Advent day 2

  • Advent day 2

Posted by Huw, 02 Dec 2011 15:10. Filed under Advent countdown.

As promised, a bit later today. I hope you've all opened yours!

Day 2The Star Wars calendar today features its first minifigure, Nute Gunray, the Neimoidian, first seen in The Phantom Menace. He's such a popular, pleasant chap, isn't he, and perhaps a strange choice for inclusion in the calendar. Perhaps there was a stash of his hat somewhere in the warehouse :-)

In proper (as opposed to Chinese) plastic, he was quite rare until today, having appeared in only one set, 8036, Separatist Shuttle, in 2009.

Day 2In the City calendar we have a toilet-roll slinger, which explains why the crook was holding one yesterday!

"Phantopm Menace" I think someone 'p'eed in the advent calender again ;)

Posted by omnius in United Kingdom, 02 Dec 2011 15:23

I wondered what the white round 1x1s were supposed to be, as Lego usually use 1x1 round plates for this bit! Maybe he's planning to toilet-paper the Police log cabin?

Lovely clear pic of Nute Gunray - you really need to crack on with that Star Wars minifig gallery, Huw.

I really want the SW calendar. Still, I have the CITY one and I think it's great! Those white pieces are snow, I think.

^Yes, you should, Huw.

So far my son isn't terribly excited by his Star Wars calendar. Since he already has the Separatist Shuttle (one of the ten sets he has not counting polybags and Battle Packs), the first minifig was less than exciting to him. Luckily the calendar seems to get better as it goes on.

One thing I noticed is the scale of the mini-models, the scale is all over the place. The builds are interesting, but the mis-matched scale makes the play value limited.

I haven't got a Nute Gunray figure before, so this was quite nice.
I hope the later time is better for those who open their calendars in the evening. Lets see if we can make it all the way to 24! :P

Aw, spoiler alert! I haven't gotten round to getting the calendars down from my attic yet... ;)

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 02 Dec 2011 16:03

@DrD, when I have more time, I will do :-)

@LukeSkywalker You can hide these "spoiler" threads here: http://brickset.com/news/preferences/

Hey thanks @LegoCity578, and thanks @Huw, I see the "Advent countdown" news topic there, that's a really neat idea to have it optional! (I didn't see yesterday's update, facepalm...) :)

ROFL, toilet rolls again! XD

Posted by icey in Denmark, 02 Dec 2011 16:24

Haha... toilet-roll slinger :-)

Posted by CaptainJonnyBoy in United States, 02 Dec 2011 16:26

Well, that's how you "T-P" a building/tree if you can't throw far/high enough. Or maybe... The robber is planning to catapult a roll or two over the jail fence, then use the tp as a rope to climb over the wall and make his escape! :)

Oh yeah, Nute Gunray is pretty cool to have, but there's not much you can do with him other than make him the butt of jokes in a Legomation. :D

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 02 Dec 2011 16:28

Not bad, I quite like these two calendars so far this year. We are bound to get a couple of dud gifts, and I think Nute Gunray is one of them if you already have him!

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 02 Dec 2011 16:31

So... when/if the Advent Calender comes in the mail tonight... I'll get a toilet roll slinger and a crook with a toilet roll? :P

Posted by Nerd in United States, 02 Dec 2011 17:18

Why isn't Lego using white 1x1 round plates for the snowballs, as they typically do? Extra inventory?

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 02 Dec 2011 17:20

@padinc: Probably... but it's still a strange choice. :P

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 02 Dec 2011 17:27

@TooMuchLEGO: Uh... yes, you will. :P Hey, at least all your minifigs will have some toilet paper to go with a loo! :P

Posted by Jay Kenobi ZX in United States, 02 Dec 2011 17:38

I want a toilet paper flinger.....

Posted by Polynices in United States, 02 Dec 2011 17:59

Not that long age the Nute Gunray keychain was marked down to 99 cents so I gather he's not the most popular minifig. Maybe they did have a glut of them.

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 02 Dec 2011 18:08

So... LEGO uses the "left-over" pieces in their Advent Calendars?

Posted by legoDad42 in United States, 02 Dec 2011 18:23

Never realized Nute was a kinda rare fig. Weird choice though to put in the calendar as a 'villain'...I guess.
He's in that Jar-Jar vein of characters.

Another fantastic photo Huw! Crisp, clear...large!

Posted by Farmer_John in United States, 02 Dec 2011 18:53

Huw - I LIKE this... My kids are opening this each evening and splitting up the contents. It gives me an idea of what I will have to contend with every night. Thanks for the heads up!!!!

I finally got the Advent Calender in the mail! My younger sister enjoys it as much as I do... probably even more. I asked her what she thinks we'll get tomorrow... she said, "Well um, maybe the rest of the robbers and the policemens and everything." I don't quite think she gets the Advent Calender purpose. :)

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 02 Dec 2011 18:57

@TooMuchLEGO: Younger sister? Does she have a LEGO.com account? :P

Posted by EdwinJackson in Norway, 02 Dec 2011 21:12

LOL, a toilet-roll slinger. I thought it was a snow ball thrower.

Posted by 18000pieces in United States, 02 Dec 2011 21:25

So far as I can tell, the SW calendar is going to go in chronological order, starting with the very first ship we see in episode I (the Federation Frigate) and moving on to one of the first characters we see. That's why Gunray's in it, and in it so early.

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 02 Dec 2011 22:43

Ha Ha! Well at least Lego still has it's sense of humor! XD Never would have thought of a toilet roll catapult for Christmas. Seems more like a Halloween set then anything else :)

Posted by The Reviewer in United States, 03 Dec 2011 01:16

I don't have the sepratist shuttle so the nute gunnray is a great find. He actualy is a rare figure since he is in only one other set.

Posted by matt71young in United Kingdom, 03 Dec 2011 07:48

I am wondering is there anyway this can not be on the main notice board. I am away for work during the week and open them when I can. The surprise of what is behind each door is being ruined by this feature. Or at least have the item hidden unless you click on it. if this can be done that would be great. And if this is not the place for this request can someone tell me where to send it.

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 03 Dec 2011 10:24

matt71young: Huw has done all he can to solve this. Go under the Recently Added to Database and click on Change News Preferences, you can opt them out there. IF you don't want to do that Huw is doing the reviews later in the evening. If that doesn't help then I just suggest waiting to go on Brickset until after you've opened your Advent Calender. Hope this helps! :)
