LEGO Collector book 2nd edition out: new sets revealed

  • LEGO Collector book 2nd edition out: new sets revealed

Posted by Huw, 04 Jul 2011 16:40. Filed under Miscellaneous.

The second edition of the excellent LEGO Collector book is now out after a short delay - it was originally due in April I believe.

I don't have my copy yet (it's on order) but it would appear to be bang up to date because it's revealed two sets that we don't yet have pictures for here that are due out later in the year, the VW Camper Van and the Winter Post Office. Check out the scans at EuroBricks.

I believe the only place the book is currently available is from the publisher's website. Click on the image to order. It's €27.95 and I think they'll ship anywhere in the world. It even comes with an exclusive key chain.

Thanks to typo for tipping us off in the forum.

Whilst on the subject of books, I do however have a proof copy of The Unofficial LEGO Minifigure Catalog which I'll be reviewing very shortly, so watch this space!

Winter Post Office.....HUGE thumbs up!!!

That's funny: I'm writing a story at the LEGO Message Boards, and it includes a VW Camper. :P

Has anyone heard if a hardcover version of the 2nd edition is expected?

Posted by distortme in Australia, 04 Jul 2011 19:21

And lets hope it gets to Amazon soonish - 35EU to Australia for postage is a bit steep.

*Punch* Brick One!

The Volkwagon Looks great! It seems a bit smaller than I expected, but it's okay. The Winter Post Office looks good as well. I can't wait for that Minifig Book.

I like the winter village sets and was worried that a post office might be kind of... meh. But lots of nice features from what I can see in the scan.

I told my son 3 weeks ago when we were discussing the winter sets, I thought they should do a post office. Awesome! Hope it isn't going to be too expensive. Love the VW bus.

Got this book this morning, looks fantastic and can't wait to have a proper look. I've not heard of a hard back edition.

The van's a great model, shame it's not minifigure sized.

@rocao - I was holding out for a hardcover edition, but I haven't found anything that suggests there's one on the way.

The shipping for the book to my address in the USA costs more (29 EUR) than the book (27,95 EUR). With the exchange rate, the total would be USD $82.58! Ouch!

^ See if you can team up with others in the USA and get a load shipped over. I ordered 16 for fellow Brickish Association members here in the UK and shipping was only €12, so it worked out at less than a Euro each.

no large scale model in it (i.e. Tower Bridge)?

Posted by brickmatt in United States, 05 Jul 2011 09:18

I bought the previous one direct from S@H, maybe they'll offer this one as well, or maybe US bookstores will get it.

Anyway, I think LEGO did a great job designing the VW Camper Van!

^ Thanks, sorted.

Wow, the winter post office looks really cool and traditional although it's sort of the odd one out as it's rooves aren't full covered in snow which is the only thing i don't like. I love that cool new green hood though!

Lego will issue a takedown for those pictures. Better save them to your HD folks. ;)

^ Brickset's policy on not posting confidential images is explained by bluemoose here: http://www.brickset.com/news/article/?ID=1108
We steadfastly adhere to the policy at the sacrifice of web traffic while other websites do not.

In the case of the SSD, the image was obtained directly from LEGO.com and not marked confidential. If we would have been requested to take the image down, we would have done so as we have done in the past and will continue to do.

@bluelion3: count me in for 1 or 2 copies if bulk shipping to the US can be arranged.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 05 Jul 2011 17:20

Thanks rocao. In any case these pics are from a published book so there will be no take down requests.

I don't really want the Post Office (but with these low-res images you can't really tell) but the VW Van looks neat. You can get larger images at The Brothers Brick.

Posted by daxrsa in South Africa, 07 Jul 2011 07:36

Shipping is really expensive to South Africa @ 35 Euros, that's more than the book costs. Its a rip-off! I've shipped large sets I've bought of Bricklink from Europe for that shipping cost. Pity, I was ready to order it.

Posted by Archytaz in Belgium, 07 Jul 2011 16:17

Oh some missprints from page 279 tp 284, English names at wrong sets (German are correct)
Due to "9v Transformer and speed regulator" to long => regulator is no the name of the next set :s

But such a sweet book :)

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 08 Jul 2011 17:46

^ So I see! All the sets after 4548 for the rest of that year, 1991, are given the English name of the one to the left of it.

That's a shame, isn't it...
