Couple of tweaks to the site

  • Couple of tweaks to the site

Posted by Huw, 31 Jul 2008 18:10. Filed under Brickset.

Brickset has been displaying 'Buy now' links to LEGOShop.com since October last year. During this time I've been collecting availability dates and price information. This is now displayed on the set detail pages (e.g. this one). The price is also shown in the listings.

I hope you find that useful.

Why can't you add a CANADA link because some people that use Brickset live in CANADA !

Posted by Leggodt94 in United States, 31 Jul 2008 18:58

I don't understand, what did you add to the site, huw?

Posted by hustla187 in United States, 31 Jul 2008 19:37

It is useful in both U.S. and U.K.

Posted by chucky12 in Australia, 31 Jul 2008 19:40

It's a great start Huw. i applaud your efforts. Unfortunately the prices does not reflect sale items.
ie. 851917 is listed as 35 pounds when it's on sale for 10 pounds. Is it update in real time?
That aside, it will be useful to gather the RRP for all the current sets so they may be added to the next version of the Collector's Guide!!

OOOOOOOOOOHHH, I get it now! Very clever, huw! :D

Posted by Gus263 in N/A, 31 Jul 2008 21:09

I think it is really very useful, by this way is more easy to find prices (in other sites like bricklink or ebay) and see when it was available for purchase, very clever. But as I live in Brazil, here you cannot find any Lego Shop, only toy shops with expensive Lego sets. To me it don't makes much differences, but at least by this way is easier to know a bit more about the set availability when buying by other countries.

This is very useful, Huw, thanks.

@brankell5566: I'd love to add Canada, Germany, Japan, Australia and everywhere else but unfortunately LEGO don't have affiliate schemes available in these markets.

@chucky12: The price shown is the retail price. If the set is still available then the price shown in the 'Buy this set' box will be the current price.

It does this because I figured that when the set has been discontinued it is probably more useful to show the retail price rather than the sale price.

Posted by Leggodt94 in United States, 01 Aug 2008 09:18

But, wait, if you purchase a set off brickset and it's been discounted on lego.com, then you still get it for the discount price, right, huw?

brilliant..will reduce the need to surf the net to find the newly released TECHNICS sets..and a better idea when there coming..and lower blood pressure!!thanks.
AJ.

@Leggodt: Yes, of course! There may be differences in the price shown in the 'buy this set' and that on LEGOshop.com but the price you pay will always be that on LEGOshop.com. Because our feed is a couple of days behind, prices can change in that time.

Posted by lego12 in United States, 01 Aug 2008 11:16

Well, Huw you out did yourself again! I congratulate you for making Brickset an easier place to visit. I always look at old sets and wonder what the price was, now i'll know what the prices were! :D

I was interested in getting the Echo Base set, and it was available from October 2007-July 31, 2008. That was yesterday, and so does that mean it's no longer available?

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 01 Aug 2008 11:46

No, it means I haven't updated the data yet. It should really show any date greater than today-5 days or so as 'to date' so I will change that.

Thanks Huw, Normally to find the retail I would have to use the Peeron link and then double the price to find the correct currency for NZ. This way is much quicker, Thanks.

Umm, Huw? I am having troubles veiwing certain sets on this site. I had just added 6212 to my collection and now I can't get into it despite trying my best to enter it using as many ways as possible. It justs displays a message concerning some sort of error. I've tried logging out and trying it, I've tried it in new tabs, I've tried searching for it in different ways but it simply won't show itself to me. can other users try to enter this link: http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6212-1
If you can get into try add it to your collection and then take it off again or something. If you can see the error message, then tell me that it isn't just me. Could you fix this error Huw?

Posted by Imperial13 in United States, 02 Aug 2008 00:51

Great, even though we don't have the retails for the older sets. I also see you've re-organized the themes to be much more compact. It also looks like you deleted some, put something must be wrong with my eyes :P

Posted by brankell5566 in Canada, 02 Aug 2008 12:00

Umm Huw, Evety time I click on the railroad tracks this ERROR note pops can you fix this? thank you

Posted by Leggodt94 in United States, 02 Aug 2008 14:45

Luke Skytalker, I can get into that link just fine, and I already have that set in my collection.

Posted by Luke Skytalker in New Zealand, 02 Aug 2008 16:49

Yep, the problem is fixed now. But it seems that brankell5566 is having much the same problem.

Posted by brankell5566 in Canada, 02 Aug 2008 18:39

Thank you Luke Skytalker
