Advent day 3

  • Advent day 3

Day 3As if proof were needed that the shifty guy on day one was up to no good, today we have a policeman complete with handcuffs in the City calendar. Thankfully he has a hat so any toilet rolls that come his way won't knock him out.

Day 3Day 2 and 3The Star Wars calendar features the second mini-model which I have to confess I didn't recognise and had to look up at Wookiepedia. Apparently it's a mechno-chair, used by wealthy Neimoidians such as Nute Gunray, which I suppose makes sense given we had him yesterday.

So here he is, on his chair...

So... the policeman would have to arrest the bad guy because he stole toilet rolls and launched them? :P Well, it's always theft and assault... :P BTW, it's "mechno-chair", not "mechano-chair". :P

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 03 Dec 2011 15:02

Right, yes, nothing to do with mechano then :-)

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 03 Dec 2011 15:05

@Huw: I am a spelling freak, am I? :P

Interesting inclusion in the Star Wars advent calendar, the mechno-chair, something a bit different to add to the line up but I really like the mini models so I can't wait for some more of those! Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

I was pretty happy to see that policeman this morning upon opening it, because this was my first LEGO Policeman*, no joke.

Anyway, I showed my grandmother the models from the City Advent so far, and she thought the catapult was cool.

(*unless you count this guy, but I considered him a security guard. http://www.brickset.com/minifigs/?m=cop002)

Thanks for explaining what today's SW offering was Huw, I was absolutely clueless! :-)

Posted by glamdring804 in United States, 03 Dec 2011 16:10

I thought it was some sort of droid.

Posted by Firox 5000 in United Kingdom, 03 Dec 2011 16:21

The city one was good having a cop for the robber. Until the above explanation, I had no idea what the day sw one was.

Never seen a mechno-chair in LEGO. I'll have to build one myself, then.

Posted by Huw in United Kingdom, 03 Dec 2011 16:43

Actually, having looked at the article at Wookiepedia again I don't think they actually sit on them, despite the name...

Posted by Yln in Belgium, 03 Dec 2011 16:45

I believe it is a crab droid: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/LM-432_crab_droid

Posted by Caramel in Canada, 03 Dec 2011 16:51

Despite it's name the mechno-chair isn't actually a chair, it is actually a walking hologram prejector. So if you got the imperial star destroyer that came out in 2006 you could take the Darth Sideous hologram and put it on the mechno-chair

Posted by Thomson & Thompson in Canada, 03 Dec 2011 17:46

^^^You're right, Huw; a hologram is projected out of them.

10230 and 10223 now have their own place at shop.LEGO.com!

I'm pretty sure the "toilet paper rolls" are supposed to be snow balls, not sure if that was some sarcasm you guys had going on.

Posted by CapnRex101 in United Kingdom, 03 Dec 2011 18:36

It is actually a chair as well as a holoprojector, in Ep.1 there is a short scene when Governor Sio Bibble (this guy : http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Sio_Bibble) and Gunray are talking and it that scene you can see Gunray on his seat bobbing up and down as it walks along, here is a link to a still from the film : http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/7087/neimoidianchair6rr.jpg

I am so far enjoying opening my City one, this being the first year for me having a LEGO Advent calendar, roll on day 4

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 03 Dec 2011 18:40

@Huw: So... it's a walking hologram projector? :P And only rich people could afford it? :P Good grief... :P

Posted by TooMuchLEGO in United States, 03 Dec 2011 19:22

@Alemas: They obviously haven't heard of LEGO Mindstorms!

@Penguin: It's a running gag, sort of us making fun of the fact that they chose 1x1 cylinders and not studs. Though I tried flinging a stud, it didn't quite work as well... actually now the cylinders make sense

Posted by trickydicky0880 in United States, 03 Dec 2011 19:41

I honestly think that it's a good addition to the Nute Gunray minifig. He had to come with something in this set and the mechno-chair works. You actually see him sitting on a mechno-chair in Episode I.

As well, the new orange Brick Separator (#630) can now be purchased from shop.LEGO.com for 2.99 CAD/2.49 USD/1.99 GBP. So want it. A new entry for it has to be formed in the database.

I was pretty lost with the SW offereing today. After your explaination, I remember seeing it in the films now. I'm not more excited to have it, but I suppose it makes sense now. I was pretty stoked for the brown 'arm' pieces though!

Posted by DeltaCommando17 in Canada, 03 Dec 2011 20:46

At first I thought todays set was a Crab Droid off ep. 3

To those who have the City calendar:
Exchange the hats of the buglar and cop, and both get way cooler! ;-)

Posted by Margot in United States, 04 Dec 2011 12:16

Really glad you explained the chair, my son and I both thought it was a really bad version of some droid until I read this.

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 04 Dec 2011 12:30

A little off-topic: The eBay bar has gone! :D And there's no more tagline, just "LEGO set guide". :P

I am glad I waited to pick up the SW advent. I only paid 37.50 for it.

Posted by max7312 in United States, 04 Dec 2011 12:47

i didn't have to look on wookiepedia i first thought it was a spider droid then i figured out that it was nute gunrays chair or hollogram projecter from the phantom menace

Posted by Alemas in Germany, 04 Dec 2011 12:59

@Huw: Ah. :P Why is that?

Posted by Skywalker1966 in United States, 04 Dec 2011 13:41

You know, yesterday I though there was fairly good proof for 18000pieces theory that the advents are going in chronological order... Now, seeing the Day 4 one, I wouldn't be too sure. I won't say what it is, but it certainly doesn't seem to work out chronologically.

Posted by itsaturkey in United States, 04 Dec 2011 16:53

Pretty interesting...chair....projector...thing.... George Lucas never fails to amaze me :P

Posted by Gandalf1 in United States, 04 Dec 2011 21:01

@Huw: Um, I was logged in and it was gone.

And about the snowballs, they really shouldn't use cannon balls or studs. They should use the quaffle piece.

Gandalf: Good idea! I think Lego didn't do that because minifig hands can't connect to them :/
