed us to pre-order it and get a FREE MINIFIGURE. I would totally go for that deal again!

Posted by joeyzbrown in United States, 21 May 2011 12:55

@vpustote- Totally true. They did it for POTC, why not HP??

+1 vpustote -- great idea!!

Whoa, that was quick, I didnt even have a chance to buy Lego Starwars: The Clone Wars or Lego PotC yet, by the way does anybody know if I should buy those videogames first? I mean are they good at all?, it seems like LEGO comes out with a video game every week!

Posted by Legolover9531 in United States, 21 May 2011 23:50

Yes! Definatly going on my Christmas list. This time Im gonna do it on Xbox 360, even though I like the first one on Wii.

Posted by vpustote in United States, 22 May 2011 00:02

@JDLego, I thought The Clone Wars was rather short. Usually with the way Lego designs the games, so that you have to go in and redo every level to get everything to get 100%, it takes a few days worth of game play. But I still beat this game faster than any of the Lego games before it. But I did enjoy it, I am a sucker for these games.

I am still in the middle of Pirates, but it's very interesting so far. It's neat to see the pirates minifigures come to life.

My recommendation is to definitely pick up Pirates, especially since it's on sale for $39.99 at most places. Maybe wait a little bit for Clone Wars to go down in price.

@TooMuchLEGO - I know that. I meant that I hope this coincides with another new batch of sets, later this year.

Posted by Nuckal42 in United States, 22 May 2011 10:25

Wow! I already beat years 1-4 so this will be fun!

Picked up the Harry Potter lego book yesterday. Its better than Star wars Book is. They even have a section wher all the figures are line up in groups.

A new book is out called Lego Harry potter the visual dictionary and will have harry potter from the goblet of fire with a game suit on.Should be out now.

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 22 May 2011 21:09

@Mr. F, They have to wrap it up because of the "Years 1-4" title.

Posted by carding in United Kingdom, 23 May 2011 14:15

couldn't agree more about the release date. So far i have every single harry potter game for the xbox expect stone :(. The years 1-4 was one of the best!

Posted by Mr. F in Canada, 23 May 2011 14:26

@jonbuddy - Indeed, but Years 5-7 are much darker than Years 1-4 and the many, many character deaths might cause some consternation amongst parents who are use to the light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek tone of previous LEGO games.

Posted by vpustote in United States, 23 May 2011 16:47

I don't know why everyone is getting upset. Lego makes humorous games.

So they probably going to take scenes where people get sworded in the cut, into a character either doing a spin move and then X's on the eyes and fall over. Or they might do the ghosts of the characters cheerfully waving as they float upwards.

Parent to kids, "You guys can pick up the Lego Harry Potter years 1-4, but not years 5-7. That one is rated M because the characters don't turn into studs when being killed, but rather bleed real blood. And I hear they cuss in their native wizard... such rubbish."

Posted by vpustote in United States, 23 May 2011 16:49

Kids, "wow... so basically everyone dies... boring!"

Posted by swlego@hf in United States, 24 May 2011 18:20

Why are there concerns over this being the dark part of the HP book/film series? After all this is lego...all the dark parts in videogames have been toned down to be humerous-for an example, the latest lego game, LEGO PotC. Dead Mans Chest has some of the darkest parts in Pirates-and some of the scariest, yet it's humerous: why, cuz it's lego and TT-this is the way they've alway's done it! Way, way back to the first game: Lego Star Wars I!

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 27 May 2011 10:51

@Greyface on May 22

Ah. I think this'll be the last batch though :-\ but then again, Star Wars continued even though its movies were done...
