Next architecture set: Brandenburg Gate

  • Next architecture set: Brandenburg Gate

Forum member bricknation found this set on the shelves of the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, Manchester. Although there's been rumours of this appearing, I think his picture in the forum is the first. Price was £35. Ouch!

Update: Picture removed at the request of LEGO.

Wow, they keep pumping these out. This one looks to be really overpriced (even by Architecture standards). Is this the first non-U.S. based one?

Posted by Boiiinng in United States, 21 Jul 2011 15:02

Really? Lame.

Posted by Captain Blockbeard in United States, 21 Jul 2011 15:03

I'm a bit disappointed that Lego made the Brandenburg Gate as an Architecture set and not as the next set to follow Tower Bridge, Eiffel Tower, etc.

By the way, this is not the first non-US one considering there's the Burg Khalifa from Dubai.

That's right, thanks for the reminder. I agree, a set like this would be a cool Large Scale landmark set.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 21 Jul 2011 15:16

I saw it at Billund HQ. I don't think it looks cool. My brother does, though.

Huw, why haven't you added the Robie House yet?

^^^^ No. The Burj Khalfia was the first.

Ugh, a definite miss, especially at that price!

Posted by jschwarz in United States, 21 Jul 2011 16:10

A miss at that price, perhaps. But are those sand green cheese wedges I see? It's hard to tell from the image, but one can hope.

Posted by db99 in United Kingdom, 21 Jul 2011 16:32

Yes finally another non-US set!! Looks a bit weak though

Does anyone know if the Sydney Opera house that lego are working on will be an architecture set or a proper model like the Taj? I really hope the latter

Posted by PaulRevere in United States, 21 Jul 2011 16:34

No offense to the EU contingent, but it doesn't look that great. Why don't they do the Roman Collesium or Buckingham Palace?

Posted by erbse2000 in Germany, 21 Jul 2011 16:45

I agree with Captain Blockbeard, I'd love to have this set as as a large scale landmark one (3000+ pieces :-) ). This one I'll never buy...

Posted by natro220 in United States, 21 Jul 2011 16:45

@db99

A full sized Sydney Opera House would be awesome, let's hope!

I agree that they have a great deal of wonderful European architecture to work with, seems odd that they went with this.

Posted by legoguysw in United Kingdom, 21 Jul 2011 16:49

I'm glad they've released a non-US one. There are many great architectural buildings in the rest of the World for Lego to choose from.

Posted by voyanui8768 in United Kingdom, 21 Jul 2011 16:55

I agree with PaulRevere - we want Buckingham Palace!

Posted by gime in Poland, 21 Jul 2011 17:17

I like this one and it might be the first architecture set that I will actually buy.

Posted by mojolego in United States, 21 Jul 2011 20:24

My sources tell me that Lego will be coming out with a Corbusier Domino house in the form of a 1x2 brick.

Posted by railroad18764 in United States, 21 Jul 2011 21:39

Nice.I like the beams in the front!

Posted by Juno in United States, 21 Jul 2011 23:37

Does anyone know how many pieces? I'm definitely not getting this, but it would be fun to build with my own pieces. :D

Posted by Isabella and Lego Liker in United States, 22 Jul 2011 00:29

My guess is about 600-800 pieces.

Posted by cimddwc in Germany, 22 Jul 2011 03:04

Not counting the base, this looks like about 300 pieces to me: 60 for each side building and 180 for the main gate. (Or maybe a few more, but not many.)

Looks nice enough to me to buy it (being German) if it wasn't for the price – which is what kept me from buying any Architecture set so far...

Finally, a good architecture set

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 22 Jul 2011 08:46

^^ That's a good esitmate.

Posted by Sly Raskal in United States, 22 Jul 2011 10:01

Glad to see a non US centered building being added to the lineup.

Hopefully in time we'll have sets like Big Ben, Sydney Opera House or other famous landmarks but those may be reserved as Creator sets, who knows.

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 22 Jul 2011 11:13

Sydney Opera House would be nice.

I thought Brickset's policy was to remove watermarked images, or images of sets not released? If the set was found on the shelves at the Legoland Discovery Centre, why was it removed? :/

Posted by dougts in United States, 22 Jul 2011 13:51

well, it sounds like the item should never have been there to begin with.

LEGO asked Huw to remove it. Huw likely (and correctly) wants to maintain a good relationship with LEGO going forward, so he did just that. It is the smart thing to do.

I'm sure the image is around other places online as well by now, so it's not like finding it will be hard. Or just wait until it comes back again. No big deal really

Posted by Bricknation.com in United Kingdom, 22 Jul 2011 14:26

I hope I didn't open Pandora's box :)

Posted by The Brick Show in United States, 22 Jul 2011 15:11

I guess the good news with the size of the Robie House (2200 pieces) didn't carry over to any other sets. We want big stuff from this line LEGO, hear us! These micro scale garbage of iconic buildings is a total fail.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 23 Jul 2011 03:28

Apparently the set is not supposed to be on the shelves until September. It's a bit unreasonable for LEGO to ask given the set itself is now in the public domain, but nevertheless, to maintain a good relationship with them We have removed it.

Posted by mo123567 in United States, 23 Jul 2011 16:05

I prefer the larger scale landmarks. I would love to have the Sydney Opera House as a huge set. I never heard that lego was even working on the SOH.

Posted by legoman67 in Netherlands, 23 Jul 2011 18:24

When you still like to see the picture, just type "Lego 21011", and Google it.

Posted by miskox in Slovenia, 25 Jul 2011 08:27

Off topic, but it has been mentioned lots of times. Here it is, Sydney Opera House, official LEGO as it looks like.
