The other news from this year's SDCC was, as widely reported across the LEGO bloggosphere, the panel discussion which revealed some interesting new information about next year's Star Wars sets ...

First, we're getting a larger, more detailed TIE Fighter, set #9492. As well as the ship itself, the set will include 4 minifigs - TIE Fighter Pilot, Death Star Trooper, Imperial Officer & Imperial astromech droid (R5-J2).

Secondly, LEGO have been working on a new Padme figure, this time in one of her regal 'Queen Amidala' outfits. It isn't clear yet what set this will be in.

Thanks to everyone that emailed us, and especially to 'ThatOllieGuy' for sharing his photos on flickr.

Just wanted to share additional information from the Lego Star Wars panel discussion at Comic Con. I was in attendance and they announced an additional (6) six new sets would be released around the January 2012 timeframe - one of them being the newly redesigned TIE fighter. Anxiously waiting to see what the other five sets will be. January is going to be a crazy month for us Star Wars, DC and Marvel fans!! Will be broke before I know it!

Oh please finally release a naboo cruiser please please. Ill have paid off my masters and can go nuts!

Wow, that's quite an improvement over the old TIE series! And the minifigs are great too- especially that navy trooper. I've always thought it was weird that TLC used the at-st pilot helmet for this figure, even a black rebel helmet would've been more accurate. I also like that they are giving the imperial officers gloves now. I know that's such a little thing, but its a nice touch.

Wow I was about to buy the 2001 Tie fighter on amazon, but now I think I will just wait.

Posted by K-nut in United States, 25 Jul 2011 16:50

Sweet! I bet the TIE fighter will be $60 USD because of the figs.

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 25 Jul 2011 17:17

The TIE Fighter looks completely re-designed, I love the new color, the detail, and the way they brought out the design on the wings. The minifigs are half-bad either. I love the new helmet on the Death Star Trooper and R5-J2 has a great new head. The TIE Fighter Pilot and Imperial Trooper for the most part, look the same as past versions.

@whkim75 - Do you remember the names of them? I'd be nice to have an idea of the 2012 sets in advance.

@Redbullgivesuwind - I hope so, too.

@K-nut - I'm guessing $40-$60; the size really gives away the price ;)

Will this be a UCS or a regular set?

Posted by Jarod98 in United Kingdom, 25 Jul 2011 17:27

@erbse2000 - The size denotes that it is minifigure-scale, so it will probably be a normal set (plus Brickset listed it's subtheme as Episode IV-VI).

You're welcome for me emailing you... :D Joke. New sets look epic

me wants!

Posted by The Reviewer in United States, 25 Jul 2011 18:43

I wish the TIE fighter had a Death star gunner.

Posted by The Reviewer in United States, 25 Jul 2011 18:43

I Hope the TIE fighter is only $30

I am so stoked about the Queen Amidala figure!! It's about time!!! I think it is more conceivable that she will be in a rendition of Theed Palace versus the naboo fighter. Her ship was all Chrome and would be more costly to do. I can however see it as a collectors edition. Hopefully one of the other new sets will be something with Wat Tambor, and more Twi'leks, and a set with Zero the hut or Jabba!!!

That new Tie Fighter looks amazing and is a must for me. It looks much better than previous reincarnations and the figures seem quite good too. I bet it will cost $49.99 and £40.99.

Does any one know the names of the other five sets coming in jan?

WOW!!! I'm SOOOOOOOO excited about the Queen Amidala figure!!!!!!!! Finally!!!!!!!!

Posted by Uno Brick in United States, 25 Jul 2011 19:52

I find the new TIE fighter impressive, a good deal more movie accurate and better overall. In the older TIE's, the grilles used vertically to create the illusion of an angle was ok, but actual angles and a grey border around the wing really is taking the model a step higher. It's also a nice plus to have 4 new unique figs (with the exception of the Imperial Officer, which I think this is the smallest set it's come in recently) with a nice assortment of new fig parts. Overall, from my viewpoint, this set is one of the most well-designed/visually appealing in the recent line-up of Star Wars sets. Definitely will be looking forward to this.

@Jarod98 - Your probably right, I thought to myself after I posted it that it probably won't be that much. I REALLY like that new Amidala. I hope the set she'll be in is that shiny silver ship. Chrome pieces galore! Hopefully it won't be like what they did with the Potc gold though :/

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 25 Jul 2011 20:19

starfire- Speaking of Jabba, I watched the LSW mini movie on CN and it included a Jabba's palace and Rancor! Its just a mini show but still, there's a chance.
I hope for Mos Eisly Cantina, one of those Senate floating things, Jabba's Palace, and some sort of battlepacks (Cough cough ewoks cough cough)

Posted by ShatteredGnome in United States, 25 Jul 2011 21:24

It's like lego has answered a call that i'm not sure even went out: they've seriously outdone themselves on the design for this TIE. It's even better than some MOCs i've seen. And the minifigs are not lacking at all in better designs and number. I hope the other sets for 2012 are this good as well.

@itsaturkey: we all hope for different things to be made into sets, but i think a senate chair thing is probably unlikely, unless its episode i or something. otherwise, with posstible OT sets, i would also like to see a new Jabba's palace or cantina, both of which i think are feasible.

An ewok/rebel trooper battlepack and new empire one would be awesome, but there is a dilemma with timing: the 30th anniversary of Return of the Jedi is in 2013, which throws off the CW-prequel/ OT alternating battle packs... although i could see a more random shift if the clone wars show ends in a year or two... I'm eager to see what 2012 brings; i'd like to see a new AT-ST even if it's been done a few times, as well as some sort of rebel starfighter or transport, even a smaller one. As for CW, whatever new stuff is on the show sort of dictates sets.

Hmm, new TIE design means they'll probably eventually re-do all the TIE ships.

I Hope we will Someday get a Re-release of the Cloud city set

Posted by The Reviewer in United States, 26 Jul 2011 00:53

Another great Star wars Expanded universe set would be the Rebel V-wing seen in the original SW Rouge Squadron video game for Nintendo 64 and PC. with minifigures of Kasan Moore and Wes Janson

Glad you all got to see some close ups of the pics I took, not that I'm looking for applause or anything but if thatollieGuy is claiming they are his... well he is...

@Jarod98 - They didn't go into specifics on which sets would be released other than the TIE fighter that is pictured and the mysterious set that includes Amidala. One of the panelists was asked how many new sets were going to be released and he said around six. Crossing my fingers that they are original trilogy sets - esp ROTJ since Celebration VI is in 2012.

Posted by Redbullgivesuwind in United Kingdom, 26 Jul 2011 05:35

nah they will re do lots of episode 1 sets to co incide with episode 1 in 3d which makes me think cruiser which will be £80 or theed place as someone else suggested again £80

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 26 Jul 2011 08:46

The new set that includes Queen Amidala will probably be released to coincide with the 3D release of Episode I: The Phantom Menace (which I think is February 2012 or thereabouts).

In the pictures, theres a guy with a jar jar hat and he's in the the California on comic con 3.

Posted by blazetrooper501 in United States, 26 Jul 2011 13:22

The new set looks cool but they should make a battle of naboo set from ep1 with a aat, battle droid commander, 2 battle droids,3 gungan warriors and a new kaadu that would be cool.

Posted by K-nut in United States, 26 Jul 2011 14:04

@blazetrooper501 - That might be the set Amidala comes in. I'd love to see that.

Posted by gamesgem in United Kingdom, 26 Jul 2011 15:30

The new Tie Fighter and figures look fantastic, I cant wait to pick this up, I just love the original triligy Star Wars sets, but I think we will be shocked at what they want for it.........it will not be cheap!!!

Posted by CaptainJonnyBoy in United States, 26 Jul 2011 16:56

You know how LEGO is... They'll probably do something more like the meeting at the Gungan's "Sacred Place"(Hopefully with kaadu's and maybe even Boss Nass), and will probably include her in a magnet set as well. You never know, they could do something lame like a "Throne room" or something.

Wait a minute... That's not Queen Amidala, that's just her decoy! JK.

Posted by blazetrooper501 in United States, 27 Jul 2011 10:25

@K-nut - Thanks for the comment about my idea I never thought Amidala could be in it nice idea.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 28 Jul 2011 18:42

The TIE looks awesome, and I think that it comes with some new parts. :) Queen Amidala looks pretty cool too.

Posted by Pepper in United States, 30 Jul 2011 10:51

The TIE is much better than the old one, except that the cockpit doesn't look quite right. Hopefully the rest of the 6 new sets are actually new, and not just more remakes. The Queen looks very nice in LEGO form.

Posted by jonbuddy in United States, 30 Jul 2011 13:29

I think that the way they're doing the Queen is pretty cool.

The Tie Fighter is just more of the same. I'm sure it will be as unstable as the others.

Posted by K-nut in United States, 30 Jul 2011 21:01

@blazetrooper501 - Maybe it wouldn't necessarily be that scene. maybe the Theed Palace Rescue, Basically the same but just at a different point in the film

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 31 Jul 2011 04:40

I think it will a Naboo cruiser, I don't think they would want to do a playset like the throne room, as it would be quite boring (although it would be nice to see a Rune Haako figure) which I think TLC would recognise. I doubt that we will get a set with Senate pods or anything like that but again that could warrant the release of some new senator Minifigures, as well as a Mas Amedda. I think we will get a Naboo cruiser set but I am a bit confused as to what set they would release with a queen Amidala.

Posted by bob123 in United States, 02 Aug 2011 19:42

What if TLG made theed place with Queen Amidala and some new minifigs like the palace gauds and some neimoidians (nute gunrays species) because there inside the palace in the movie.

Posted by Rocka 3.0 in United States, 02 Aug 2011 23:34

I really like the new Astromech! It makes me want to do all of the Astromechs from the R1 to the R9!
