Wow, I just took a break from studying to check on Brickset and low and behold the PotC gallery is finished! The figs look great from how I see them, but I'll have to wait until I'm browsing with Firefox to see a neat gallery. Thanks to SaptiSatan for the ideas, they look great. Also, what holiday is it over in the UK? Today is Memorial Day for the USA, so I'm guessing there's a similar holliday over in the UK...

Will Turner minifig + the Elf minifig = LEGOlas

Wow this is a great galley! Congratulations again Huw, another masterpiece!

Posted by Pepper in United States, 30 May 2011 11:00

Thanks for the continuation of this great minifig gallery, Huw! Are you still going to take pics of back and alternate head printing?

Posted by SapmiSatan in Norway, 30 May 2011 11:08

SapmiSatan*. I think it's cool you went by my suggestions, but the gallery looks a bit messy at the moment, like what happened to the Harry Potter gallery, a while back. Also, it seems you excluded the "Natives" category, and made them all crewmen of Queen Anne's Revenge. Finally, if they could wear their scabbards as well, like Barbossa did in the sample, I think it would look much better, Skeleton Barbossa looks naked.

Like Jarod said, if us Americans celebrate Memorial Day, what do you people in the UK celebrate? Is it the same thing?
Regardless, happy Memorial Day to everyone in the world!

The pics look great, Huw! One problem, they appear all messed up. There is a review of 4181 Isla de la Muerta at FBTB.

It's late May bank holiday here in the UK today.

I can't get to the bottom of the 'all messed up' galleries. It appears only to be IE8 that has the problem and I don't have a copy here to test with. Press the little 'broken page' icon next to the address bar to put it into compatability mode and it should be OK. IE9, FF, Chrome, Safari, Opera, iPad, Android webkit are all fine.

Whatever happened to "I'll upload both backside and front side"?

Posted by NoIR DsIR in Germany, 30 May 2011 14:18

Great pictures! Thank you very much for your effort. Can't wait to see the Star Wars gallery in future.

@Lego_Lord Give him a chance! :)

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 30 May 2011 15:27

^ Yes, thank you :-) Adding backs takes 3 times longer than just the front and, in hindsight, it isn't worth the effort, to me at least.

Posted by LEGO_Lord in United States, 30 May 2011 16:04

Okay, I was just wondering. I noticed that you removed the back side of Jack Sparrow also. Is it just me or did you have Barbossa with his sword sheath before and then you replaced it shortly afterwards?

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 30 May 2011 17:52

Thanks, Huw. There is also a review of 4191 Captain's Cabin at FBTB.

I'm fine with not having the scabbards on the figs that have them. It's more of an accessory anyways and without it you get a much clearer view of the minifigures' prints. Huw left Indy's bag off the Indiana Jones pictures, perhaps for the same reason.

By the way, Huw, is the time issue for photos of the backs a photographic/ editing issue or is it related to putting them on the site? I understand it's difficult, but it is nice to see the reverse printing/backpack/hairpiece details on figs that have them.

Posted by LEGO_Lord in United States, 30 May 2011 19:46

I know, I'm not complaining, I just noticed that before Hector Barbossa had his scabbard and then HUW replaced the image and Barbossas didn't.

Could double sided heads be shown? The Jack figures have multiple expressions. The Fred/George figure in the HP gallery also comes to mind. It does have to be a fully body with the head, and maybe the full face prints that are blocked from view, such as Blackbeard, Hagrid, Batman , Catwoman and the Twins from Space Police III, as well. That shouldn't be asking too much if its just heads.
Besides the head issue, these galleries are amazing. Its great to have these. Thank you.

I agree with The_Box, in that reverse of heads (where there is something to show) could use a little image of them inserted into part of the main picture. Also, characters with helmets (such as Darth Vader and Stormtroopers for star wars), would have a shot of the head piece used in the same way... as sometimes it's yellow, sometimes black, sometimes has a different face. As a pictorial resource (which is great!) i'd want to see the exact model associated with the set when it was bought as new. Excellent job, regardless. Excellent.

@Huw, this is great for testing in earlier versions of IE: http://www.my-debugbar.com/wiki/IETester/HomePage
"it's a public holiday in the UK and drizzling outside..."
In that train of thought the Star Wars gallery could be finished in a short sabatical and a three-month rainstorm ;-)

Posted by MinifigureMan in United Kingdom, 31 May 2011 07:14

@Huw-For the backs just a suggestion, if they have a double-sided head, show the other side that yo didn't put on the front view and put the hat/hair next to them backwards. If you know what I mean. ;)

I shot the backs of the heads from 4191, 4181 and 4182 for those interested before/if Huw shoots/adds them to the gallery - http://www.flickr.com/photos/thesinisterpenguin/5656357367/in/set-72157626434523827

Thanks @darnolds, that is a great bit of kit. I can see the problem in IE8 now, although it also suggests the same problem in IE7 but that appears to be OK when I view it from my work PC with actual IE7.

Hopefully I can resolve it now.

The categorisation seems a bit weird to me... 'Angelica' I think should be on the crew for the Queen Anne's Revenge, and 'Philip' shouldn't.

This is how I'd categorise them:

Pirates: Angelica, Pirate Jack Sparrow, Pirate Jack Sparrow With Hat, Pirate Barbossa, Pirate Will Turner, Joshamee Gibbs, Pirate Norrington, Blackbeard, Cook, Scrum

Royal Navy: Navy Barbossa, King George's Officer, King George's Soldier

Civilians: Elizabeth Swann, Philip Swift, Coachman

Natives: Cannibal 1, Cannibal 2, Cannibal Jack Sparrow

Supernatural: Mermaid, Syrena, Yeoman Zombie, Gunner Zombie, Quartermaster Zombie, Hadras, Skeleton Barbossa, Skeleton Jack Sparrow

Miscellaneous: Voodoo Doll Jack Sparrow

It's not perfect, but it's an alternative way of looking at the characters, and each character more clearly fits in place. Hopefully in the future there will also be Pirate Elizabeth Swann, Civilian Will Turner, Navy Norrington and Civilian Syrena.

@voypro, That just would not work. AND for these reasons.......
1. The elf is yellow. And Will is not.
2. Will has a moustache and Legolas does not.

Great work with galleries, Huw! I wonder why Lego hasn't headhunted you as their GrandStorageMaster yet... Guess they figured they can't affort you!

The IE7/8 problem should now be fixed, please let me know if you still see anything wierd.
