I'm sure you haven't forgotten -- how could you --but just in case, nip into WHS tomorrow and pick up this mini Venator class star destroyer with a copy of The Sun.

LostInTranslation received a mailshot about the promotion that says that some of the bags will have 'golden bricks' inside them and if you find one you could win £10,000 in real gold bars! So, you'd better be sure to open all you get!

It's a bit like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, isn't it!

I forgot. D:

Posted by LostInTranslation in United Kingdom, 07 Oct 2011 18:37

Lol, I thought of Charlie too. Shame a factory tour isn't one of the prizes, but I'd settle for the Death Star or Tower bridge. Or £10,000, not fussed either way. Will not be happy if I pick up extras for trades and they end up containing golden bricks though...

Posted by LostInTranslation in United Kingdom, 07 Oct 2011 18:40

And now going offtopic but thinking Willy Wonka's factory would make an awesome MOC... anyone ever tried it?

Here's the youtube link too. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZY8doMikq0

Awesome. I wish I could subscribe to the Sun. And since it is in a bag, all Collectable Minifigure Collectors could feel for the gold bricks. Just an idea.

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 07 Oct 2011 19:22

Golden bricks? That's good.

Posted by war44lock in New Zealand, 07 Oct 2011 22:00

^Golden bars? Thats better!

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 03:03

If anyone finds a gold brick, why not comment here?

Posted by BrickBob09 in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 03:23

@chrismajor2124; Feeling for a gold brick would be a nice idea but you'd probably have to check all the bags in several stores before your find one. Also, last time a free offer like this occurred, the bags were behind a counter and the shop assistant just hands you one. (At least this is what happened in my local WHSmiths)

The gold brick thing seems like a really nice idea. £10,000 seems like the main prize, so I think only one person will win it. The other prizes still look good though, although I must admit, I'd be happy just with a gold brick in my collection :P

Just picked up my Venator from WHS in Taunton, there is no 'mail away' option again :( no frenzy though like last time !

Posted by BrickBob09 in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 04:22

@jamzee44; On the e-mail LostInTranslation received it says "Simply collect a token from The Sun every day next week, fill in your details and exchange it for your free LEGO toy at WHSmith or Toys R Us."
So there should be a mail-away option, it will just be in the last paper when people have all the tokens ;)

Posted by billy1102 in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 04:31

On 'The Sun' website it says the promotion starts today.

Posted by Jabba the Taff in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 04:45

Just built my Venator. Nice little model. Does definitely seem to be more stock this time judging by my local little WHS.

Posted by DarthLuke824 in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 05:30

I just came back from Toys R Us leicester and still had a box full! Pretty cute model, and the best thing, NO crowds like last time! No golden brick though. :(

Posted by supersympa in Sweden, 08 Oct 2011 06:16

My friend in London (who does not know anything about Lego) bought the paper today and got a LAB (30111) instead of the Venator?!??
anybody else got the same ?

Posted by keithkram in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 06:17

no frenzy near me, but being strict on one per customer so that should mean they dont run out

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 06:45

One per paper for me, so clearly depends on who's manning the till (or checkout if you're from the US)....

Posted by LostInTranslation in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 06:48

Yep, I've definitely been very lucky today. 6 papers, 7 polys (Smiths guy couldn't count), no questions asked!

Posted by Wiseman_2 in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 08:18

Can't be bothered with the trek to town today... only one I'm interested in is the truck anyway.

Posted by madplanet in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 08:48

Hey guys when I went to pick up my set, the guy getting them was 'having a feel'. So keep your eyes peeled as I think some staff members are putting aside winners.

Posted by legover in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 09:17

WHSmiths at Merry Hell had a considerable amount of papers. Bought two, got two sets, no problem. Went in Toys R Us before leaving, there was a chap at the counter with a pile of Suns being told "Only one per customer." (eBays loss I guess.) Got home, built set and was pleasantly surprised. I'd not been too impressed with the image on the bag, but built up it's a rarther nice little ship. :-)

Posted by meccanotwitch in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 09:30

Went to my local WHS this morning got four papers and four sets. I have opened two without any luck on the golden brick. I plant to keep the other two as sealed sets, although I have had a feel at the bag but can't feel anything extra. Mind you what kind of brick is it, is it a standard 2 x 4?

Posted by bricksan in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 11:07

Got mine and although not a Star Wars fan enjoyed building the little set, no golden brick though. The WHSmith store had boxes of LEGO behind the counter as well.

Posted by bodybomb3 in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 11:08

I got one at a store without them checking the voucher then went to another store, because I was near one whilst doing something else, and got another with the same voucher!

Posted by the brownie in Ireland, 08 Oct 2011 11:32

yes it is a standard 2x4 i got saturdays and i love it

Posted by jamzee44 in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 12:30

@BrickBob09 hmmm yes but there is a space on the coupon to fill in your details if you want to receive more promotion info etc, there is no mention of a mail-away - it may be a bit too much of a gamble to wait!

Posted by Cam'n'Stu in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 12:58

My WH Smith was doing a good trade in Suns today but no major queue. They were taking their time to cross out the vouchers this time too.

Posted by TheCahleySlash in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 13:51

I got 10 papers, mainly because its SW and also because of the many useful parts included inside them. For the other promo's I won't be buying 10 but more like 6/7.

Posted by legoboy12345678 in United Kingdom, 08 Oct 2011 16:22

I picked up one, check out my review of it http://www.brickset.com/reviews/?Set=30053-1

Posted by Doctor Leg O'Brick in United Kingdom, 09 Oct 2011 04:58

Got it yesterday, unlike most WHS they where selling like the world was going to end! They had to restock Sun news papers twice. Nice ship and usefull parts.

Posted by Jabba the Taff in United Kingdom, 09 Oct 2011 12:34

Does anyone else have really loose binoculars on this model? I've built two and both are the same.

Posted by DrDaveWatford in United Kingdom, 09 Oct 2011 14:06

^ Yep - they don't sit very comfortably on top of the 1x2 45 degree slope, do they ?

Posted by Lunchie in United Kingdom, 09 Oct 2011 15:24

No queues at my local WHSmith in Dorking yesterday - I reckon most Dad's had yet to move after watching the rugby. I went before the final whistle!

Nice little model. I'm disappointed to see 2 Harry Potter's though - I POTC would have been nice instead.

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 09 Oct 2011 17:09

Great to see that the Alien Conquest promo is in there, definitely worth purchasing multiples! But it is a shame that walker from a while ago is not included (yet).

Posted by keithkram in United Kingdom, 10 Oct 2011 04:09

you wont ge tmultiples in my local branch, after someone went in on saturday and bought 50 papers and then went back with coupons, they are no restrcting to 1 per customer and taking the coupon out of the paper. so someone has spolt it for everyone else.

Posted by Scottieuk in United Kingdom, 10 Oct 2011 07:49

Got 3 Harry Potter 30111 sets today from WHSmiths in L1 Liverpool, woman at the till was shouting at everyone telling them to remove the voucher before they got to the till.

I got the venator on Saturday and they just gave me 2 sets without taking the vouchers.

90p for 3 HP sets is amazing

Posted by legoboy12345678 in United Kingdom, 10 Oct 2011 07:59

^ I got three as well

Posted by trax_3 in United Kingdom, 10 Oct 2011 08:27

After last time was expecting a big scrum at my local WHSmiths saturday but was wrong. 10 people waiting outside for the store to open. This morning made it at 9.30 and still a plentiful supply of lego.

Posted by meccanotwitch in United Kingdom, 10 Oct 2011 09:42

Got my 3 sets today and the woman said there was no restrictions unless someone went over the top and made it obvious they were for e-bay.
Nice little set, I will build one and keep two sealed.
My Smiths is about 8 mile away so it makes a good cycle training ride, and saves on the diesel and parking costs

Posted by beegeedee in Ireland, 10 Oct 2011 10:42

I went into Tescos (ROI) and they had the Ninjago set instead, I suspect a mistake somewhere. The customer services woman gave me an extra Venator as well as they had some left over from Saturday. Also never clipped the coupons so popped to Smyths at lunch and grabbed my Harry Potter ones too - yeah, they had some left at 1pm...

Papers are a bit more pricey here at 95c each...not that I'll be reading it.

Posted by TheCahleySlash in United Kingdom, 10 Oct 2011 12:16

I've made a bricklist containing all the Newspaper promotions done in the UK from 2008 to 2011,if any one needs a list

ps It wasn't very busy in W H Smiths today, mainly lots of seniors buying the sun

Posted by Pantboy in United Kingdom, 10 Oct 2011 12:35

No problems getting multiples at my local WHS, no queues at all either today or saturday, although today the lady at the checkout asked me to write my name on each voucher.

Posted by the brownie in Ireland, 10 Oct 2011 16:35

i got fridays ninjago on monday and i got hp today also

Posted by supersympa in Sweden, 11 Oct 2011 03:34
