Next Architecture set revealed

It's a model of Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House, which is in Chicago. It's being unveiled at the site in August by designer Adam Reed Tucker. It's going to cost $200 and contain 2200 pieces which makes it the largest Architecture set by some margin. It's good to see one that is not all white, tan or grey :-)

Find out more in the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust's newsletter, page 15.

Now we're talking :-) ... though it could be cheaper to make it even more attractive

Loving this one!

Posted by richselby in United Kingdom, 12 Jul 2011 09:31

I can't work out why these sets are so expensive per piece. They make Star Wars look cheap. There's no intellectual property licensing fees on them. And a bigger manual can't cost that much. I suppose they're going for the It's Good 'cause It's Expensive niche. Shame, because that rules me out.

Ohmygod. That look absolutely amazing. The colors and the construction! Guess I better start saving up!

And since I live I live in Chicago, this set is especially cool to me. Can't wait!

Ah Man! Why can't they make west-coast Landmarks of the U.S.A? Like the Trans-american building in San Francisco, the First Inerstate building in Los Angeles or the Grifith Obersvatory.(I live in California)

This is cheaper than all the others by the price per piece. At about 9.7 cents per piece, this is way lower than the 14-20 cents per piece of the smaller ones.

From the thumbnail, it looks like a posh Japanese castle. This is the coolest Ninjago set ever! :D

Posted by Legodt in United States, 12 Jul 2011 12:55

Fantastic... I plan on attending the event. It'll be a great time to take my kids to see the famed architectural icon and to pick up the latest from ART.

Great looking set, but cannot get past the 200 USD price tag.. I guess that is what BOGO TRU sales are for though.

Robie house is an amazing house, and seeing it in person even more so....

Posted by Zacherano in United States, 12 Jul 2011 13:28

@The Reviewer - They already made a Seattle Space Needle

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 12 Jul 2011 13:28

It's a nice set, but for me it will be the Farnsworth House that I put my money into, and it's cheaper.(Although I will wait for larger pictures)

@Zrath-it does look like a Japanese castle.
@richselby- TLG has to pay ART. That's why it's so expensive.

Another Architecture set that is coming out soon is the Brandenburg Gate, in Berlin. You can find pictures on the internet.

The Set looks quite impressive, but due to the likely steep uk price £150+ probably. Iam out on this purchase.

Wow - looks good but very expensive! Damn lego - why do they have to keep making so many brilliant/expensive sets? Just got medieval village so got to wait for next biggie - camper van looks good at mo

This set looks really nice. Much nicer (and much more expensive) than Fallingwater. I think I'll stick with saving up for the Farnsworth House due to budget constraints.

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 12 Jul 2011 15:32

Wow, from what I can see from the thumbnail the set looks amazing! I think it'd be great if Lego made minifig sized architecture sets.
P.S. Huw- This is off topic but at the top of the main brickset page is a Lego box saying "Dear brickset review author"
Is this from you? If so, why? Sorry for being off topic :)

^It is from me. Answer the question and it goes away. The information will be used to enable filtering of the reviews that are presented to you, once enough people have done so.

Huw- Oh OK, thanks for clearing that up :)

Beautiful looking display set. Can't wait to see some clearer pics.
Price puts me off but it's real tempting....hmmm...;)

Posted by RedBrickMarket in United States, 13 Jul 2011 00:29

That looks similar to a design at Brickworld Chicago this year. Anyone who went there seeing this?

Posted by db99 in United Kingdom, 13 Jul 2011 02:32

Yet another US building....why?

Posted by Sly Raskal in United States, 13 Jul 2011 10:14

I'm happy to finally see a larger Architecture set being released, but I can't help but agree with db99's comment.

There are so many marvelous, architectural feats in the world, it's getting to be rather lackluster in my opinion to have only U.S. buildings represented with the exception of the tiny Burj Khalifa set.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 13 Jul 2011 11:44

^The Eiffel Tower and Tower Bridge could be included in that too. Good idea for a Bricklist!

Posted by QuagsireQing in Canada, 13 Jul 2011 11:46

LEGOlas1 has a point. The Architecture theme may only cover American buildings (excepting Burj Khalifa), but the world landmarks get much more respect with the large-scale models like Eiffel Tower, Tower Bridge and Taj Mahal. I've been courted by the Architecture series before, coming within an inch of buying Fallingwater and White House, but never quite gave in. This set might tip me into the pool of Architecture, though, with a price and piece count equivalent to what one might find in an Exclusive set.

Posted by AlexWeston in United Kingdom, 13 Jul 2011 13:21

Don't forget the odd one out - shinkai submarine. Agree with the sentiment though - so many amazing places around the world. Alhambra palace anyone?

Posted by db99 in United Kingdom, 13 Jul 2011 17:20

Alhambra would be good - but Potala Palace would be awesome!!

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 13 Jul 2011 19:51

Isn't Arch. U.S. exclusive? If so then it would make sense for most of them to be US landmarks.

Posted by db99 in United Kingdom, 13 Jul 2011 20:29

Its also available in the UK. Anyway, even if it was a UK exclusive i wouldnt want it to be just UK buildings.

Legolas-are u joking bout alhambra?

Posted by db99 in United Kingdom, 13 Jul 2011 20:30

Ignore me, just realised u meant the sub.....

Posted by dewballer in United States, 14 Jul 2011 00:05

Awww man...can't afford legos anymore...=(

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 14 Jul 2011 11:18

@itsaturkey-some sets are available in Canada, too.

Posted by AlexWeston in United Kingdom, 14 Jul 2011 13:45

Do like the oddball sub though - think with pricing they plan to keep it as exclusive and adult orientated as possible. They are classy though as executive ornaments though with loads of potential for future sets
