Logging Truck: Air Tech Claw Rig homage, released 20 years after the original. :P Huw, did you get teary-eyed when you saw it? XD

EDIT: I searched "Huw" in the members list, and... well... http://www.brickset.com/myFriends/?field=name&query=huw 7 different Huws, excluding his daughter Alice. :P What's curious, though, is the "Huw@work" account...

They look nice.

@ Alemas, The Air Tech Claw Rig was 20 years ago, I am feeling my age!

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 15 Oct 2011 08:56

@jon: Whoops, my mistake. :P

Air Tech Claw Rig came out in 1992... 19 years ago.

They all look rather good, actually. 2011 1h was a bit duff if I'm honest, but 2012 looks great already. I especially like that Logging truck.

@Wiseman: It will be 20 years in 2012. :P

@Wiseman_2, the excavator was excellent from the first half of this year, good size with lots of functionlity, with suprisingly few parts. I am just gutted I paid £50, now that in several places you can get it for £35.

That log truck looks fantastic, but my Unimog took all my LEGO room :(

That little orange truck is adorable :D I'll put it in the back of the unimog

I like the mini-Unimog.

Too many special pieces, as per usual. Technics is becoming less about the understanding of building principles/how things work, and more about what can look good for higher prices.

@miniroll: I agree. This year's Supercar shows just that: It has gimmicks such as opening doors, hood, boot, pop-up wing, and basic stuff such as steering and suspension. It's more about looks rather than functionality. They should combine the two better. Right now, it's 70% looks and 30% functionalilty. I want a 50-50 split.

@jon11380:
Oh yeah, the Backhoe was a pretty good set. Great, actually, but the rest of the sets were mediocre.

@miniroll32:
Special pieces? Except for that new mini-turntable (which will be all kinds of useful for MOCs), I don't see anything that hasn't been fairly extensive used in the Technic line in the last decade...

I really like the mini crane ,quad bike and the Logging truck. I love the mini version of the Unimog.

You can clearly see the "Mini Tow Truck" is really a mini-Unimog: It's orange, and the cab has the characteristic 'mog shape. :) I wonder how LEGO managed to get away with it without the Unimog company noticing the similarity...

Huw, in your honest opinion, do I post too many comments in the same article?... :P

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 15 Oct 2011 19:34

The mini 'mog box art is different from the promo image. :P There are no bushes at the ends of the front axle in the promo image, while there are in the box art. :P

Just noticed something. The 8880 Supercar no longer has the biggest set number. All these sets are in the 9000-range. I HATE YA, LEGO!!! :P I bet 8880 fans will become furious when they realise what LEGO did...

These look amazing!!! Overall the 2012 sets are looking pretty good, with the exception of the Superheroes line..... good job with the Technic sets though Lego!

I also agree with @miniroll32, there just isn't enough technical functinality within the larger technic sets. Even the Unimog, I feel, could have had a transmission and drive from the motor.
I wonder if we will see another REAL supercar anytime soon.

A nice budget alternative to the 150 quid full size mercedes unimog

The Mini Umimog(a.k.a Mini tow truck) look great!

AVCampos has made a post about the new mini turntable at technicbricks:
