In addition to the ongoing sale at Toys R Us this week, there are some new discounts beginning today Friday 11/18 and ending tomorrow, Saturday 11/19.  As a "Doorbuster" promotion (i.e. only valid from 3 PM Friday through 1PM Saturday), all Star Wars LEGO sets priced at $14.99 or lower are 25% Off the normal (inflated) TRU price.  This discount really only applies to the Vulture Droid polybag (30055) and the four recent battle packs (7913, 7914, 8084, 8083).  While the Vulture Droid polybag does drop to $3.74, the battlepacks basically only return to MSRP.  With the "Extra Super Wow" coupon, however, you get an additional 20% Off which would bring the battle packs down to more comfortable $8.99 and the Vulture Droid polybag to $2.99.  While all are currently in stock (and already on sale) online, it's currently unclear to me if there's a corresponding "Extra Super Wow" code for online purchases.

Also part of this 2 Day Sale but not a doorbuster, you will save $10 on ANY LEGO Pharaoh's Quest, Atlantis, Creator or Technic purchase of $50 or more.  This "so-so" discount does indeed stack with the current Hillside House (5771) discount, bringing it down to a whopping 40% Off MSRP!

Silly me, I bought the Hillside House earlier this week... Note that with the extra $10 discount, you won't get free shipping because the price drops below $49. Shipping for the Hillside House by itself is $9.49. You'll need to add about $7 to get free shipping. You can add 4 CMF Series 5 figures at $5 for 2 to get the free shipping (or whatever else you'd like!).
On Amazon, the only sellers for this set are third-party sellers... The lowest price is $71.59 + $5.99 shipping.
OK, update, so I ordered it again and I will try to return the first one.

But is TRU charging an extra ten dollars less than the 25% off or is it going to be off some marked-up price? That is the question!

Posted by yellowcastle in United States, 18 Nov 2011 11:53

@sithcookie - As noted above, the promotional price for the Hillside House is 40% Off MSRP or $42.49.

This works out nicely.

I typically don't buy the battle packs at TRU due to their 25% markup. Even durring their BOGOs, you are still only getting MSRP. Instead I wait for a store with actual MSRP pricing to have a BOGO-50 (such as KMart or Meijer). For whatever reason, I haven't caught any of those sales this year though. But at $8.99 a piece at TRU that's $18.00 for two which is exactly what you'd pay during a BOGO-50 at a store with normal MSRP pricing.

TRU didn't mark up the price on Hillside House. Their normal price is the MSRP of $69.99 which is the same as Lego S@H

Armed with a LEGO catalog (or an app if you have one of those fancy phones), it's very easy to find which sets have been marked up. What sharky said is correct about Hillside House. I was in TRU earlier and along with these sales, they have Ninjago Skeleton Bowling at 19.99 (half off), plus I spotted the new Forest City sets and Dinos. How nice to get a new set at a discount, eh?! Might buy a Forest set, but I know my son really wants Hillside House and our local LEGO store keeps selling out of 'em.

Be careful at TRU B&M, I just picked up the Hillside House and TRU rung up the discounts in such a way that it costs more then it did online:

B&M store rung up as:
$69.99 - $10 off = $59.99
$59.99 - $15 (25%) = $44.99

Where Online it rings up as:
$69.99 - $17.50 (25%) = $52.49
$52.49 - $10 = $42.49

I know this is only a $2.50 difference but I explained this at my local TRU and they did fix it.
Just be careful when buying in B&M to verify the discount they apply matches what it should be.

Thanks, andystar, for pointing that out.
Forgot to add that my TRU also had the new Ninjago sets.

Yeah, TRU pulled this when they had the Alien Conquest Mothership at $49.99 (normally $59.99) and BOGO. I bought two and the "half-off" one came in at $30, not $25, which is bull.

@sithcookie: Some sets are normal priced, other are marked up. The 2012 $20 city sets on LEGO.com are $20 at TRU as well.

Worked for me on the vulture droid polybags. $2.99 after discounts before tax!!! Dumb TRU employees telling me the 20% off wouldn't work, then when it did, I wanted to stick my tongue out at her! Instead I politely took my receipt and bag and left.

I'm a new TRU rewards user. My account says: August 1, 2011 - October 31, 2011 = $605
I only have 2 $5 off coupons and one $5 off coupon usable in December. This doesn't sound right to me. This would be a reward of 2.5%, with date restrictions. Is that correct?

BOGO online only right now on TRU website

Posted by rocao in United States, 19 Nov 2011 05:20

@asherkobin: if possible, log in to your rewards account at the TRU website for a detailed listing of your purchases and reward credit. TRU only offers partial credit if you buy specials (i.e. BOGO 50% LEGO doesn't give you full dollar amount). It's just part of a long list of misleading shadiness that is TRU rewards.

Posted by starfire2 in United States, 19 Nov 2011 08:32

^More like TRU shadiness period!! Read my earlier post about the vulture droid polybag . What Lego Star Wars "construction" set do they have for $1.79 ?

HOLIDAY2011 code $15 OFF SELECT Toys"R"Us purchases of $100 or more

Posted by Brendan in United States, 19 Nov 2011 17:18

I got the Toys R Us truck for 50% off!!!Great buy.

Posted by mkoesel in United States, 19 Nov 2011 19:52

The Star wars sale at my store turned out to be 33% off instead of 25% off. So with the "WOW" coupon, the battle packs were only 8 bucks each - nice!
