    Valid Sunday 7/24 through Saturday 7/30, Toys R Us is running a Buy One, Get One 50% Off promotion for all* LEGO construction sets.  Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Ninjago sets are excluded, however.  As always, try and buy similarly priced sets and look for those sets with little if any extra TRU markup in order to maximize your savings.  Lastly, you receive free shipping on orders that exceed $75.  The sale went live at midnight and there are many nice sets in stock such as the new Red Cargo Train, Emerald Night, Medieval Market, Queen Anne's Revenge, and the Imperial Flagship.

    Update: In some stores, the promotion is actually BOGO 40% Off.

    Update 2: Star Wars sets are now also BOGO50% Monday 7/25/11 Only.  The catch is that they only pair with non-Star Wars sets.  The plus is that you can buy mulitples of the same set.

Too bad I just spent my $ on last weeks sale for a grand emporium and diagon alley, I would totally get QA's Revenge and Imperial Flagship!

Also on another note Series 5 minifigures are available for pre-order with a BOGO promo, but it only works on 1 being 1/2 off, and doesn't seem to apply if you add any other BOGO Lego sets either. One promo per transaction as usual! :( Here is the link:

Yeah, the Red Train is limited to one, which is insane during a BOGOHO sale.
It doesn't say that anywhere on the product page, at all. It's not until you put more than one in your cart that some red message pops up with a lot of mumbo-jumbo and fiddle-faddle.
This is obviously a malfunction so I sent TRU an email to complain and ask them to fix it. :)

Meanwhile, this afternoon, I was able to buy a couple of Republic Frigates on the tail end of the Star Wars BOGOHO deal. Just in time!

It's not likely a glitch and has been in place all week. I assume the idea is to "encourage" buying different sets and thus increasing their profit margin. The more we pair sets at different price points, the more profitable it is for them. But it also serves us in that the most wanted sets will stay in stock longer just like we've seen all week. Right now, I'm hemming/hawing over the QAR and Red Cargo Train. I am guessing the train is at MSRP while the QAR is an astounding 17% over MSRP. But as long as the MSRP set is the higher priced set, any markup on the other set is somewhat negated.

The math is certainly fun. If both were at MSRP, you'd save $60 instead of the actual $50. But you're then spending $230 to save $50 for only 17% or so in savings. With the Emerald Night and Medieval Market, you'd only have to spend $150 to save $50 for 25% in savings.

But the QAR is relatively hard to find, the movie has left theaters, and the best you'll get from LEGO is 5% back for future purchases. Thus, I will likely hem and haw until one or both is out of stock. :o)

I've been watching the QAR for sometime and had decided to use the 10% Lego store coupon (for 15% off).
The TRU markup is just too much to overcome, even if pairing with a MFalcon, for example.
And then I got a notice from disneystore.com about a sale this weekend with 20% off and free shipping -- and they have the QAR! (with just a $4.50 markup).

We had no print copy in our paper but the soft copy online does indeed indicate 50%.

In the B&M Store it is BOGO 40%
I just came back from two TRU's. To be honest I never really paid close attention to the tags in the first store as I was looking for the 3677 train in stock. They did not have them, so I walked out of that TRU without really paying attention.
In the Second TRU store I went into I found two 3677 Cargo trains left and got em, but went I paid the amount seemed a bit high.. I checked the receipt after the purchase and saw that under the Item on the receipt it stated Buy one get one 40% off..
I thought it was a joke or only something for the cargo trains (since they limited them online) so I went and dropped the trains off in my vehicle and went back in to find out, sure enough, the signs posted say BOGO 40%...lol

I mean I am trying not to complain because I am still getting them on some sort of sale, but TRU is getting a bit ridiculous.... I mean You can only get one online (and they are no sold out, so not sure if they sold out one at a time or sold out because they expanded the limit to 2) and then they 'punish' you going to the store to BOGO40% instead of 50%
I guess I will hold onto the receipt. If I can somehow get them this week online for a BOGO50% Ill return these

I do not buy Sunday papers so I could not tell you what the sale is in Illinois, but it sounds like others are also seeing the 40% number being thrown around...
Not sure if this is a region thing or if this is a by Store policy (not about to drive all the way to the first TRU I was at to confirm)
My guess is that the TRU is not about to commit fraud and misrepresent a sale, so I am guessing they are 'sale-ing' by region... in which case that is just crazy...
Just checked the Flyer.. For the Chicago area anyway it is BOGO40%

I for one love the limit on 1 per customer. For those of us that only wish to have one set but cant get it because of people that stock pile them to sell later on ebay or bricklink buy up all the stock. I hope TRU and other retail stores start to limit it to 1 per transaction/billing address on all sales.

Cause guess what? money is money to a retailer... If someone wants to go and buy 20 of a set, they do not care, they make their money.. what they really care about is how people are exploiting the system to get maximize the value of the sale by buying two of the same item...

If retailers what to start limiting the sets that is fine..
I mean it will not bother most of those who buy multiples of sets for resale later, not one bit.. if people want two Emerald nights and two MMV then will they do two orders of one Emerald night and one MMV, or do that multiple times...
What this does is hurt those who want two of a Lego set that has a different price than the rest of their sets (like sets that are $160 dollars for example) because of some dumb notion of one per order.. (which really makes no sense when they do not do this at a store...) which means you do not get the best value of the sale because you have to buy another set that may cost more or less than the sets you want...
And it will hurt their big ticket sales.. (because who is going to buy a Lego DS if they have to pay full price for it to get 50% off another set???)

So TRU can do this but it will hurt their sales (at least the online sales) more than help IMO.

Bottom line is, if people think TRU is doing this to help people you are wrong.. they are doing it to try to maximize their profits and take away from those who know how to get a good deal....
What they should do is limit TWO, or even three, so where there is a sale then you can maximize your dollar..or limit those that have the same price that multiple Lego sets have (such as the MMV and EN both being 99.99 (among others)
But allow those with non-standard pricing be limited to two( or three), to match their sales. By them not doing this they are taking what on the surface looks like a great sale and further stripping buyers from getting a good deal.
Just like their goofy region BOGO sale where in my area it is a BOGO40 instead of 50 in other regions....

Yours is a good idea in theory except that their system already limit online promotions to one per transaction. Thus, increasing the qty limit to 2 or 100 would be the same. This way, they kill two birds with one stone. They get us to pair more disparately priced sets which results in more profitability for them. They also satisfy a customer base by slowing stock depletions on the most wanted sets.

^^^-- it seems good, except again it also means no more BOGO50 Death Stars (or the new Star Destroyers) for maximum savings.... or BOGO50 Mindstorms, no BOGO Technic Excavators or any other large prices sets that have no same price counterpart.
and trying to figure out how much you save on a Buy two get the third free (or 90%) is going to be oh so fun...

If they would at least bump it to two, or three, it would should that TRU understands what some people do for the BOGO sales and would account for that.. I mean for awhile they were limiting to five per set.. so how come it goes down to 1 per order??
What is really going to hurt is anyone wanting to get sets you cannot get in the store, where there is no limit...

I guess I can try going to the DT Chicago TRU to see if they have FB and GE in stock there and would buy them there then I guess, but the money it costs to get downtown may nullify any savings from a BOGO sale..

I see what TRU is trying to do and I really doubt it has anything to do with helping anyone but themselves... which is fine, they are entitled, but I only hope people realize they are doing this more for their benefit and not the consumers...
Unless they are only doing this because of limited stock for this sale in which case I can understand that as they have had numerous sales for the past two months... So hopefully it will be limited to this sale.

Remember that you vote with your dollars. If you don't like the way TRU has changed the rules of their promotion, just buy somewhere else. If they make less money from their promotions after changing the rules, that's their incentive to change things back.

The ad in Appleton WI is BOGO50%, but I haven't been in the store to confirm. I don't understand why anyone would bother with BOGO40%, even if you find two identically priced items, your maximum discount is 20% off each item. I've had two 20% off coupons emailed to me just in the past week. I usually use them on non-LEGO, but if BOGO40% shows up around me I'll just use those coupons on LEGO and skip the trip to the store during these sales. If enough people do that, hopefully TRU will be the message that BOGO40% isn't such a great idea.

In Germany you get, start with 7/28 valid to 8/3, 20% off if you get LEGO sets for a minumim amount of € 30,--. Except Star Wars sets...

Southeastern Pennsylvania TRU stores seem to be 50% off. At least, my closest store was BOGO 50%. It was not my intention to make a Lego purchase today, but I found myself leaving the store with half of the new NinjaGo and new Hero Factory sets.

Update: I had tried to buy two Red Cargo Train sets on TRU's website yesterday to take advantage of the BOGOHO sale on City, and could only put one set in my cart. I emailed TRU to complain. I got a form email back. I emailed again, complaining that my issue was not addressed directly and/or properly.

Today, I got a phone call from TRU. They apologized for me not being able to buy more than one Red Cargo Train sets on their website. Since the set is now out of stock, they gave me a "raincheck" and will notify me by email when the set comes back in stock. When it does, I will be able to order two of them and get the BOGOHO discount even if has expired by then. I totally win! :D

@ dsdg88 - I just checked my slip and they didn't tally the BOGO 50% off on the various sets I purchased today. Looks like I need to go back to the store to either make a return or get them to recalculate the bill correctly. Unless it's now a new in-store policy to only apply the sale on one item per overall transaction like it is online.

Just got my order today from TRU. I ordered the Emerald night and shuttle expedition. Got 2 large boxes. One containing one of the Lego's I purchased. The other box which should have been the bogo portion of my Lego order was a cheap foam snuggly baby bather! (Which I looked up, and anyone who would paid 20 bucks for that should have their head examined). They are suppose to send a label to ship it back, once they receive it, they are suppose to then, send a gift card. I'm so sick of their games, they either never have things in stock when there is a BOGO 1/2 off, and when you order what is in stock you don't get what you order. This is why people shop at Walmart. I have not yet been disappointed with my site to store Lego order. GRRRH!
