    10222: Winter Village Post Office
    Seasonal/Winter Village, 2011
    More details...
    ©2011 LEGO Group

We had a sneak preview of this in the LEGO Collector book a few weeks ago. Now, today, it's been officially announced for a 1st October release:

    10222 Winter Village Post Office, 820 pieces, US $59.99, CA $79.99, DE €59.99 , UK £49.99

Continuing the winter scene series, the Winter Village Post Office is the perfect snow-covered setting. In the cozy post office, the worker is hard at work sorting all the mail into containers and sacks, while upstairs, there's just time for the postman to take a break before setting off in the traditional post car with all the letters and gifts. From the pavilion outside, musicians fill the air with music, while children take in the wintry atmosphere by the park bench before throwing snowballs at each other - the musicians had better get ready to duck!

    • Includes 7 minifigures: female post office worker, male postman, female, 2 kids and 2 musicians and a dog!
    • Post office features dark-green split roof with snow, fireplace, light brick, table, coffee mug, and lamp post and mailboxes outside!
    • Also features evergreen tree and assorted minifigure accessories.

OMG... A lego banjo! That could be an incentive to buy, even if it's not that interesting to me otherwise... Gotta love Lego instruments.

Posted by Aussie Tahu in Australia, 05 Aug 2011 18:15

I can't wait to get this, looks great.

Posted by LukeSkywalker in Ireland, 05 Aug 2011 18:23

And a LEGO brick-built saxophone! So much colour and charm. It's just brilliant, I just have to have this set! :)

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 05 Aug 2011 18:32

Gotta love that lamppost. :) AND the saxophone. :) Those two are MOC-standard! :)

Posted by BooMakuta! in United States, 05 Aug 2011 18:33

Pretty good...but how big a chunk will it take out of my money?

Posted by wunztwice in United States, 05 Aug 2011 18:58

$60, for 820 pieces. Not bad at all. All the nice architecture, charm and warm cozy feelings are still there. I for one, want to see how the pavilion roof is constructed.

I LOVE these sets, such a perfect substitution for a nativity scene in a non-religious household.

Posted by defiant.nx74205 in United States, 05 Aug 2011 19:58

I'm probably in a minority here, but I don't find it that charming or special...

Posted by macmon in Philippines, 05 Aug 2011 20:12

Christmas theme no 3! Every year 1 additional set! nice Seem a little smaller, but it may just be the way it is taken.

Posted by voypro in United States, 05 Aug 2011 20:12

@ pyrokid Is there a nativity scene Lego set that I missed? I would buy that set, I can see the mini figs now, angels with the yellow studs for halos. Joseph with a shepards hook. and baby Jesus head on 1x1 block. I think you just inspired me to do a custom job. Talk about a set that would be a huge seller for Lego.

Posted by MCNwakeboard in United Kingdom, 05 Aug 2011 20:19

Very nice looking set. I am not very excited about all the stickers but for the most part will be another nice addition to my winter village.

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 05 Aug 2011 20:20

I think the lamp-posts in each successive set are getting stranger :). That is an unusual design.

But no, I love that. While the building is pretty, I *love* the little swing band. That's so cute.

Posted by pyrokld in United States, 05 Aug 2011 22:05

@voypro not really, but they do the advent calendars... and many people used to put a piece up of their nativity each day of advent.

Posted by wildcherryp3psi in United States, 05 Aug 2011 22:20

I want this go along with my Winter Toy Shop and Winter Bakery

Posted by doodlebird in United States, 06 Aug 2011 00:37

@wunztwice - I think this video tries to show how the pavilion roof is constructed, but honestly, I didnt quite follow it.
I hope the link to the designer video works.

I think the banjo is a round plate with the clip at the back (like the road signs), however with the sticker unfortunately.

Posted by OhioBobcat555 in United States, 06 Aug 2011 01:18

It seems like LEGO actually gives us a Christmas present for once with this price. Too bad this does not happen more often. Seems like a great deal for the amount of pieces... and they have stayed consistent with this pricing for the few years they have done these sets.

I hope they continue the line. I have bought each and they're wonderful. LEGO should have been playing up the Christmas/ Holiday/ Winter angle for a long time. It is win/win/win...

I completely agree with ronny here. I have the other 2 sets so of course I'll get this one too but to be honest, I much prefer the other two. The main building I find not to be as arcitechturally clever as the other two. I also find it strange how the others have snow covered rooves and this has patches of snow. This makes the theme less consistent and would make it seem as though one side of the village is melting. I find the lamp extremely over the top. sticking to the design of the one in the toy shop would have looked better and would have been more consistent. To me the pavillion just looks messy and the green hood on a grey top doesn't look right on the shovel man. I find it strange hoe they've used the old-style hair on not just the man but the boy aswell! surely they could use more modern looking hair now. Having said all this, the set does look good, just not perfect like the other two and i'm sure mixed in with the other christmas sets in a display, it will look great.

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 06 Aug 2011 05:35

Great looking set, but I have a feeling the banjo may be a road sign piece (as mentioned by train_nut) held in one hand, and a tan rod piece held in the other, then they have been moved around a bit so it looks like one piece.

Posted by ericjohn in United States, 06 Aug 2011 08:01

I'm a fan of the building and accessories, but why does each building in this "village" have a differently designed lamp post all of differing proportions? This one is so tall but then looks like the minifigure on tiptoes could almost reach the dome! This lamp post will probably be left in the box... Kind of tacky.

I love the gazebo and the mail sacks. What a great piece!

Posted by The Baron in United Kingdom, 06 Aug 2011 08:49

Looks very nice but I'd rather there were less minifigs and therefore a reduced price.

Posted by K-nut in United States, 06 Aug 2011 08:53

I LOVE that brick built sax! And I do believe we get a new torso with this. Probably just me or does the actual building look small to anyone?

Posted by Dodge in Canada, 06 Aug 2011 09:05

This will be a 'get' for me (to go with the other two set of coarse). I really like the truck! It has a great design! I'll be looking forward to this one.

Posted by BooMakuta! in United States, 06 Aug 2011 11:22

@wunztwice-ah, so that's how much it costs. But I was saving up for all the Savage Planet sets. I missed out on the first two Winter Village sets and I think I will again...

Posted by Legoguy29 in United States, 06 Aug 2011 11:52

Savage Planet sets? :S what are those...

Posted by Juno in United States, 06 Aug 2011 12:14

@BooMakuta, did you mean Alien Conquest? 'Cuz I've never heard of Savage Planet sets. :D If anyone hadn't noticed, if you look on the truck, there's a pair of snow shoes. And the snow shoes are a new mold. :) Me likey! I think the set is nice, and I'll totally be getting it. I have the other two......when they did the roof, I think they just wanted it to look different from the other sets. Again...nice set!

Posted by minifig051 in United States, 06 Aug 2011 14:19

@Juno: Those snow shoes don't look new to me. They look exactly like the snow shoes I have that I got in the Adventurers Orient Expedition mountain temple set.

I'm thinking I might want to get this one. It includes a few new torso prints, one of which is seen only in this set. This has two female hair pieces that I want to get. I like the mail truck, it reminds me of the mail truck that the mailman narrator in Rudouph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was driving. Was anyone else thinking the same thing?

Posted by Skywalker1966 in United States, 06 Aug 2011 15:21

Oh, man. That looks like the best one yet! Does anyone know when it will be released? I need to get it, now!

LEGO instruments, classic car filled with presents, more of those great minifigs and the coolest building the LEGO Winter Village line has ever had!

I can't wait for it!

@brix - Where I live we get quite a decent amount of snow each year, at least four feet over the course of the season (recent years have been about twice that). With that said, I don't think it is unusual for there to be different amounts of snow on different buildings' roof tops. The flatter the roof, the less likely snow is to slide off, the steeper the roof the more likely the snow will slide off.

Also, a roof that is exposed to sunlight will lose its snow quicker than a roof in the shade. You can see that with North-facing porch roofs, for example, which get no direct sunlight, whereas south facing get the most sunlight, and east/west getting somewhere in between.

Posted by The Toymaker in United Kingdom, 06 Aug 2011 18:27

@meyerc13 - plus, don't forget that the rate melting will also depend on the insulation of the building, so the WVPO is obviously a far less efficient building in terms of heat retention than WVTS or WVB. Maybe something to do with the strange chimney design ;-)

@CapnRex101 - one of the other images shows the "banjo" being held in one hand with the other free, so it must be connected.

Does anyone else find the roof apex of the lower section rather clunky ?

Otherwise a fab set - can't wait to get it.

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 06 Aug 2011 19:15

Wow, another great village set! The price is fantastic. Although I would prefer just a little more snow on the roofs, but nothing I can't fix :)

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 06 Aug 2011 20:27

Yeah, the roof here is *very* steep. So that explains the lack of snow compared to the other two.

I do feel bad for Santa. Hope he has his climbing gear :).

Posted by Juno in United States, 06 Aug 2011 21:05

Now they need to make a house. With a christmas tree and maybe Santa on the roof.... :D @minifig051, when I said new...I kinda meant "not seen" in awhile.

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 06 Aug 2011 22:45

I'm still hoping for a train station. That'd be AWESOME.

Posted by macmon in Philippines, 07 Aug 2011 10:27

Wow that would be a good one if they make a train station

Posted by BooMakuta! in United States, 07 Aug 2011 11:52

@Legoguy29 and Juno-Savage Planet sets are the new Hero Factory sets.

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 07 Aug 2011 13:19

Awesome. But you know what I wish they'd bring back? This old gem...

http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=10173-1

This new set looks awesome. Lot's o' neat stuff

Posted by K-nut in United States, 07 Aug 2011 16:54

TooMuchLego - OMG! Totally! I never knew that existed!

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 07 Aug 2011 18:10

Looks nice. The Post logo in the set is similar to Sweden's Post logo.

Posted by Zordboy in Australia, 07 Aug 2011 20:39

TooMuchLego -- yeah, exactly. They've already got the train, and they're steadily building the village, so there has to be a train station somewhere.

Posted by scholte23 in Australia, 08 Aug 2011 02:36

Seen this set at BrickExpo in Canberra on the weekend, Jamie Berard brought it over directly from Billund, he gave a speech on the Modular Buildings and he was just amazing

Posted by helo-one in Netherlands, 08 Aug 2011 11:51

This set will go nice with the toy shop, the bakkery and the christmas train, all under the christmas tree, my two daughters can't wait to build a little town each year... now waiting for a train station... or something else.

Posted by slave2leia in United States, 09 Aug 2011 11:40

I can not wait to get this set. When I discovered the Winter "Christmas" Village sets last year I knew I had to have them. I love decorating at Christmas, my mom always had a Dept. 56 village, now I have a one made of Lego. I really hope this theme keeps going, the Post Office looks really great I do with they all had matching lamp posts. Now if only Lego reissue or make a new Christmas Train. The old one goes for over $250 of eBay.

Posted by Skywalker1966 in United States, 09 Aug 2011 17:18

@slave2leia: Yeah, I really hope they do another one, too. I really like Christmas stuff (it's not just the presents, it the time of year. I kinda feel nostalgic playing/displaying these sets) and, once I finish building the town with this post office set, I would buy the train, some track and MOC and train station, complete with trees and lights. Ah, I wish it was Christmastime instead of regularly being 100+ degrees...
