    The long-awaited second edition of this excellent book has just been published and I now have a copy. I'm not going to write a long review; instead I've ressurected my review of the first edition, as written in 2008, and will thus concentrate on the differences between the two editions.

    - At 928 pages, it's about 130 pages longer.
    - Edition 1 covered sets released in 1958 up to the first half of 2008. This new version starts at 1949 and goes right up to the end of 2011, including sets not yet released.
    - Errors noted in my 1st edition review have been corrected.
    - It comes with an exclusive keychain: a black 4x4 tile with 1 row of studs, printed with the classic space logo.
    - It has a blue brick on the front rather than a red one :-)

    Suffice to say that this is a must-have for every LEGO collector, whether you have the first edition or not. It's a fantastic thing to browse through. Kudos to the team behind it for continuing to work on the project and keep it up-to-date.

    At the moment it's only available from the German publishers via their website (click on the image to go there), but in time it will appear on Amazon worldwide like the first edition did, and maybe even turn up in LEGO brand stores.

Nice to see that review: The set page of the first edition had a link to an "Official Brickset review", but it didn't work. Now, it's back! :)

This is available on 'The Book Depository UK', certainly cheaper than the EUR$35 the publisher wants to charge for shipping to Australia. Do a search using the ISBN number 9783935976640.

I got the collector book too directly from the publisher. I am also very satisfied with it. Would like to get a hardcover version like the special edition one that was available of the 1st edition.

28eur for the book and 29eur for shipping to the US from the German website

That is $82 USD.

I own the first edition and it was no where near that amount.

Im curious what was added prior to 1958 because i thought that was the beginning of the plastic bricks of lego but thats off the top of my head i may not be remembering right. Im a little bummed that this book duplicates all the stuff in the first book because it kind of makes having the first book pointless. Oh well, thanks for the news.

I didn't get the 1st edition, but I've got this one, and I'm loving it. I like just randomly flicking to pages and checking out some sets I've never seen before.

That reminds me @Huw, when is 'Brickset: The Book' coming out?

Regardless of how good it is, I don't want to get a book like this that's going to be outdated in 6 months.

^ Surely on that basis you'd never buy any non-fiction book, then? Even books about dinosaurs, for example, go out of date as more is discovered :)

i wasn't convinced to buy this, but i decided "why not"...i thought it would make a great reference guide...shame about shipping costs. Also, Northern Ireland, much to contrary belief is part of the UK, but according to their website its not, so i had to use Ireland as my address - not sure if this has worked out more expensive or not, but all said and done, i am looking forward to my copy arriving :o)

^^^^^^ (@Huw) - That's not what I meant really. I mean Lego constantly brings out new sets, as everyone here obviously knows. Not to be a kiss-up, but Brickset is my LEGO Collector's Book.

...I guess I was sort of blunt with that comment, huh? :(

Ordered my copy from book Depository.co.uk last Friday, cost me £20.41 inc postage.
It arrived today (p.s. noticed tht Book Depository now charge £28 for it)
Very impressed with it, indeed I just can't put it down....

Thanks for the review, Huw, it was what you wrote that convinced me to get it, just got to work on the wife now in order to purchase the Minifig book :-)

If you have this book take a look at pages 279 through 284 - the text refers to the wrong pictures - 43 incorrect entries!
