This neat little set was found by Mariann over at Model Building Secrets at LEGOLAND (California, I presume) recently. Apparently it's to be used for 'table decoration' only but I'm sure it would look very cool on top of a wedding cake.

While in the Milton Keynes shop at the weekend I noticed that they sell bagged-up bride and groom sets, presumably in response to in-store requests for them, so I'm sure this neatly packaged official set is going to be very popular. It would make sense for it to be available 'for ever more' because demand for it will surely be continuous.

Good grief. :P Well, a LEGO-loving couple can finally have a LEGO set to match... XD

Hehe, a nice little set indeed. I hope it will be available for ever more. I can see it on my wedding cake... :P

That hairpiece looks familiar....

At the time, we weren't allowed to say what it was from ;-)

I think the hairpiece is actually this http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=64807 but seems to give you the option of brown, black and blonde (which is a new colour), so looks like we've got your hairpiece still to come somewhere.

@Andhe - it might be, I can't tell from the photo. In which case I still can't say what it's from!

Posted by Andhe in United Kingdom, 19 Sep 2011 11:40

@warren - I don't think you know where it's from! :P (though 'the Queen' does have a grey version in your photo, which is also new, unless you painted it yourself). http://www.flickr.com/photos/model_gal/6151679617/

That is indescribably cute. I'm absolutely certain that I'll simply need one in the event that I marry in the future; if the theoretical wife-to-be isn't down with that, then the wedding is /off/. :P

Posted by axisvega in United States, 19 Sep 2011 12:38

I wish this had come out a year ago, it would have saved me time scouring bricklink for a good bride and groom. And yes, my wife let me have minifigs on our wedding cake. :)

Shucks! this woulda been cool 14 months ago when I got married. I actually made up a bride and groom, but any time I should any of the different premutations I had worked on (including the sportscar from Indy's car chase - 7682) to my then fiancée she poopooed them. Needless to say I called the wedding off. Ok I didn't, and I really wasn't that miffed at all, I just thought it woulda been cool to have a lego couple on our wedding cake. I might get this and pull it out on our anniversaries. Can't go wrong with this - though it is probably too expensive. Any word on whether the minifigs are European or Chinese made?

Posted by warrenelsmore in United Kingdom, 19 Sep 2011 13:05

@Andhe - well, I know where I was *told* it was from at least! I suspect it's going to be in a bunch of 2012 sets.

The parts we had on display were prototypes from Billund, which meant that they had to be escorted over and kept in a locked case at all times. Sadly, it also meant that they went back after the show :-( I don't know if they were painted or not, but I'd assume so as they were 3D printed at that point because the moulds weren't ready.

What are the ones at LSMK like @Huw?

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 19 Sep 2011 15:15

I didn't look that closely as they are in a mostly opaque bag but I did notice the bride had a plain white torso and dress slope

Well, I know what'll be going on MY wedding cake... Assuming I do -in fact- get married. Someday far in the future... Ah, who am I kidding. All of you, that's who!

Posted by BrickBob09 in United Kingdom, 19 Sep 2011 15:51

I just realised that it says "For table decoration only", so I'm presuming this indicates it's not actually meant to sit on the cake itself.
Ah well, who cares! I'm sure we'd all just chuck it on anyway :P

Posted by CaptainJonnyBoy in United States, 19 Sep 2011 15:55

^ Precisely.

Posted by AETerry in United States, 19 Sep 2011 16:55

If I get married again, I want this for the table or on the actual cake.

Posted by legogeek in United States, 19 Sep 2011 17:02

Me want.
Since my wife isn't a LEGOmaniac, I'm sure she would think it's tacky... but I like it and think it would go great with my LEGO town. ;oP
Hope it hits the LEGO store @ DT Disney soon.

Huw, what were the bride & groom sets like in MK? I think I may be overdue a trip down there...

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 19 Sep 2011 17:19

Plastic form of love.

How far could this go? Have a look at this couple's Lego themed wedding.
Great cake, by the way.

That's great!

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 19 Sep 2011 17:54

At LSMK they are not in a kit per-se, they are just two figs in a small yellow polybag. the bride is plain and the groom has a torso similar to this one. I didn't notice the hair/heads.

Posted by DreDarling in United States, 19 Sep 2011 17:58

I wonder if they could sell just Groom & Groom sets.

Posted by jsworpin in United Kingdom, 19 Sep 2011 18:18

Would be nice if they sold the bride and groom separately. My partner and I need two grooms for our cake do t want to buy two - would then have two unwanted brides.

Posted by jsworpin in United Kingdom, 19 Sep 2011 18:20

Didnt see DreDarling's post

Posted by ALSTDA in United Kingdom, 19 Sep 2011 18:40

gotta get that for my wedding - although a girlfriend really ought to be found first! Can see it at the top of a no-fruit, no-marzipan chocolate cake!

I made a cake for a friends wedding last year. They wanted a cake competition so I did mine then had a lego bride and groom on top of the cake. Had there been one of these sets for sale i could have used it. As it happened my mum had designed for few in her spare time (she's 65 but got into lego because of the grand-children) and she then personalized it putting their names on it. The cake won best presentation which was a nice surprise. Link to a couple pics of it: http://imageshack.us/g/194/img1486ue.jpg/

I expect this to be at least $5 if it comes out, but no more than about $15-20.

Posted by Model Gal in United States, 19 Sep 2011 23:56

The cost is $9.99.

The reason its "for table decoration only" is that the round bottom part is compressed paper so it would get damaged on the cake. If you don't put the 4x8 on the round part you can put that on the cake.

The hair piece is the same one that Princess Leia has in dark brown. The set comes with it in dark brown, reddish brown and blond. This is the first time blond has ever been available.

As I'm the one who got the set and posted the pictures, I'd know ;)

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 20 Sep 2011 18:31

@Legolas1: No, he's referring to Isabella in his username, off of Phineas and Ferb.

Posted by Model Gal in United States, 20 Sep 2011 18:50

@Legolas1: I'm not married to anybody, at least not yet. I bought it so I could review and share it, and for the fun new printed torso and hair elements.

We *are* a Lego couple, and we're getting married next month, and we actually custom-assembled a similar set for our cake. My minifig matches the one shown perfectly, but hers more closely resembles her actual dress, I'm told. = ) We're planning other Lego touches too, but we want them to be subtle.
