Following on from the heated debate we had earlier in the week about this set, I have some good news and bad.

The bad news is that despite the image on the bag showing a white Jack Sparrow face, it is in fact the plain, normal, face that's appeared in other sets.

The good news is that PotC minifig collectors won't now have to tear their hair out trying to get hold of it!

Thanks to keithkram for sending me one to photograph. I've now scanned the bag which clearly shows the white face. What a disappointment!

Blame the lighting, then. :P

I've contacted customer service who will either (a) tell me the picture is a mistake or (b) send me a white face. Hopefully the latter!

@LEGOlas: It's the lighting of the minifig face which makes it look white. :P

EDIT: Now that there's a clearer image, it looks like it's a normal head. Good and bad. :P

Until it was explicitly mentioned in this article, I couldn't even tell it was supposedly a different face. Clearly a trick of the light.

it looks white to me.

^ I have to disgaree, the bag clearly shows a white face. The black markings are the same as the regular face but the bit between the cheek lines is definitely white.

@Huw: I think it's just the lighting, really. And why would Jack have a white face anyway?

The bag clearly shows a white face. Does it make sense? Not really. But then again it wouldn't really make sense to have same old Jack in a polybag.

Looked LtFlesh before to me... maybe it was just me.

That picture is really confusing.

Any news on how this is going to be available though?

To me it just looks like the lighting, but that is just a picture if the bag, so I could be wrong.

It looks white in the pic to me. Could be a trick of the lighting, or it could have been badly retouched from the original photo.

What no-one seems to have said (does anyone even know) where did this come from? What was it released with as a promo?

Anyone?

That's not bad lighting on the photo to result in white face. It's a BAD bit of retouching. It's most likely that the original photo was a poor shot, and the graphics department had to re-light the model using editing software - but accidentally left the face looking white during the process... OR they intended to include a white faced model, but changed it last minute - but forgot to adjust the bag.

hmmm... is it really the bad lighting and bad touch ups??? where this polybag info came from?? seems to me someone intended to alter Jack Sparrow minifig face/ In that case people will think it's a new polybag set and it will generate quick $$ for the seller... may be I'm over reacting but that's the only direction my thought headed and went.

@dewballer: The newspiece says that Huw scanned the actual bag - so the whitened face is on the actual bag itself, not a retouched photo OF the bag by unscrupulous seller.

As I don't think a minifigure can be lit in such a way to effect the face over the mouth but not under it, it has to be a retouching error. So the retouching i think has happened occurred within the graphics department of the Lego company, when designing the bag. I think somebody selected the face-area in order to make the features more prominent and clear, but accidentally left a slight white 'mask' effect over the pink area inside the face features.

Or it could be the reverse of what i thought... i.e. that they had to darken the skin tones of a too-bright image, (rather than correct for shadows of a dark image), and actually FORGOT to retouch the area of the face. :o)
